gaah, I forgot the 30D only takes CF cards, not SD!
Is there any CF to SD converter you people can vouch for/ which works with a 30D ?

how long will it be on sale?[/QUOTE]
That I don't know, I just saw this posted online, probably will last for a few days
I finally bought a shoulderrig for my 7D. It's the cheap spiderrig you see everywhere. Bought a follow-focus+whip, rails and magnifier with it.
The production I'm in right now made me realise just how much fun making movies is.
hey everybody finally got a job so now im looking for a really sharp nikon lens to save up for preferably with a low aperture like 2.8 or 1.8 would be nice if anybody had any suggestions?

50mm f1.8
Can't go wrong there. If you want something wider then get the 35mm f1.8
Both are excellent lenses

Get G though not D lenses
D lenses are screwdrive, old optical formulas, and not weather sealed. G is a better way to future proof yourself
i've got the d version of the 50mm 1.8 but im fairly sure its been dropped on the floor at some point and it seems to have lost a load of sharpness so would you reckon that a g version is worth it?
The 50mm 1.8 G is less than $300 and it's a pretty damn fine lens. Really nice construction on the body and has an actual focus ring and it's nice and sharp for commercial use. If you want something around that focal length, it'll be perfect for you.

How much and where? I need a rig.
someone is selling a tamron 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 new for $300 near me
it's so tempting but i just dropped $500 for a sony 16-50mm f2.8...
Just picked up my Canon T3i, used my brothers Target employee discount and got it for $520 I'll take that over a free bag any day.
[editline]December 12th 2012[/editline]
Any accessories I should pick up?
[QUOTE=Ohfoohy;38796262]How much and where? I need a rig.[/QUOTE]
I got mine from DealExtreme but I'm guessing you can get Most parts from eBay.
I ordered a spider rig or whatever name it goes by with follow focus, some small 15" rails for the follow focus, 2.8 magnifier and a whip. This ran me about 240 usd.
Don't have it yet though, so I can't comment on how good it is
My dad has the opportunity to get a Nikon 1 V1 directly from Nikon for 160€ which is like $208. I think this is quite the deal, isn't it?
But is the 1 V1 a good camera overall? I mean, for that price it'd be dumb not to buy it, but I'd like to hear some opinions.

Does it come with a lens? Good price considering it debuted at like $900, it's good for sporting and street stuff, but other mirror less cameras beat it in most other areas. Taking stills during movie is nice, and the full electronic shutter means 1/16000th of a second shutter, very high burst (buffer is tiny though), an I think it can sync with flashes at any speed so it's good for product stuff at the studio. And you can use c mount primes on it for fun without losing too much image quality, the sensor is the same size as a 16mm film strip.
The lack of lenses though is a big deal, especially considering how absolutely slow the kit lens is. 3.5-5.6 is hardly acceptable for aps-c, no way is it good for a sensor as small as this. Adapting Nikon lenses shows no increase in resolution than merely cropping from a good Nikon camera, so not really worth a bother. If the kit speed and lack of lenses is fine (they have some in the pipeline like an 85mm f1.2 equiv but it will be very expensive), then take the plunge. If the rx-100 didn't exist I would consider this camera one of the ultimate vacation kits, especially for something where quick autofocus is a must
[QUOTE=Eltro102;38764334]bought a 30d for £120 good deal?[/QUOTE]
not a good deal at all! I thought MPB photographic would be reputable enough but the shutter doesn't open (Error 99 & if you do bulb mode you can see the mirror goes up but not the shutter, also after it goes down again the mirror keeps randomly flying up and down very loudly). LCD doesn't turn on aswell, AF doesn't seem to be able to lock and it has already broken one of my lenses (diaphragm doesn't return to minimum)
[editline]12th December 2012[/editline]
how quick are MPB when it comes to returns? I was really hoping to have a working camera before the 20th to take on holiday :(
Can anyone recommend a good, lightweight traveling tripod for £100 or under?
Prefer it to be light, with the ability to go very low to the ground - and, of course, has a short fold up length. Doesn't have to be very tall.
Anyone here know how much a 50mm 1.8 Gen.1 goes for?
about $130-140 iirc
[editline]12th December 2012[/editline]
they go for more on ebay because it's rare and people can mark them up
it's really not worth getting over a new one, plastic mount isn't that bad and the focus ring isn't wonderfully different it's still an AF lens. distance scale i might give you, but overall just save the cash and get something you can have warranty on for less money
[editline]12th December 2012[/editline]
also i would look here before you decide, good discussion on the lens overall

I already have one, I was looking at some new(er) wide angle lenses, but Ill just wait 13 days until I can use my new(er) camera body (T3i), and see how I like the 50mm on that. I wanted something like the 17-40 F/4L, since its cheaper and in my price-range. I prefer things with a great build quality, over a cheaper lens made out of cheaper materials.
still trusting MPB after their latest gaffe, I caved in an bought a 60d + nifty fifty w/e for ~£500

The 17-40 is a good lens, but more of a wide angle zoom for FF than an aps-c zoom lens. It's not really designed for your camera and is a limited range (17-40 translates to 28-66, not a lot) f4 isn't very quick especially compared to an aps-c tamron 17-55 or sigma 17-55, which will both be better performers on your camera is they are designed to be good general purpose zooms. The 17-40 is not.
This T3i is just too neat.

I still need to buy a class 10 card before I can start producing some video content, because Google wont pay for that.
I was thinking about going with this [url=http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Class-Flash-Memory-TS32GSDHC10E/dp/B003VNKNF0/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top]one[/url]. I'm open to suggestions though.

I more or less prefer a wider-lens, as anything past the 60mm mark on my Sigma I don't think has ever been touched. I like getting more up close and personal. Plus, I also enjoy doing alot of wider angle shots, when Im at car shows, or dealing with my buddys cars on a saturday night. The angle of view of zoomed shots don't really pop to me. A wide exaggerated field of view makes it pop IMO.
I think Ill rent the 17-40L after christmas, and if I enjoy it, Ill buy it.
So get a real wide angle lens, 17mm is hardly wide at all

(1) Fuck. I give people shit for not leaving the house, you have not left the desk. Please take photos of interesting things in interesting ways and your photos will be interesting.
(2) Don't make a single excuse to (1), if you had time to take and upload these photos, you had the time to leave the house and take better photos.

I guarantee you when driving home with my t3i I was playing with the flippy screen in the bestbuy parking lot taking silly pics.
We will all start of goofy tinkering around with it.
I remember when I first got my 550D; I was just amazed with all the lovely shallow depth of field from the shots (BOKEH!).
The Canon 18-55mm kit lens is much better than I thought. Actually left my house today and took some pictures.

Suggesting that you should upload the pictures to a site where it also can get more views. Flickr is a great site to do so.
