They will probably have a new sensor for the 70d/7dmk2 as well because its almost 5 years old at this point.
7Dmk2 with a new sensor makes a lot of sense, especially since the 7D's ISO performance isn't all that great even though it's geared towards sports shooting.
Thinking of buying a prime for my NEX-5.
I am currently trying to decide wether I want to get the 16mm Sony or the 30mm Sigma(both F/2.8), but I am having a hard time choosing one.
Pros of the 16mm:
-Pancake (Which I really like)
-Very good build quality (metal)
Cons of the 16mm:
-Not very sharp according to reviews, especially not in the corners
-bad vignetting
Pros of the 30mm:
-Fantastic Sharpness even at F/2.8 (according to reviews)
-30mm(45mm) is closer to 50mm, although I really like wide angles so this might not be that much of a pro
-100€ cheaper
Cons of the 30mm:
-Build quality is not as good. (plastic)
-Not a pancake, so not as compact as the 16mm.
I am really not sure which one to get. Logically, I should probably go with the 30mm because of the sharpness and price, but on the other hand I really like having a well build compact lens and I also like the wide-angleness. I am just scared that I won't be happy about the image quality of the 16mm.
I have both, the 16mm is alright from f4 up, but it's really wide. I like using it with my wide converter for it, having a 18mm equiv is really cool. It focuses fast and it's nicely built and quiet
The 30mm is real sharp always, but 2.8 isn't that fast for a 45mm equiv, I would rather the 35mm 1.8 OSS Sony. The price isn't bad at all (like $99 abouts) and the optical quality is surely there. It slows the operation of the camera because of the motor and the AF isn't accurate with face detection. But for $99 it's worth having around.
But it sounds like you would enjoy the new 20mm 2.8 Sony is releasing. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00B20OYUO?tag=mercubrows-20
It's a bit pricey though so I'd wait for reviews.
For now go with the 30mm, it's a good lens and the optical quality is very good and it's $99
Alright, thanks!
Yeah, I would love something even faster, but those lenses are just too expensive for me right now.
I'll go with the 30mm. Sounds like a good deal, especially at a price as low as 99$. Thanks!
Edit:
Ordered the 30mm. Should arrive on tuesday. I hope the weather will be "good", so I can take it out for a test drive.
is the 35mm 1.8 E mount?
is the 35mm 1.8 E mount?
The Sony SEL35F18 is e-mount but there's also the Sony SAL-35F18 which is a-mount. (and also half the price.)

and you have an a mount adapter?

sorry you got the 30mm, i'm an idiot

haha ignore meeee
So I'm shooting at the beach and it starts raining so we haul ass back to the car, by the time we get there we're soaked, my 5D Mk3 is soaked, had an L lens on it so I thought it would be fine.
My top aperture wheel stops being able to zoom in on my photos, then I try turning it off and on and it goes 'Err 20'. So I guess I'm taking it to the Canon repair place tomorrow. The mirror seems to be permanently locked up and the shutter is closed..
i take it you pulled the battery and it's still up?
i take it you pulled the battery and it's still up?
Yeah. No water got into anywhere as far as I could tell however, so I have no idea what happened.
Not every L-Lens is weathersealed, so which lens did you have on it?
I was under the impression that some L lenses are only properly weather sealed if they have a filter on?
I was under the impression that some L lenses are only properly weather sealed if they have a filter on?
Yes, that's correct. The 17-40mm f/4L would be one of them. That's because the front element moves in the barrel while zooming, and isn't sealed that way if you don't use it with a filter.
I had the 70-200mm 2.8 IS II on, with a filter on and a hood. :\
so apparently a nikon D2Xs is perfectly fit to go out into space as long as you give it a little white space jacket (check exif info)

I thought astronauts were Hasselblad shooters :v:
Bought a Rollei 35 TE today. Was quite dusty inside but I think I got most of it out. Haven't seen any scratches on the lense. The light meter doesn't work tough.
Does anyone have the link to this table with shutter speed / aperture opening for a good exposure?
Aperture Lighting Conditions Shadow Detail
f/22 Snow/Sand Dark with sharp edges
f/16 Sunny Distinct
f/11 Slight Overcast Soft around edges
f/8 Overcast Barely visible
f/5.6 Heavy Overcast No shadows
f/4 Open Shade/Sunset No shadows
Add One Stop Backlighting n/a
shutter-speed is 1/ISO, exposure is reciprocal so f/22 1/400 & 400ISO will get the same results as f/16 1/800 & 400ISO (in theory)
My 30mm arrived today and I took it out for some testing and I must say, I am seriously impressed. It's incredibly sharp and the color reproduction is fantastic from what I have seen today. Sure, the AF isn't perfect, but it's not bad either. Definitely a good purchase.
Also, I was kind of against 50mm all this time because I was used to using the 50mm 1.8 on my crop canon and it was hard to get enough stuff into the frame but after having now used the 30mm (which is 45mm on the nex-5) I must say, 50mm is actually .(on a full frame camera or if using something like 30mm)

It is a very cool lens, especially sharp at infinity which makes it great for landscape. Though the nex 50mm lens is probably one of the best 50mm's you can get, the modern optical formula is supposed to be really sharp across the frame and have some of the best bokeh around. It's also got OSS being the fastest prime ever to have it. I would scoop one up if it was 58mm (closer to 85mm) and I didn't already own the Canon FL 55mm 1.2, I like how that lens renders
Looking to order a T4i soon (my first DSLR, mostly for video capture) but I've never really researched lenses before. I'm looking at STM lenses, for a silent motor + better auto focus on video capture.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00894YWD0/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Amazon seems to agree that spending the extra $$$ on the 135mm STM is the best idea in the long run. It's much cheaper to buy as a kit. There's a good deal on a 250mm lens, but it isn't STM. I could also go with the standard 55mm lens, which is a whole lot cheaper, but I heard it was noisy and slow to auto-focus.
Any recommendations for a lens? Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this, never posted here before & this seemed like the most logical place!
I think the STM lenses are the only ones that work with the T4is new auto focus feature. So, if you're looking for a lens you can auto focus while recording, wait to buy a new one since there are hardly any compatible on the market.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=bl_sr_photo?_encoding=UTF8&field-brandtextbin=Sigma&node=172282
Sigmas are fairly cheap, and decent lenses. But it really depends on what you're recording.
(Don't take my opinion too seriously though, I'm still using my kit lenses)
The Canon STM kit is ~900$ with tax. The basic kit is 645$, so I've got maybe 200$ to spend on a lens. Those Sigma lenses are cheaper than the Canon STM lens retail, but more expensive than the STM kit. So if I don't get an STM lens now, it will be way more expensive later on.
The STM 18-135 is a very good lens, and better than the 18-55 and the 18-250, and likely any other similar sigma lens
Splurge for it now, you'll be very happy with your decision
Think I'll go with the STM. I feel like I'll regret it later if I don't. It's the most expensive lens out of anything posted when not sold as a kit.
Thanks guys!
I was talking about down the road lenses. Camera kits for a first time camera are pretty much the only way to go unless you have a lot of money. Also, I wasn't trying to say the STM lenses were bad in anyway. Like Trogdon said, the 18-55 sucks compared to the 18-135.
Need wide angle zoom for club work so keep the aperture wide.
I don't care if it has no AF or you have an aperture ring.
Canon EOS fit, keep the cost low.
