i wouldn't worry too much if you fail though, all the shit drivers seem to pass first time. seriously, everyone i know who passed first time has either crashed or got banned. 6 years and i haven't had a single point.
Don't try and rememeber everything, just go out there and do it. If you've had enough practice (any decent instructor will know when you have) most of it will be automatic. You can screw up, as long as you do it in a safe manner. I don't believe the guy who got off for hitting the kerb for a moment. If the instructor notices that they wont let you off.
A couple of points though
1. Dont ask for your instructor to sit in the back. The examiner will feel under pressure to seem fair and probably go harsh on you.
2. The examiners dont want to let out anyone they feel is a danger on the roads.
i clipped the curb when reversing round a corner and got a minor but that was the only one so i guess he overlooked it.
anyway if all else fails, a few whiskeys before the test helps calm your nerves
It's easier if it's an area you're familiar with, i.e you're doing the test in your town rather than elsewhere.
Pass it.
don't go around the outside of a roundabout if you're going more than one exit like I did (and failed)
Load of bullshit, you use the outside to turn left or go across the roundabout, inside for turning right. I passed my driving test last September.
Take a shot of whiskey and then chew some gum to cover up the smell. Helps you relax.
I did this and passed the test!
Another thing, that people shouldn't know, in the UK, driving testers are bound to stick to a quota of students that can pass their test per month. You can't tell when the quota begins for them. You just have to hope you are inside the quota to have the chance of passing, too many passes that month and they cant let you pass. It's a con.
drive defensivly, and just chill

Nope, I know a driving tester.
When in doubt:
FLOOR IT.
Nope, I know a driving tester.
i don't believe you
If it's icy, and you're in a fwd car, use handbrake to make navigating car parks easy.
Don't get shot at because Roman might die and you can't go bowling.
Also, just show up calm as fuck and really polite and act like it's nothing. Drive like you're a chauffeur aswell. Smooth as possible. You'll be :frogc00l: and he'll think you're worthy of a license.
I have my test on the 26th of this month. I think I'll be okay, just need to remember to look around more visually. My instructor keeps picking up that I barely move my head to look around.

This is a complete and total myth.

Actually that's not true, you can hit the kerb and still pass. What matters is how you hit the kerb. Obviously mounting the kerb means you're going to fail, but if you just touch it, you'll be fine. It's all about showing you're in control.
The thing about not taking your instructor with you is totally true though, the examiner will explain to your instructor what you did wrong if you fail anyway, so taking them with you is fairly pointless.
It took me a few attempts to pass, mostly because of nerves. But from what I picked up on my tests, here's a few tips.
Be confident in your driving, but don't appear over confident to your examiner.
Get plenty of sleep the night before, and have something decent for breakfast.
Try to get as late a test time as possible, last slot of the day is always preferable.
If nerves is a big problem for you, as it was for me, there are a few things out there you can buy to help. There's stuff like Kalms to help you calm down (while a shot of whisky might work, I really don't recommend it).
Good luck with your test, though! :)
so did you pass!
so did you pass!
Nope. Update on the OP. :smith:
I'm such a herp. And to think, I could have driven to college tomorrow, like everyone I know (Seeing as i'm the youngest)
Ah. This sucks
Protip: Drive the examiner like you would drive a friend to a place (while not driving like a cock)
I failed twice and now after a year and a few months of experience I consider myself a decent driver. The first and only time so far when I hit something was a few weeks ago when I hit a low wall with the back. Just scratches, nothing serious.
Failing once or twice doesn't make you a bad driver, on the contrary. If you drive super careful on the test because it's a test, you'll end up driving quite less careful when you're actually on the road. That could also explain why women are worse drivers in general. Driving like you would drive (obviously at least a bit more careful until you get used to the road/car) alerts the instructor about your flaws.
I passed third time. I always went for the very first test of the day on a saturday, empty roads, and fresh mind. I liked my instructor in the car, that way she could see trouble spots if i had any during the tests and because i would likely not remember where they were, she could take me back and practice. The guy i passed on was apparently the hardest to please. We got on though, might have been something to do with us having the same first name :P
On my second attempt, i mounted the kerb turning out of the test center, it's a 90 degree super tight and sharp turn and its a very common thing to happen, he never said anything about it, and i did it quite obviously (not on purpose) but i assume loads and loads of other people do it there so they just put it down to nerves.
This is a complete and total myth.
It's not a myth, it's heavily denied by the driving test examiners, but if you look at the figures the pass rates never change by more or less than 5%. All the instructors in my area know this. The head of my local test centre refuses to talk to people about it.
I failed the fourth time today. You have to take a written exam and a driving exam in The Netherlands. Passed the written exam on my first try (costs €35/$45) and driving exams cost €235/$300. That means I've already wasted $1200 dollars!! And I also have to pay my driving instructor €1300/$1700. And if you fail 4 times you have to take a different exam which costs more but it's not as hard.
I mounted the curb after my test ended, was pulling into the test centre and fucking mounted it. Still passed but shiiiit that would've sucked :v:
I failed my first test for not moving over to the left hand lane on a dual carrideway.
Passed second time though.
Did a week of lessons then passed first time with 3 minors.
Gotta love the Army :v:

how did you fail four times
Try to get as late a test time as possible, last slot of the day is always preferable.
I'd heard that the test centres have quotas on the number of people to pass per day. So taking a late test is a bad idea as they may have met their quota.
I would have guessed that you'd be better off with a mid morning test when there is less traffic around, or during rush hour when there is so much traffic you can't move. Surely the examiner would be more lenient during rush hour as well, especially knowing how drivers usually are around learners (Which is a good point, do they put L plates on cars used for driving tests?).
feel for you, i failed 2 mins before the end on one too. how fucking unlucky.
I know right? :/ Same for you
What was your reason for failing?

Look on the bright side, it's some more experience under your belt before you hit the road yourself, and you know what to expect next time.
