What's the difference between this adapter and this adapter?
Googling says the both do the same job (convert FD mount lenses to work with the EOS system) but why the extra lens?
Edited: Photograph of new D30 which I picked up last night.

That's for being able to focus on infinity, like landscapes and stuff.
That's for being able to focus on infinity, like landscapes and stuff.
Yep.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flange_focal_distance
Basically if you have a body with a longer flange focal distance than the lens, you need an adaptor with optics in it if you want to focus to infinity (since the lens has to be closer to the imaging plane than it physically can be)
[editline]16th August 2012[/editline]
if you can, I'd suggest getting lenses in a different mount instead, since adaptors with optics don't tend to be that great
he/she looks gorgeous!
i got a Canon FD 135mm f3.5 in excellent condition from goodwill for $11 today. very excited to use it, i want to see if it's a focal length i enjoy on FF and aps-c and maybe buy a 135mm f2.
i think more companies should make easy choice prime lenses like this though, great performance and cool lengths, not that fast but significantly faster than a zoom of that length. the sony 85mm f2.8 comes to mind, it's a $200 lens and optically great. more companies should make these (maybe some 16mm, 24mm, 35mm, 90mm, and 135mm primes all at f2.8, that's a great rounded kit).

A 24 is my dream.
I love shooting wide. But my kit lens is the widest I have at 18mm (on a cropped sensor).
Only thing is, it's not quite fast enough for me. 3.5 often doesn't quite cut it, so a fixed 2.8 would be amazing.
Oh, and a wide angle. I think I'd get some really good and creative shots on a 10-20.
So Sony is working on a Nex full frame. That's incredibly cool, all legacy lenses at native focal lengths. Can't wait!

That's very awesome.
That sounds pleasant. I wonder what the physical size and cost of the thing will be.
I really want to see a full-frame in the form factor of something like the x-pro 1 or x100.
With sony I'm imagining it will be something a little bigger than a nex 7, they are pretty good at feature packing. But no concrete details yet, but it's going to be pretty huge (in impact)
In september i'll be going to Photokina because I am getting free tickets from my work. Really nice, can't wait to see and test some new stuff there like (most likely) the Panasonic GH3, Fuji X200, Leica M10, etc.
Huzzah!

My new used 450D came in today. Put it next to dad's old Minolta XG-M.
I think its time to take account of what I have camera gear wise.
I think its time to take account of what I have camera gear wise.
i did that and now i want to get rid of most of it. because if i have to take into account what i own i definitely am not using it all. sucks the lenses i don't want no one else does either and i'm practically selling at a loss :P

I think thats a decent collection for a skint student.
that's not bad. i think i'm beating you on lenses but not bodies i have a LOT of broken camera bodies though, thinking of just dumping them because they aren't worth anything and donating them to goodwill is misleading

Leave one unattended and see if anyone tries to steal it?

Just curious, you have any Canon EF lenses left? (I'm not in the financial condition to buy anything costing more than 2.73 euros but hey)
Nah I don't collect EOS, generally the lenses you find for them used are all terrible zooms like 28-80 f4-5.6 and such. That's why I do Minolta AF, you can still build a good system without breaking the bank.
Hmm... Now I want to make a list of my gear too...
edit: Brb, making list
Also, how are Bell & Howell lenses anyway?
I'm assuming they are the same as any other third party optic. Third party < Pentax/Takumar < Pentax digital lenses
Bell & Howell are cheap lenses and perform just like cheap lenses.

Bell & Howell were a distribution company, most of the lenses were sold cheaply through colleges, so that the students could add more lenses aside from 50mm lenses
And I guess I should add some mroe gear to my list (I went to the market again)
I can't understand Soviet engineering sometimes.
On my Kiev 19 I can get a "good" exposure at 200iso with
1/8th sec f/5.6
1/15th sec f11
1/30th f2.8
I'm sure something isn't right there
Well Leningrad believes it should be
1/8th f/8
1/15th f/5.6
1/30th f/4
What was that video with the custom firmware for some DSLR that had a desert in super HD and looked absolutely fantastic? Can't find it.
I don't think I've seen it, but I googled it. You might recognise it if you google for yourself, I looked for
Magic Lantern desert timelapse
Had quite a few hits, so I don't know which one you meant.
Magic Lantern is for EOS cameras, btw.
FOUND IT!

*FAP*
Because it competes with their other products. As a company specializing in video equipment, they don't want to cannibalize their own sales. Not to mention they might not know how to optimize their hardware to do it (but hackers do), and don't want to cause damage to the hardware (creates excess heat). GH2 hacking has been a blessing for Panasonic though, greatly extending the life of the body. But at the same time people won't adopt the GH3 because it lacks features to this. It's a tough spot for them.
[t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/ghettoflash.jpg[/t]
(I'm translating this from my original Dutch post on FB. That's why image says "Modus", read: "mode")
Ladies and gentlemen,
I hereby introduce you to the Ghettoflash™ 1.0. This advanced system takes the performance of the built-in flash to a new level and offers the professional photographer a variety of ways to expose their subjects in a revolutionary way.
The Ghettoflash™ 1.0 can be configured in two modes of operation: the first lets light be spread directly through the hood of the Ghettoflash™ 1.0 and so creates a source of diffusely spread light directly on your camera. The second mode, with the top opened, lets the light be spread by the environment (for example, the ceiling) and makes it possible to let your subject be lighted smoothly.
Above all, the Ghettoflash™ 1.0 is constructed from light-weight materials which ensure no additional weight is put upon the camera and the photographer. The Ghettoflash™ 1.0 can truly be taken with you, anywhere.
Unfortunately, the Ghettoflash™ 1.0 has been sold out at the moment. You can still request the brochure at your local electronics store, however.
(Special thanks to Duckie for linking me to the Instructable for a cigarette pack diffuser.)
I just got this fine piece.
