Please not that all of these are "as is" out of the camera except for white balance and are mainly taken to check the lens. 50mm(effectively 80)at f1.8: IMG_7585.jpg von Terranigmus auf Flickr IMG_7592.jpg von Terranigmus auf Flickr IMG_7594.jpg von Terranigmus auf Flickr 135mm(effectivey 216)at f2/8 IMG_7608.jpg von Terranigmus auf Flickr Same frame: IMG_7609.jpg von Terranigmus auf Flickr Obviously the lenses need a good cleaning and I suck at fucosing(depite the focus dot telling me I was in focus) but nevertheless I'm looking forward! [editline]23rd August 2012[/editline] ALso since I see Bopie lurking, doesn't the horse pic have kind of a Bopie-esque look to it?
I'm going to get a Kiev 60 as I got some results I want and I want an unusual (and fairly cheap) camera for my step into Medium Format, that and I like the unusual-ness of Soviet/Ukrainian cameras
Hey, so I just registered for a Black and White photography class for college and we get to process the film and all that good shit. I need to buy a camera for the class and the professor told me to get "a 35mm single lens reflex film". So I look up on amazon and I found http://www.amazon.com/Canon-AE-1-Manual-Focus-Camera/dp/B001NPCCH0/ref=sr_1_1?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1345743476&sr=1-1 I wanna know if it's a good camera for starters and if you suggest anything else?
The ae-1 is a great camera. Not canon's best but very usable and the least likely to run into problems out of their cameras. And the FD lens system is cheaper than nikons.
The ae-1 is a great camera. Not canon's best but very usable and the least likely to run into problems out of their cameras. And the FD lens system is cheaper than nikons.
i use the ae-1 program, and i love that camera. however, i really would like to see how the f-1 operates opposed to the ae-1.
F-1 is great, but all manual. Has a needle meter as opposed to LED. Built like a damn tank. It's much better to get the newer version because of easy battery compatibility though. I would very much love one with a power wonder FN I got an A-1 but they are so much more prone to problems. There is this error called EEEE EE which makes the automated modes unusable, and it's totally just a camera bug that is easy to fix, or a soldering error that is expensive to fix. Without having a battery on hand you won't know if it's got the problem, and it seems to be a rather common one. Disappointing because otherwise the camera has a lot of features the AE-1 lacks (real aperture priority modes, shutter speed and aperture in finder, half stop info, double exposure dial, and up to 30 second preset exposures)
If you want something inbetween the F-1 and the AE-1, you should look up the canon EF. The buildquality is almost as good as the F-1, and it's also halfautomatic like the AE-1 but it also has built in long exposure modus up to 30 seconds, a feature you don't see that often on such old camera's. The nice thing about this camera also is that it has a built-in voltage regulator, so you can just use regular 1.5v PX625 batteries (the camera needs 2 PX625 batteries). The EF is somewhat uncommon but people don't really know it's quite scarce so you can still pick it up for relatively los prices. Having one myself, I wanted to mention it.
-----Camera Body----- Canon EOS 60D - £729 without lens (Jessops) SanDisk Extreme 16GB Class 10 45mb/s - £10 (Amazon) -------Lenses---- Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 - £639.00 (Jessops) Canon EF 50mm f1.8 MK2 - £80.99 (Amazon) --------------------------
This is my recommendation. You don't need such a high speed card (Especially at THAT price!) so here's a card that matches the max transfer rate (I think it's 45 mb/s) Jessops also overprice their 50 mark II's, so go to Amazon for that unless they have it in stock to take home the same day. The grip is only necessary if you find it more comfortable or are going to be doing lots of portraits. My friend bought a grip and regretted it because his 7D was too heavy and now it sits in his bag all the time. But it's up to you. The 70-200 is nice but overly specialized. Great for trips to the zoo or some locations, but I find a wide angle and standard infinitely more useful. If 6-12 months down the line you really need one, then give it a try. Theres also no point buying a 50mm macro (imo) as you'd want a longer prime for better working distance. See how you get on with the standard first before buying a dedicated macro lens. Invest in some cheap extension rings for macro work. Even with the wide angle, thats £300 less, so you can still buy a grip later. But I'd use the money on days out to actually take pictures.
