Anybody have any good budget ND filter recommendations?
Realistically there isn't one that's good. I see a lot of people using welding mask glass for an ND filter, which to me says leagues about the quality of cheap ND filters. Cheap ones will cause color casts and sharpness reduction. The darker they get typically the worse they are. Probably going to have to spend at least $30 to get an alright one http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00004ZCIC/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1359590932&sr=1-3&pi=SL75&tag=mercubrows-20 Variable ND filters are another story and you should pretty much only use cheap ones for video (reduced size so resolution doesn't take as much of a hit) but good ones run around $200 I would say ask wchan (a member here), he does a lot of long exposure photography and he just got one that he is getting good results from.
I've always stuck with B+W, a little on the more expensive side, but it's not a bad investment and I think filters are the one place people should splurge for sure. I'd buy an ND in the size for your largest lens (or larger to cover for the future), and use step-rings for smaller lenses.
Filters are important to get good ones if you want to use them often, and I agree with B+W. and yes you want to get big ND filters so you aren't limited to specific lenses. Probably 82mm or 77mm. Or 72 if you don't use big zooms or wide angles
I agree with bopie and Trogdon; if you can afford the B+Ws you should go for thoses (I just got a B+W 110 and loving it). If you can't afford that, a variable ND around $20 isn't that bad. I've gotten a couple of pictures with it and they are decent (link and link). You do lose some sharpness, but I haven't notice any colour shifts - atleast on my verison. You could also, as Trogdon suggested, go with the welding glass route. Probably the cheapest way to go 10 stops. There is a flickr group devoted to it.
It's funny how most, if not all the images in this group have watermarks on their pictures.
I'm leaning more towards on getting a variable ND filter, and when I said budget, I meant around ~$100, so I guess I should've mentioned that in my first post.
Those are usually soft.

I can get a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II for $50, is it at all good for video?

Thinkin about gettin one of these for my nex It's f0.33 so I could shoot great pictures of my son's candlelit soccer games!!
Slap one of those speed increasers onto it. [editline]1st February 2013[/editline]
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/676826-REG/Genus_GL_GNDF_82_82mm_ND_Neutral_Density.html What about that one? Speed booster's max speed is f0.9 due to pupil diameter ;( But I felt like posting because I just saw this thing http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/fastest-new-mirrorless-lens-ever-ibelux-40mm-f0-85/ It's so long, I wonder what the images look like. Seems very overkill. Too long for video
https://vimeo.com/55180995 really tight stuff here was shot with the 50mm, see for yourself
I could use a tight lens like that every now and again. [editline]February 1st 2013[/editline] Also how is the auto focus?
couldn't you get like a 10mm wideangle or something and just get rid of the iris ring, so your aperture would be like f/0.2 or something
The physical refractive limit is f0.5 iirc
I could use a tight lens like that every now and again. [editline]February 1st 2013[/editline] Also how is the auto focus?
it's okay, pretty quick and stuff but you don't need it if you're doing video

How does it compare to the FL 55mm or the FD 55mm asph?
I'm trying to downsize a bit and would any of you be interested in buying a Pentax SF10 (with plenty of glass) and a Rebel T2?
I'm thinking about doing a timelapse but I am sort of worried about shuttercount for whatever reason, I am at 15k now. Comments? Is this an issue?
15k is nothing [editline]3rd February 2013[/editline] and the shutter ratings don't mean anything. just use your camera [editline]3rd February 2013[/editline] if timelapses were big 'camera killers' you'd hear about it all the time, NEVER DO TIMELAPSE etc. say 100 pictures an hour for 12 hours is just 1.2k actuations, that still nets you a 40 second video at 30fps.
shutter actuations NOT EVEN ONCE
Found a rz67 pro II at a pawn shop yesterday. I thought I had hit the holy grail until I saw the price tag - $2,500 :(
Pawn shops either have crazy good deals or absolutely ridiculous prices, nothing really in between. My good deals I've gotten were a canon FL 55mm 1.2 for $30 and an Olympus om1n with a 50mm 1.4 for $40. Craigslist is typically more reasonable

Best I've gotten was a broken Zenit EM at goodwill for $10; it had a helios 44m. On craigslist I got my pentax spotmatic with a super takumar 50mm f/1.4 for $50. I've mostly been trying to find medium format gear, but everyone's prices are ridiculous.
