I almost broke my EF 100-400mm F/4.5-5.6L IS USM the day after my insurance ran out. I'd have strangled myself if I did. I was climbing up a 75-degree slope to get to an injured golden eagle (I posted it in Creative photography some time ago) when one of my anchors loosened and swung me around. Pretty much my entire bodyweight was pushed against my backpack and then some as it got wedged between me and the rocks. The one thing that would've been damaged (but wasn't - thank god for Canon quality) would've been the 100-400. The day after the insurance ran out.
Guys I have a question. I'm looking for a lens for RC related photo's. The target will be far fairly far away beyond the optimal use of my 24-85 Here's a pic of me at the canopy shooting people at the flight line. [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1031910/Canon%20T3i/IMG_1595.JPG[/t] ~85mm zoom~ Some people might think meh thats good but I'm not doing pics of heli at the flight line I'm doing planes flying around... http://shop.usa.canon.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/subCategorySort_10051_10051_-1_29754_lowPrice_list Thinking out loud here I will be getting a better low-end zoom and IS. Any helpful advise?
My friend just got the 75-300 last night. She said she loves it and it's great for the price. I haven't used it though...

Unless you bring a tripod or put your camera down somewhere, don't expect to use it anywhere else than outdoors on a bright, sunny day. It gets better when you step up to this lens which means a step-up in price, but it has IS and good enough image quality. Much more useful for hand-holding.
Isn't that a nice little T-REX 600N we got here?
I am unsure if that's what it is your guess is better than mine. Let helis act like planes and planes act like helis.
So I have been wanting a medium format camera for a while now, and last week I could get one for a nice price. Mamiya RB67 Professional SD set by Leevmeister, on Flickr The thing I like about this camera is that it's fully mechanical, and does not rely on a battery like it's more "modern" brother, the RZ67. This RB67 is the most recent version(built from 1990 and up). Build quality is very good, and you also can feel that in the weight of this beast. Handheld shooting is not so hard as I thought it would be, but the mirrored view was very disorienting at first. Also had to get a external light meter because it simply does not have one, so i got a Sekonic L-608 which I also could get for a good price. This meter also features a spotmeter, which I can use for multi-spotmetering. A picture from the internets to get a idea how it looks:
Got a Mamiya 67
That's awesome, what did you pay for it? I've always wanted my own medium format camera. You got some good lenses there, too.
For the RB67 I paid about 500 euro for the whole set, and also with a Polaroid back which is not on the picture. It takes Fuji FP100C film which is really nice. The lightmeter was 200 euros, which is a steal compared what it would cost new (about triple that price). The lenses I have are the 65mm and the 127mm (the third lens on the picture is a 140mm macro, but I bought that one for a friend of mine) The person I bought the camera from also had 2 other Mamiya RB67 PRO S Bodies, which also were quite cheap. When I get some more money i'm going to buy some lenses off KEH.com, they actually have a lot of RB67 lenses up there for a good price. But shipping from the USA to The Netherlands is quite expensive unfortunately. I really want the 50mm, and maybe some newer K/L lenses if possible.
Wow you REALLY wanted that cam, right?
guys, need some advice! im giving myself a budget of £1000 to really upgrade on my sub-standard kit that i have at the moment, what should i get oh wizards of kit?

What's wrong with your current kit
ayee, well i was looking to go FF because im hoping to start a degree course in photography so i'll want something with a lot more capabilities. personal opinion on the kit lens and the extremely poor low light capabilities amongst other things

If you stick with m4/3, look into an OM-D. Very capable camera that will take your current lenses, has in-body IS and excels in low light. Price of a body is around your budget point however, so if you don't already own at least one nice lens, that might be an issue. [editline]7th October 2012[/editline] Actually, after a little googling, it seems that an original 5D might be quite viable at that price. Have a look around on some second hand listings because you might be able to pick one up with a lens.

It's an old camera and the tech on it means noise performance is probably on par with the om-d. Completely serious here. I also wouldn't recommend older canon bodies because their dynamic range is limited. But full frame doesn't instantly mean more capabilities, just more in terms of shallow DoF. Be sure to check DxO mark when comparing cameras, their numbers are good for comparing tech in terms of absolute image quality

How does the EF-S 15-85mm stack up against the EF 24-105mm? Aside from the focal length, does the 24-105 justify it's higher price? (Especially on a crop-sensor body)

Ive got probably the most bottom of the bottom end mirrorless system camers with dslr capabilities and if i budget myself right i can afford new kit and a trip to venice with my girlfriend :)
we were going to go to new york but its too expensive:( i cant wait to go!
My grandfather gave me this today, he said it belongs to my (deceased) great-grandfather and he used it alot in the 1940's. Does anyone know how to open/use this? [t]http://i.imgur.com/VvrZv.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/fZjL6.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/swmSX.jpg[/t]
i love rape-face woody.
too bad he's so damn expensive I'd seriously put him with my collection if I had mini cameras for him to hold
It's possible, due to downsampling an image. But could be a coincidence as well.

I'm thinking about getting an Olympus OM-D EM5, is it a worthwhile investment? I won't be buying it until next august probably
I'm thinking about getting an Olympus OM-D EM5, is it a worthwhile investment? I won't be buying it until next august probably
I believe they are. Great ergonomics, weather sealing, very strong viewfinder, the super 5 axis stabilization which now works with video on legacy glass, and a very good sensor that beats even canon's 18mp aps-c sensor they are still using by a decent margin. And I know if you buy one now (which doesn't seem like you can but still worth mentioning) you get the highly acclaimed 45mm 1.8 lens free
Yeah, I've been looking at a lot of reviews and spec's and they seem like great builds! And it is possibly one of the best looking modern camera's in my opinion! I've not seen that offer anywhere before? Aye, can't really afford at the moment with the casual £60 to my name!
