I just picked up a Canon 50m f/1.4 brand new for around $150, I absolutely love it. Definitely one of my new favorites.
I was looking into buying a dslr, I take a video production class in school and I wanted to buy a dslr. I've narrowed down my choices to the T3i and the d5100 but I was wondering what this forums opinion is. If i went canon I could use my teachers kit lens that came off of a 5d. I shot with his 60d which is really nice, but im looking for a camera that will last me for the end of the school year for video and when i graduate I want something that ill be able to take photos with. so I guess my question is t3i or d5100? I have a small budget but im also open to other options
What's your budget.
What's your budget.
around $800 max

Managed to pick up a Hero 3 Black Edition today, only one in weeks
Managed to pick up a Hero 3 Black Edition today, only one in weeks
We won't even have them in stock for another week or 2 :( I'd love a GoPro for some reason, but I feel I wouldn't use it enough to justify buying.
I'd love a GoPro for some reason, but I feel I wouldn't use it enough to justify buying.
ditto. except it did buy it and bought the most expensive one. I'm sure ill use it often with my friends for whatever physical activities they do [editline]1[/editline] I just poured water into another glass at 120 frames and brought it down to 24 so satisfying
ive been considering buying a t3i for a while now because it's cheap and has great reviews for its video and still photo performance, but ive recently decided it may be worth investing in a more high-end camera. id like to stick with canon, id love to not break $1,500, but ill consider anything. was looking at the 5D mII as the more expensive option, but ive also looked at the 60d. really dont know where to go from here. im trying to think long-term, cause ill need whatever i go with for video, primarily, and i dont want to spend a lot on something that does half the job a slightly more expensive slr can do. any help would be appreciated. no matter what, i'd be moving up from an XS. that's a whole lotta moving up, so im excited regardless

600d isn't doing great in night photography, actually it's not good at all.
550D/600D, 60D and 7D all share the same sensor and they all aren't that good in low light. If you want a camera that performs really well in low light you should go for a 5D Mark II. And on top of that it's video performmance is very good as well. Only good reason to still buy a 7D is the way better AF system than the 5DII.
600d isn't doing great in night photography, actually it's not good at all.
The 600D is a perfectly good camera - it's just if you have the budget, theres no reason not to get the 5DII if you really want a serious upgrade.
Can anyone explain why this lens exists? http://www.adorama.com/CA24704U.html?utm_term=Search&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=Search&utm_source=rflaid64498 It is IS, but it's f4. Therefore it's the same as the 24-105 but with less range and $400 more at the very least. Canon is going insane
It's an L series.
So is the 24-105. Which is less money ($400 less LIST), and greater zoom range. It's competing lens from Nikon is the 24-85 3.5-4.5 at a price of $900 less, I doubt the canon is $900 better of a lens. They are just completely wacko on pricing lately, the 24 and 28 2.8 primes at $850, the 24-70 at $2300. Just absolutely ridiculous prices.
I bet this guy would buy it. Just because he can.
Guys, looking for a something wider angle than a nifty fifty. I've been looking at both a Sigma 30 1.4 and 28 1.4. Anyone have any experience with either? The 28 is more expensive usually but there's a deal on a seller through Amazon right now that puts it in at slightly cheaper. Still, I'm more focused on the actual quality of the glass rather than the 2mm the 28 provides. Anyone know which of these is better? [editline]20th November 2012[/editline] Or alternatively a suitable replacement? [editline]20th November 2012[/editline] Sorry the 28 is a 1.8. I hadn't realized that, so the 28 probably isn't worth it, right? Unless there's some sort of problem with the quality, the extra stop is worth it over the extra 2mm in width right?
Why would anyone buy a camera mainly because of the AF system?
Hardcore sports enthusiast?
Why was I rated disagree? I'm a proud 600d owner, but when I go night shooting, anything above 800ISO is a noise party, not to talk about video. [editline]20th November 2012[/editline] Although I have yet to try anything below 3.5Fs

If you want a fast wide angle I would go for a wide 2.8. Maybe http://www.digitalrev.com/product/sigma-19mm-f2-8-ex/MTAwMDI0OQ_A_A would be sufficient. Woops, well that's not for Canon or Nikon mount so you probably can't get one of those, never mind.
I'm thinking of getting a gopro, but I might end up getting the older first one. Are the newer ones a lot better?

But really, I only rated disagree because you said 'it's not a great camera at all', or at least that's how it came out. As another proud 600d owner, I had to disagree on that point (If thats what you were making)
I'm thinking of getting a gopro, but I might end up getting the older first one. Bought myself an Olympus OM-10 with a motor-drive, an Olympus 50mm f/1.8, Vivitar 28mm f/2.8, Panagor Macro Converter for about 68 USD or so. It also came with the manual adapter to manually change the shutter speed. I'm loving it so far, going to buy some more film soon, excited to shoot with it! :D _KIM0043 by Yokim-Pillay, on Flickr
got a t4i. fuck yeah. [editline]23rd November 2012[/editline] to upgrade and see what's changed from 2008 to 2012... it's incredible. there are just so many improvements... to wipe the screen only to accidentally move the view on a picture i was looking at, and in that moment, realize i have a touch screen... fucking awesome experience for a tech/photography geek
Holgas. Yes or no? I personally like how cheap they are, and how you have to work that little bit more to get the shot. What about you guys? At £18 you can't really go wrong.
http://www.boyofblue.com/cameras/hiv.html should've got that instead of my K-5
I'm dying And so is the camera
