I was at goodwill and they had an old manual focus Nikkor 100mm f2.8 for $37, but there were oily blades so the aperture was slow ;( Could've made a pretty penny off that That also had a Pentax K bellows and slide duplicator kit for like $45, but I don't have a K to Nex adapter and I'm getting a film tray for my v500 so that would be redundant
Best place to buy a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens cheap? I found it on Ebay for £70 here but I'm not sure
Do a bit of ebay hunting. You can get some REALLY good deals. Oh and don't import from Asia as you pay import tax.
I'm saving up to pick up the 50mm f1.8 for Canon; is it worth it? I know it's plastic and feel cheap.
Yeah it's worth it. Good lens, just don't knock it about. My only problem with it is the 5 blade aperture, it looks bad when stopped down until like 5.6, so it's best used wide open for any shots with bokeh.
I'm saving up to pick up the 50mm f1.8 for Canon; is it worth it? I know it's plastic and feel cheap.
I picked it up and I love it. Looks amazing. My only con is the focus ring. It's small and not very smooth. Almost feels like it has some grains of sand in it.
I was recommended the Canon T3i a couple pages ago. I will be using this camera mostly for Google/YouTube work. Is it a overall solid camera to purchase?
I was recommended the Canon T3i a couple pages ago. I will be using this camera mostly for Google/YouTube work. Is it a overall solid camera to purchase?
Yes.
I love my T3i, have taken around 2500 photo's without a snitch. Now.... I have a question to anyone that knows about cameras. How often do I need to clean the body? And who would I take it to do that? I do allot of swaping of lenses because I still have no clue what my preference is when it comes down to my main lens. [editline]fgn[/editline] My mother just officaly gave me this gear, has been sitting in her closet for 3+ years. Contains [Canon 10D, BG-ED3 Battery Grip, Canon 24-85mm Ultra Sonic, Canon Fisheye 15mm 2.8, Canon 50mm.] And a Canon backpack :v: [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1031910/Canon%20T3i/IMG_2446.JPG[/t] [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1031910/Canon%20T3i/IMG_2447.JPG[/t] [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1031910/Canon%20T3i/IMG_2448.JPG[/t] [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1031910/Canon%20T3i/IMG_2450.JPG[/t] Need to grab a card and a batt for this 10D just to see if it will work.
holy fuck score. also it's good to get the body cleaned like once a year or so, assuming you can afford it. just keeps it in good condition, makes your shit last longer. otherwise it's not ultra necessary to get it cleaned really frequently, you can wait til you actually start seeing shit affect your pictures if you want
I clean it myself, I use opteka wet sensor swabs. They work like magic Then a dust blower for average dust.
Yes.

I love my T3i, have taken around 2500 photo's without a snitch.
Alright I think I'm going to go into Best Buy this coming Monday, they are doing a promotion with a free bag for the same going price at Amazon.
ill be getting this soon http://www.amazon.com/Yongnuo-YN-560-Speedlight-Flash-Nikon/dp/B0079M711S/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1354727922&sr=8-14&keywords=yongnuo+ttl has great reviews, is pretty much on par with more expensive canon speedlights, and is a solid fuckton cheaper. pair it with one of their wireless receivers http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=yongnuo+rf-600&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Ayongnuo+rf-600 and you have a great setup. i have the rf-602 and it works great, if you dont mind having to replace a cr2 and a couple AAA batteries every so often.
Together it's about 110 bucks, used speedlites go for that and don't need the additional shoe!? Also, how does the slave mode on speedlites work? The 500D doesn't have any wireless transmitter as far as I know, how does the wireless triggering work? [editline]8th December 2012[/editline] TTL is the transmission of the cameras flash settings, right?
used speedlights are also a pretty bad investment. just saying. slave mode, as far as i know, has the camera control the flash's settings, and/or allows you to trigger them through the camera. i think. not totally sure on the second part. and the built-in wireless triggers will only work with corresponding brands (i.e. canon/nikon). if your speedlight is a different brand, you'll wanna pick up a wireless receiver. the transmitter part goes on the camera's hotshoe and the receiver part goes on the flash. yongnuo makes really great speedlights and receivers for cheap as balls. TTL means "through the lens". it refers to the metering mode the flash uses.
I have gotten decent luck on used flashes, but I wouldn't spend anything over $10 for one. Just too much that can go wrong, things are in goodwill for a reason typically
Are there any places that can clean the entire camera body, as opposed to just the sensor? I've been lucky because I bought my 450D second-hand, and the previous owner had simply never even taken the kit lens off - no dust on the sensor at all. Add to that the fact I never take my 28-75 off and sensor cleaning simply isn't needed. But the body might need a work-over someday.
What on the body needs cleaning?
So in Slave mode when the flash is detached it basically flashes when it registers the cameras flash?
So in Slave mode when the flash is detached it basically flashes when it registers the cameras flash?
Yes basically. The IR sensor detects another flash has gone off, and instantly fires it.
Ok. I think I'll still get a remote trigger for the cam though.
Guys, I'm kinda stuck with a dilemma. To either buy the Sigma 70-300 for 200€ Or the Tamron SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD for 330€
Are there any places that can clean the entire camera body, as opposed to just the sensor?
I don't know what other places are like, but at my work we clean the body first to prevent crap falling onto the sensor mid clean. I would've thought that most places would be somewhat like that.
bought a 30d for £120 good deal?
bought a 30d for £120 good deal?
Yeah. Now get out and shoot.

Finally picked up the 50mm f1.8; maybe I was so used to using zoom lenses. When I first used it; still thought of going through the different focal lengths and so. :V The .45M minimal focus distance is a little annoying but still works great. LOVE THE BOKEH!
The wonderful samyang/rokinon 85mm f1.4 is on sale at B&H photo for $240, great price for a great lens http://m.bhphotovideo.com/mobile/search?N=4068753570&Ns=p_HSORT&tab=search&BI=19115&KBID=10779
i'm getting it
Let us know how it is, I've had my eye on one for quite some time but haven't taken the plunge yet
I got my Canonet in the mail today and took it straight out to my work's christmas dinner. Not sure how reliable the battery it came with is, but I guess that's part of getting a new old camera. Hope the shots I got came out ok. They were in pretty bad lighting and possibly at 1/15 seconds, so I'm not overly confident in the quality that I captured. But compared to the old Edixa Reflex I was shooting with before for film, it's almost like a Rolls Royce. I totally dig the idea of a rangefinder focus and the light meter is amazingly handy (and so much more efficient than calculating sunny-16 or remembering what settings work best under similar light situations). On top of all that, it has a nice fast f/1.7 lens, which is just like working with the 20mm 1.7 I have for my OM-D (same 35mm focal length too), so it's a comfortable field of view to work with. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and can see why these cameras were popular back in their day.
Let us know how it is, I've had my eye on one for quite some time but haven't taken the plunge yet
will do [editline]11th December 2012[/editline] how long will it be on sale?
