If you need to sneak, move slowly yet deliberately. You know the muscle you tighten to keep piss in when you gotta take a leak really bad? Tighten that muscle when you move. It helps to absorb the impact, reducing noise. Lift a door upwards when opening it, it puts less weight on the hinges, reducing the creek.
Be sure to always check your light meter
When it fills up, hide in some bushes, and the person looking for you should pause a few feet away and start talking if you've done it right.
I used to sneak around/hide all the time. I would hide in closets and be so quiet that people would actually open up the closet searching for me, rummage through clothes and get within 2 inches of me, but wouldn't notice because I was dead silent and still. I crawl on all-fours when I'm stealthing around instead of crouch walking.
Stay closer to walls when sneaking. The floors creek less at the walls. [editline]13th August 2011[/editline] Same with stairs: Sneak towards the tip of the stair, it will creek less. [editline]13th August 2011[/editline] Also, put your phone on fucking silent. Turn off vibrate, too. Oops, first two bits are in OP. Sorry. [editline]13th August 2011[/editline] Clothing makes noise. Cotton clothes make the least. Tennis shoes are ideal footwear.
Were are those "How To: xxx" threads like, "How to disable a car" then within the thread it had a disclaimer for educational purposes only.
If you want to open your fridge without anyone hearing you, break the seal on the length of the door with your finger and you won't get any annoying sound when you go to open it.
I remember once when I played hide and seek in the forest with some friends, hid in the underbrush. Wasn't found until I got up.
when i try to sneak it seems like my clothes make a ton of noise, is that just its so close to me
I'm usually not one to suggest thread music, but:
Stealth games aren't really feasible to play in small areas with choke points like a house, one of the most important factors in not getting caught is not being expected and as well as not being expected not having the people guarding the area knowing what you're there for, if you designate an area as a win point then any person with a brain will be able to identify the key choke points to getting there and setup patrols to cover them (if it's an upstairs area in a house then just guard the stairs and the windows.) There's a lot more you could write about stealth in the OP post.
I really wish never happened. Too tacticool for me.
To move silently you need to be in a position similar to this for most of your movement.
Dunno where you heard that, but that is not at all the position you need to be in to move silently, any position will work so long as you decreases the amount of friction occurring between your clothing, try not to step down too harshly or clap the floor with your feet and pay mindfulness to the type of surface you're navigating. You're much better off just moving in the way you're most comfortable, the only thing crouching achieves is making your silhouette smaller.
Stealth is good, being able to hide in plain sight however, is better.
Feet close together to keep your center of balance over your legs at all times, but not so close that you need to balance to stay upright- approximately shoulder width. Keep your back bent over, and your legs only slightly bent. Take short steps with the heel first, leaning on your back foot to minimize sound, then transferring your weight to the front foot as you complete the motion, using your arms for counterbalance. Your rear foot should leave the ground at the same rate that your front foot flattens on the ground. One of the many government-taught skills my father passed on to me.
Isn't this the style Codename 47 uses?
I'm sure my parents would be more worried than frightened if i started trying to sneak around the house...
I am also a fan of art of stealth, after playing Splinter Cell games. But I also discovered Social Stealth in Assassin's Creed 2 and started practicing bleding with crowds, are you going to cover social stealth in your posts? Also, when I was like 11 years old, I had this black sweater with hood, so i just jumped in the bushes and covered myself with some leaves and remain unhidden, too close to the spot where you tag people in Hide and Seek. Made my "comeback" succesful thrice to the spot without being intervened.
sneaking around is the ultimate reason to play hide and go seek it's extra fun at around dusk where your eyes won't be able to adjust properly to the light
I added a lot of stuff to the thread if you want to check it out and I'm sorry about the position thing guys.
Another tip: Size doesn't matter unless you are trying to fit into small spaces. I'm a large kid, largest in my family, and yet I remain the stealthiest.
That was great. I snuck into the closet under my staircase and scared my mom as she walked by.
hiding in the pantry; most unexpected hiding spot ever.
Just for the hell of it I attempted to sneak from my basement to my room upstairs. Besides one or two creaky stairs and creaking hardwood floors I was fine. Any advice for going past furniture and doorways?
The best use of citizen stealth (because I'm not james motherfucking bond) I've ever had was in a game of manhunt (british chase tag or whatever) once. I was stood where the blue/red lines begin, with my other friend. It was 2v2, two searching, two hiding. It was fairly obvious where my guy was (we decided to split up) and he's highlighted as a white circle on the map. He was hidden in some trees (dark green) and there was a fence there. I literally went prone though leaves and shit, then I jumped the fence. The fence has a small ditch on the side I landed, and I literally 'planked' in the ditch because my friend heard and looked over. He came right over to the fence and nearly fucking stepped on me. Just as he turned around to go back through the trees, I stood up and grabbed his shoulder and tagged him. Forgot to mention, the route I was expected to take in red, route I took in blue

Protip: Don't stand in front of people. Instead, stand behind them. In all seriousness, a great hiding spot is above the people searching for you. If you can climb a wall or up structures pretty well (and silently being a bonus) and lay low, they'll almost never look upward.

I remember a couple of years ago, when I used to play Hide and Seek with a couple of other kids. Sneaking was so awesome
This one time I was at a party with three of my friends, and we slept outside in a tent. One of my friends had his half-brother and two of his friends sleep outside in another tent not too far from ours, and at like 1 AM we decided to sneak around their tent and scare them (they were like 2 to 4 years younger than us). At some point they heard us and got out of their tent and started looking around, and we stayed low in the grass slowly crawling around. At one point they went up to the house and stood on the porch for about ten minutes or so, and we laid in the lawn, in almost plain sight, watching them. It was the most fun I've ever had sneaking around.
For doorways it depends what room the doorway leads to. Please describe the types of rooms you are trying to get past.
Ok, so the doorway going into the living room from the dining room is right next to the one for the basement. Then you go through the living room and go up the stairs. Right next to the stairs is a doorway to my parents' room then there's a tiny corner then there's my room. If you want pictures I'd be happy to provide them.
What position do you suggest,
The Missionary Position.