I got my Bronica EC-TL II today and holy shit, this thing is massive. It's also one hell of a sexy camera and I can't wait to shoot with it. Exciting stuff! [editline]24th August 2012[/editline] Also, are these medium format lenses good wide-open? Ofcourse not every lens is the same but generally speaking? I have a Zenzanon 75mm f2.8 and 150mm f3.5 I just want to know if I can safely use these lenses wide-open without them being very soft
I've been wanting to buy a medium format SLR, but I'm not sure what to go for. The Mamiya's are expensive-ish, the Hasselblad's are wallet-cringingly expensive, but from what I'm hearing the Kiev's aren't very reliable, but people have gotten lucky in terms of quality control. So I'm not sure what to do. Could I get some help fellow photographers?
If you do go medium format, don't take the Kiev route unless you know that Soviet cameras are well made but have some serious quirks to them, although if you do decide to go for a Kiev, I am going down the Kiev 60 route (as theres less to go wrong(in theory))
Alright, I was looking for that specific waist-level viewfinder SLR, I like the look of the Kiev 60, but yeah. I had a look at the Bronica EC-TL that DoubleD said he got, that thing looks so beautifuls.
Well I should be able to get a Kiev 60 by the end of next week (if someone doesn't buy it before me(which I doubt they will)). I'll tell you what I think of it when I get it.
a friend just gave me 2x canon eos 600 body 1x canon eos 100 body 1x canon 35-135mm 5.6 lens that says ultrasonic on 2x canon 24mm 2.8 1x canon 50mm 2.5 x1 sigma 28-200mm 5.6 did i do good? is any of this worth anything?
gib.
The macro is decent money, as are the 24mm's
I don't know what the requirements are for AS level photography, but you could pick up a second hand 500 or 550D with a kit lens for around that price.
Visited my Grandparents and they gave me a bunch of stuff. All of this stuff is made in GDR, the camera is from 1970something and unfortunately the mirror is oxidized but makes for pretty cool "old" looking pictures.
I got a quick question, Just recently I got hold of a Sigma 24-135 F3.5-4.5 Lens for my Rebel XS, I'm looking to upgrade body's soon, and I don't really use the lens that much. Realistically, how much could I sell this lens for?
Just check eBay and try and get what other people are getting. Good pictures and descriptions help a lot
The only one I see on Ebay is for Minoltas, and hes asking $249.95 for it, with no bids at all. I was thinking $180, $200 at the most.
Shit, yeah. It is the 2.8-4.5. I thought it was the 3.5 for some reason D:
For my 18th birthday I've been thinking of purchasing a SpeedLite 430EX II for my Canon 550D. I'm not very familiar with mount-on flashes, but I've done a few shots in a studio using the lights there. But regardless; would that be a good flash to begin with? It's a bit pricey, but according to reviews it has a nice bang for the buck
Thinking between the 40D and 60D, would the 8mp difference be even worth thinking about? It might be worth just getting a 550D.
8 megapixels is a significant difference. But there are more significant differences between the 40D and 60D, and both are quite different from the 550D.
From what I understand, the 550D is identical sensor wise to the 60D, build quality, shutter speed, flip display, battery life, viewfinder and burst are better on the 60D though. The looks to be a 60D in terms of almost everything with an older processor/sensor and no video mode with better build quality, the performance on everything else would be lower though, being a very novice photographer, do you think the benefits of the 60Ds megapixels/slightly better sensor performance be even worth thinking about?
Very novice as in, just starting out? Because in that case I would just go for the 550D and see how it fares. The 60D is indeed better but costs quite a bit. If you go for the 60D, you'll have to make sure it's a good investment. And don't forget, getting the 550D will save you money for buying a nice lens. That will get you better results than a 60D with kit lens.
Not just starting out, I've been hopping cameras for a while now and still can't find one I like, I have a 550D now which I got on eBay but it's a little more worn-in than the description had led me to believe and he's giving me a refund. It's the build quality and weather sealing that is leading me in the direction of the 60D, similar to that of my OM-D, I don't actually think I can go by without video mode so I probably would have to rule out the 40D.

Or even trust that your camera won't get fucked up by rain despite weather proofing (even though Canon DSLRs are fucking bulletproof, DigitalRev already showed how tough a 7D is. Not sure about Nikon but I wouldn't doubt them to be the same sort of durability.) Point is, if you have the money to get a 60D and a good lens, and won't regret spending more for almost no gain over a 550D then go for it, if not then get the 550D or 600D if you want 1080p video and better audio controls and a good prime lens.

Cheers.
