Hasselblad's new mirrorless camera, same specifications as the NEX-7 (24mp APS-C sensor, Sony E-Mount) for $6,500, it's so ridiculously over-priced and ugly, put slap a Hasselblad or Leica logo on anything, put it at a shocking price and let those who have more money than sense at it. I understand that Leicas and hasselblads go way back and they've made some of the best cameras, a hasselblad was used on the moon, but this is just terrible.
oh i just posted this in the general section i'm late D: funniest announcement ever. i thought it would be all cool like a mirrorless medium format with CDAF so that way it was lighter, but with precision focusing but nope it's this camera for yacht owners
The Nikon 50 1.8 is a very well made lens compared to the canon version, but you kinda expect that when it's over twice the price.
http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-50mm-Nikkor-Digital-Cameras/dp/B00005LEN4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1347982242&sr=8-2&keywords=nikon+50+1.8 $124.99 vs http://www.amazon.com/Canon-50mm-1-8-Camera-Lens/dp/B00007E7JU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347982280&sr=8-1&keywords=cannon+50+1.8 $104.99 I bought my 50mm three years ago for $99. I think you're comparing the G version of the Nikon 50mm. I'm talking about the bog standard 50mm AF-D Nikon.

This is the AF one I believe: http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-50mm-NIKKOR-Digital-Cameras/dp/B004Y1AYAC/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1347983737&sr=1-1&keywords=nikon+50
The D is just screw drive, which is supported on some of the models, typically the higher end (d90, d7000, and models like that). So it's more of a fair comparison to compare the G version with the canon one. Build of the D still beats the canon however.
So we got a new shipment this afternoon: [T]https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/218587_440047059369718_1097881273_o.jpg[/T]
gib.

If this post were one year ago, my comparison would be accurate. Besides both lenses are the exact same build sans AF motor for the D lens. Nikon's being cheap bastards with the G lens. It's also ridiculous how they simply double the price for a lens with built in AF. The lens doesn't cost nearly $100 more dollars for the inclusion of the AF motor. They tacked on the premium because they know that people without higher end bodies will basically be forced to pay the $220 regardless.
Well that's not totally fair, the non screw drive motor has to be faster, more efficient, and quieter. Linear motors have those benefits, and the manual focus gear is decoupled providing fly by wire focusing. Nikon's G is similarly priced to Sony's 50mm 1.8, which has an inferior build and covers only APS-C. I believe the nex 50mm is the most expensive of all 50mm 1.8's, because of direct manual focus, modern optics, and of course OSS
You're right. I read up a bit on it after posting, and it's unfair to say that both lenses are the same. It looks like they changed up quite a bit of the lens. The G lens actually has extra glass inside.
The G 50mm primes (1.4 and 1.8) are also sealed, another reason they're more pricey.

Mitt Romney
Someone made their own hasselblad mirrorless, it's glorious. http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2012/09/product-announcement-lensrentals-looney

Selling my Pentax MX if y'all are interested, runs great just I have better now. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/200821703141?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#ht_500wt_1378
Olympus just emailed me to let me know my OM-D is on the way, so I'm super excited. Should be here in a week or so, so now I only need to talk to my rep about getting the 45mm at a nice price too. Until then, the Pana 20mm will suffice, but I really am craving a tighter frame.

Interested in that camera's ISO performance.
i'm finally about to order a 50mm 1.8 for my 550d. should I get a UV filter as well? it's about five extra dollars.
If you're worried about dropping your lens, sure, but all modern lenses have a UV coating so there's no reason to get one other than protecting the front element. [editline]asdf[/editline] Why is this dumb? Lenses are almost always multicoated, and UV filters can save your ass if you drop your lens.
UV Filters are a gimmick. Chucking money on such a cheap lens doesn't seem right. When you get lens that costs more, then consider in some UV filters to protect it.
Getting super cheap filters may protect your lens, but the lowered contrast and glare from cheap filters may effect the shot.
I use a lens cap to protect my lens

I had to let mine go though as I couldn't afford the lenses that I wanted for it unfortunately, consider the grip if you haven't, only gives it ever so slightly more bulk but makes it much easier to hold and use.
when I think I have too many cameras, I look at this thread, and can't decide to feel good about myself or really bad about myself.
Thing is, I had my cap on when I smacked my lens on a rock; it got forced off and my filter still got pierced
Now imagine without cap, the filter AND the lens could've been pierced.
Well here in the Netherlands, you don't have the risk of smashing your lens on a rock. Bought my Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 without a UV filter because I plan on getting an all-in-one set with a circular polarizer and a ND filter.
I'm looking to purchase a new lens and the two I am trying to choose between are the 55-200mm Nikon and the 55-300mm Nikon lens. http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-55-200mm-4-5-6G-Vibration-Reduction/dp/B000O161X0/ref=sr_1_1?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1348158530&sr=1-1 http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-55-300mm-4-5-5-6G-Nikkor-Digital/dp/B003ZSHNCC/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1348162852&sr=1-1&keywords=nikon+55-300mm+vr Does anyone have an opinion on either one or anything?
I can't attest to the differences in optical quality between the lenses, but I'd save the money and get the 55-200. I bought a Sigma 70-300 and barely use it. These focal lengths are pretty specific and don't really lend themselves much use. Are you going to be doing much wildlife photography? If you're buying these lenses because you think it'd be cool to have a telephoto, I'd pick the 55-200. Save some cash.
