This has probably been asked before (yes I have searched) but....... are Lomography cameras any good? are they good for beginners? thanks
Pick up a Canon AE-1, buy some film, and have a blast.
I'd actually recommend a Praktica SLR, a lot of them are fully mechanical cameras, minus a battery operated metering system. You could just use a light meter, and not worry about having to purchase a battery. On top of that, a lot of them use M42 mount lenses, which are extremely cheap lenses these days. They're also pretty damn sturdy cameras, and should last you quite awhile if you treat them right.
Just bought a 50mm 1.8. Love it so far, only bad thing is the focus ring.
Just bought a 50mm 1.8. Love it so far, only bad thing is the focus ring.
I've come to terms that every autofocus lens that doesn't have focus by wire is terrible for manual focusing. The focus travel is made short so that the gears can move or quickly for fast autofocus, the design is just compromising. As someone who almost exclusively manual focused for 2 years, I can't do it on my a77, despite large EVF, zooming, and peaking. Lenses just aren't up to snuff for the purpose

Same here, it's very odd at first but thankfully the a77 is very quick and accurate. But with autofocus type lenses, it really is a lot easier to just autofocus. For serious manual pulling on video adapted lenses seem to do the trick better from dampening
Bought my third minolta 7000 because of the lens God I hate these cameras
Can any of you guys help me with chosing a prosumer DSLR for video, like documentaries and such. Budget is £700 max. I was thinking of getting a 7D body. How is the 60d? Preferably cheap as chips ( 2nd hand ) and does anyone think I will be able to get a 2nd hand 5d mk ii for that?
For a no frills camera with video in mind, give consideration to the Sony a57 or Sony a65. They have a different compression of video which gives them huge amounts of video per card, I can get over 5 hours on my 32GB card. They also have autofocus during video as well, so you don't have to worry about pulling focus, the system works extremely well. Overall I feel that they are cameras with easier video functionality than the canon's allowing for more time spent shooting than setting up shots.
So i'm using this Sekonic L-558R, and it has this port where I can plug my flash sync cable in. Problem is when i'm using it the lightmeter doesn't trigger the radio trigger, but when i plug it into my flash's sync port it fires. Anyone have any idea why this happens?
Just picked up my new 600D! Hell yeah!
What are your takes on buying FD lenses for my Canon 7D? I can get an adapter and they're super cheap. Any cons for such things besides the possible lack of autofocus? I also understand there are certain incompatibilities with some lenses. Anything else I should know about or should look out for?

Anything else I should know about or should look out for?
Canon FD lenses on the EOS isn't going to work because of the different register distance, which requires the adapter to have glass. Those glass adapter totally ruin your image quality because of the cheap ass glass they use in it(even more so on high resolution camera's like the 7D), so not worth the money you have to pay for them. On top of that, those adapters work like a teleconverter, taking away light sensitivity of the lens. The lenses may seem to be cheap, but the only things they can be mounted on cheaply and without losing image quality are the mirrorless camera's. Though it IS possible to adapt some nice lenses like the FD 55mm f/1.2 (SSC) or FL 55mm 1.2 on the EOS. But it requires you to get a adapter from this guy: http://www.ebay.com/sch/ed_mika/m.html He also sells conversion kits for most newFD prime lenses. But as you can see, the adapters are quite expensive, taking away the point of the lenses being cheap (unless you already have them). So, long story short: FD lenses on EOS is not worth the hassle.

Except it's hard to find and goes for a couple thousand usually.
If you have a good investment in FD lenses, look for a nex 5N, the go for about $400 new currently. But I would only advise that if you have very good lenses (like 24mm f2, 50 1.2, 85 1.2, or 200 2.8 to name a few) otherwise the body investment isn't really worth it. I have a canon 55mm 1.2 I use on my nex frequently, and I have gotten many of my best shots from it, but most of the time adapted glass won't beat modern optics except for if you enjoy the specific look of that lens. For me the 55mm is one of those lenses, but aside from that I have like 10 more FD lenses, they don't see much use as they aren't anything super special, just fun to play with for a while.

Note to that only these lenses in this list would work with that one. Canon also made a FD to EOS Macro converter. No glass in that one, but as the name already gives away, it's only usable for macrowork because with it, you cannot focus to infinity.
Anyone got a spare cf card I can buy?
Can anyone recommend a decently priced nifty fifty for a 7d
Can anyone recommend a decently priced nifty fifty for a 7d
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 MkII They're like, $100.
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 MkII They're like, $100.
Yeah, was looking at that on Amazon earlier, thanks. Do you know if the EF 75 - 300 f/4.0 - 5.6 is any good aswell, don't worry, i know It will be a ***** in low light so
Yeah, was looking at that on Amazon earlier, thanks. Do you know if the is any good aswell; I can't afford L lenses.
They probably have the best price to performance ratio of any modern lens. Unless you're talking about some other lens and just left out a word.
They probably have the best price to performance ratio of any modern lens. Unless you're talking about some other lens and just left out a word.
Yeah just did Damn you phone
Yeah just did Damn you phone
This one? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004THD0?tag=thedigitalpic-20 Because according to most reviews, it isn't.
The image stabilized one I believe is better, but for the price should be expected. For the price I'm sure that canon zoom is nice
The 75-300 f/4-5.6 is a ok lens. Lots of CA though, and no IS. The 55-250 IS would be a better choice imho. Prices aren't too different on these two, and the 55-250 just performs better than the 75-300.
Guess who just got a Canon 75-300 f/4-5.6 II for $40
I got mine for free lol
Guess who just got a Canon 75-300 f/4-5.6 II for $40
u???
I was looking into buying a dslr, I take a video production class in school and I wanted to buy a dslr. I've narrowed down my choices to the T3i and the d5100 but I was wondering what this forums opinion is. If i went canon I could use my teachers kit lens that came off of a 5d. I shot with his 60d which is really nice, but im looking for a camera that will last me for the end of the school year for video and when i graduate I want something that ill be able to take photos with. so I guess my question is t3i or d5100? I have a small budget but im also open to other options
T3i is better at video Also take a look at the Sony a57, it's gotten pretty great reviews for DSLR's of its class, however it has an electronic viewfinder. The advantage is the size is much larger, making for a nice big view in the viewfinder compared to the t3i or d5100 Thinking I'm going to buy a Sony 16-50 2.8 this weekend! Someone is selling one for $550 new on Craigslist, I'm getting $250 for a photo and video gig, and just sold my 28-135mm for $200. So $100 for a lens like that is pretty sweet. Hopefully my $500 of eBay stuff also sells too making it even easier!
