yeah, happened to me once.
thought the dream was real, and was like HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK but then I was like lolwut I'm retarded.
:siren: ACTUAL ANSWER :siren:
This happens because as your body is falling asleep your heart rate can drop very quickly, so your brain thinks your dying so its blasts you with some adrenaline as a way to protect you.

I don't think this is the case because it doesn't feel like my heart is beating any faster or whatever. Also you probably wouldn't be able to sleep for quite a while after a sudden adrenaline rush.
I get that. Sometimes I semi-dream that a car hits me, or that I'm falling, then i jerk and wake up. It usually makes my heart go really fast. Just shrugg it off.
Juts read the post above/below me, I think that's right.
Also i think we'll have to make a difference between actual spasm while actually falling asleep or spasms that occur due to sudden events in a dream/while you're already asleep.
most of them are from your muscles relaxing
Wow, OP, you and me are fucking alike, i was JUST going to post this, when i saw your thread, but, idk if anyone knows, but during my first hour, i will be sleeping, and i fall and my legs spazm and i get light headed, is this normal?
Good god, combine your sentences!
Sometimes when I am in mid-sleep I feel like I'm about to fall so my legs kinda kick out :derp:

This happened to me when I was on a roller coaster. As we had just reached the bottom of a drop, I felt sleepy then had a spasm.
This happens to me all the time, I'll lay my head down in class, and my leg will freak out and jerk outwards and everyone gives me the weirdest look.
Happens to me sometimes except someone is throwing a ball at me always and it hits me than I freak the fuck out.
It is normal its called a "Hypnic Jerk"
The two theories about Hypnic Jerks
1) as a subject's heartbeat and breathing slow down, hypnic jerks occur as a natural part of muscular transition
2) hat as a subject falls asleep, their muscles begin to relax and cease working, causing the brain to believe that the body must be falling through air. It is thought that this causes people to thrash their limbs in an attempt to catch something or turn oneself upright
Ya that happens to me all the time. I dream that i'm running and i trip in my dream and then i jump up.
I'm guessing you are snorting too much diphenhydramine hydrochloride

From my experience, 2 fits better.
One time when I was young I dreamt that I was in an episode of Pingu. Next thing I know Pingu clapped his hands (wings? flippers?) and the ice beneath me shattered and I jerked awake. Needless to say, I never watched Pingu again.
They're seizures.
You`re going to die
It happens... a lot actually.
Sometimes when I'm dreaming, I fall down or something then I wake up with the sensation of falling for a second.
It's an awesome feeling.
It's normal, happens to me sometimes.
This
Which is annoying because it wakes me up and I find it hard to go to sleep and stay asleep due to my insomnia.
So the thing I heard on TV is not true? About this being related to our tree-dwelling days as monkeys, where a sleeping startled monkey would thrash out its arms and/or legs hoping to catch a tree limb or vine to prevent itself from falling.
That happens to me when I get sick a lot of the time. The last time I had the flu I spasmed pretty much every time I closed my eyes for an extended duration.

that was probably the blood rushing out of your brain, (still had momentum), so your brain thought you where dieing
It's normal, happens all the time.
REM = Rapid Eye Movement
Happens in when you're in deep sleep or whatever you call it.
oh thats right. its 1-2-3-4-rem-1-2 etc. so it happened when you were slipping from stage 1-2 or maybe its 3-4 I JUST DONT KNOW
"It hits like a sleep twitch."
Yeah, I have this sometimes. Pretty annoying. :v:
Another thing annoying me is when I wake up, and I see things in my room.
Well, actually it has only happened twice in last week - really creepy.
One of them was a mouse running on my duvet, and I was like "Okay, I know this mouse aren't there"
But I kept looking, and I kept seeing it.
I had to turn on my goddamn light to be sure!
The same thing happened 2 days later.
Yet it was more creepy, I saw a man that was hung in the other end of the room.
I was really freaking out, I could clearly see him until I turned on the lights.
:(
Happens when I am thinking about falling down the stairs.
