For southern Ontario, the weather is pretty temperate. Go north, and you got some awesome cottage country waiting for you.

They put something in it. Something to make us forget..
Can't wait when everything gets snowed in. We only had a couple full weeks of school last year during winter, a secret bonus for living in Canada.
Know that it snows alot.
I wish the current warmth is just the winter building up, so that mid-January it will go fucking apeshit and snow like 10 feet over a week.
A man can hope.
Don't pick up any Moose on the interstate.
sex with little children is illegal in Canada too
-;18509869']On Tuesday I leave for Canada for 6 months as part of my gap year. I'll be living in Banff where I am working as a housekeeper (lame, but not my choice) with a group of others coming on the trip. I'll be able to ski during days off work, which is awesome :D
So, Facepunch, is there anything interesting I should know about Canada before I go?
Thanks!
1. Tim Hortons. Ask for Timbits. They will amaze and amuse you. They also taste pretty decent.
2. Obviously, cold. I suggest a heater built into your jacket. Or a portable fireplace. Or six parkas.
3. The Polar Bears are not friendly.
4. Avoid all interaction with Poutine.
5. Have a good time eh.
Play in the snow, Have fun, Be nice, Dont trust the french

Try not to remind them of their crappy hockey teams (especially Toronto folk).
Also, sorry about living in Alberta. A fate only slightly better than Siberia. (they don't have Tim Hortons).

Contrary to popular belief, not all Canadians like hockey. More like 1 in 5.

Hockey is a requirement to being a Canadian citizen.

unfortunatly, in quebec, its the other way around. 1 out of 5 doesn't like hockey
I don't like it.
Hockey is a requirement to being a Canadian citizen.
It's like soccer. Most of us have played it as kids but we don't give a shit when we get older.
Also, OP, if you find yourself playing in the CFL remember that the field is bigger
Here's a small list of things not to do:
-Don't ask them a question and then ask them to repeat the answer in American because you can't speak Canadian. They don't understand sarcasm.
-Don't end every sentence with "eh?".
-Don't tell them hockey is a girly sport. Again, the sarcasm thing applies.
-Don't call Canada "America's hat".
-Don't ask them if you can ride their pet moose.
Just a few things I learned the hard way.
If you break your leg skiing, you won't have to pay :)

It's not that we don't understand sarcasm (we do, obviously), it's that the joke is stupid.
-Don't end every sentence with "eh?".
Don't do it on purpose, rather. People say, "eh" occasionally regardless of where they're born.
-Don't tell them hockey is a girly sport. Again, the sarcasm thing applies.
I don't find that offensive, so your little tip there is invalid.
-Don't call Canada "America's hat".
We don't care about statements like that.
-Don't ask them if you can ride their pet moose.
Again, it's just a stupid joke. The reason we don't laugh is because it's not funny, not because it's offensive, which it is not.

Sorry, I forgot that your view represents that of the entire Canadian nation. Next time I'll make sure to consult you before I post a joke.

Farewell to Nova Scotia the seabound coast.
Let her mountains dark, and dreary be.

Will you ever heave a sigh or a wish for me
