should've got that instead of my K-5
wow, very interesting cameras. thanks for the link.
These photos he has taken scare me
Looks like I'll be getting a 600D soon, I was actually able to hold off on buying games (except Black Ops 2) to have extra money to put towards it. Along with the camera I've also been looking at the Tamron 60mm because the main thing I'd like to do is macro photography but it's a $500 lens so I'll hold off for a few months until I get used to the camera. Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to get me started with macro though? I've heard of extension tubes (This one looks good and affordable: http://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Canon-Extension-Extreme-Close-up/dp/B003Y60DZO/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=3RWHES6MUNS5H&coliid=IK8DR7021QAG8) being used to get closer but I don't know for sure how it works, or if I can use it with the 18-55mm lens that comes with the camera. I've seen some videos but they didn't say which brand lenses they used, only the sizes.
for now stick with the 18-55, the close focusing on that lens is pretty great. extension tubes do work, but they cut off light so you have to have super long shutter speeds. but the tamron 60mm is a fantastic lens, and even if you don't like macro it's a pretty good portrait lens and very very sharp. even though i'm not a macro fan i would recommend that lens to anyone rather easily because of how good it is while being a decent price.
There's only one left in stock on Amazon so I'll see what I can do. Good to know that it's not only close ups though, thanks.
with the extension tubes you also lose electronic contact with the lens (on that set specifically), so you can't change the aperture and most likely you will have to shoot in manual mode. but that shouldn't be too bad as you would likely shoot wide open at that point anyways. you will be able to get super super close though, so have fun with it!
Just bought a Canonet QL17 G-III on ebay. It looks like it's in great condition and comes with a case.
Can't wait for it to get here so I can finally have a slightly more advanced film camera.
I'm looking for a DSLR that has HD (1080p) video capabilities. What is the best overall camera that has this feature.
[editline]November 25th 2012[/editline]
I'm also looking for one that has the ability to have an external microphone.
It will mostly be used for Google/YouTube work.
I'd recommend the Sony a57. It recently got a big price drop, and I recommend it over a t3i for having 60p, very good autofocus during video, and I prefer the style of swivel screen it has. Overall it is just a much easier run and gun camera than anything else in its price range.
I have a Canon 28mm, Canon 50mm, and a Tamron 90mm for my Canon 7D. While I love my prime lenses and the artistic perspective that is forced upon me by them, I'm thinking it would be really awesome to have a telephoto for traveling/taking on mountain bike trips. Any suggestions?

for some cool wide angle shit. great to have for landscape. i plan on buying the second pretty soon.

^pretty solid zoom lens.
The tokina you linked on top is a full frame lens I believe because it goes only to 12mm. And for the sigma try and get their newer 10-20mm 3.5, it has better performance at 10mm where it counts, and the price isn't too much different (around $170 for canon and $130 for Nikon). Overall just a better investment if you save up a bit of cash

I can vouch for this lens. It's sharp and the focus is pretty quick. Solid build quality too.

good to know, thanks
I don't know if anyone is after any M42 Lenses or a Canon EOS 500N and a few other things, but I have a lot of kit that I no longer use if anyone is after anything send me a PM and I'll see what sort of deal I can make.

And that stabilizer (or "VC") is really nice as well, you focus and it nails the image in place. (Downside is that if you move too much you get a ruined instead of blurry picture. But most of the time that's the same anyway, I guess...)
Anyone know a decent video editing software? I remember I asked this before, but this was like a year ago. I've been wanting to try to do some videography with my camera.
Windows: Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere
Mac: FCP 7, iMovie (for moms and dads), FCP X (more user friendly than FCP 7) and Adobe Premiere.
I use adobe premiere because of its dynamic link with Adobe after effects which is really useful for me because I do lots of VFX
Sony Vegas is supposed to be good, it has built in stabilization software which is a big plus over premiere. But premiere is easy to use, it's been my go to software.

CS6 also has stabilization.
Which Sony Vegas would you guys recommend?
Adobe's stabilizer is one hundred times better than Sony's. Vegas is a light editing program which I personally use on-the-go with my laptop in order to cut in-out and compress the media I shoot.
For more serious post work and films I'd say Adobe, the dynamic link between the Premiere and After Effects in CS6 is a dream come true, and Audition aswell.

And about Vegas I personally use V11, just cause it's new.
I didn't mean to imply that sony's was better, just that premiere itself lacks one and you need after affects in addition to premiere, sorry if I wasn't clear. But yes those two programs linked are very exceptionally good.
i use vegas 11 and it works great. it's the only thing ive actually used for projects but it does what i want it to do
Which Sony Vegas would you guys recommend?
The newer the better. 11 pro is great.
By the way, the warp stabilization in Premiere is excellent. The only thing I like Vegas over premiere for is I can go to a certain frame in the video and hit "S" and it would split it at that frame. Whereas in Premiere, you have to hit "C" for the razor tool, then line up the cut line with the marker on the timeline and click.
CS6 also has stabilization.
Oh I didn't know that, I tried to get cs6 but it only works on 64 bit so that's why I didn't :(
