Apparently this is an unpopular opinion but I like brutalist architecture:
The problem is when it is no longer desirable. Often times with poured concrete buildings, it is more expensive to tear down the building then it is to build somewhere else from scratch.
The model is done at 20" wide, but might look narrow because I have it at 50" length. Height is standard coffee table height. The design is flexible, it could be 24, 26 wide if needs be, It just depends on the intended space.
That is an awesome ceiling. It's the kind of thing that really makes you want to take a trip to Europe. Might start planning one soon... [editline]20th January 2015[/editline] Fantastic stuff, really. Do you do prints? I just want to plaster my walls in those photos, and I'm not sure that's healthy. Also, would you mind if I grab some of these for the OP? I think it'd be cool to have some "local" talent featured up there.
Go for it! You honour me. I can tell you where they are from if you want specific info. (As far as prints though, I don't currently have anything set up, I could though I suppose.)

Which is a shame, because I'd love to do a study abroad there or something, but it's $15000 for a summer.
An architecture thread, finally! I've always meant to make one myself, and I think somebody attempted it before but it never got much activity. Being in General Discussion now helps a bit I guess, huh? I'm a Civ. engineering major now, but originally I wanted to major in Architecture. Since most of my credits don't transfer over, I gave up on that as it is too much of a time and money commitment, but I hope I can return for a masters in it one day. Hopefully I get my hands on a camera soon so I can dab a little into my own portfolio of architecture, locally or wherever.

I was kind of waiting to see if anyone else would, but it just never happened. Sometimes you've got to take the first step, I guess. Speaking of architecture more broadly, I found out that there's a store at my university that sells tiny dimensional lumber for tiny houses. I might do a little reading on architectural modeling and try my hand at making some desk statues. You were majoring in architecture, would you have any advice for that?
Be patient, don't sweat the small stuff (or at that scale... the very small stuff), white glue is much better than you think, super glue is better still, get an exact o knife, a mat, a metal ruler, be careful you don't cut your finger tip off, a miter saw and box is also super useful, and a scale ruler. (I graduated from architecture this last year and am going back next year for masters, I have spent 40+ hours on a single model before). The main thing to know is that if you have a plan, it's actually not too hard. Oh, and access to a laser cutter is also incredibly nice. If I get any time in the coming days Ill post some pictures of some of my models.
My DSLR came in today, so I'll be doing a lot more photography around my city from now on. I do need a little bit of advice, though. Anyone got any recommendations for UV filters? I can't find a decent one that doesn't have ghosting for under $100.
I spent about two hours walking around my city taking photos of anything and everything I could point my camera at. Expect the first of many photo dumps up tomorrow around 3ish. Also, Smeetin, sorry I haven't put any of your stuff in the OP. Whenever I go to edit it, I get a blank text box and my changes never save. I'm going to talk to the mods about it, see what I can do.
And here's that much-needed injection of content I mentioned yesterday, in stunning super high definition! You'll have to forgive my photography skills. They're serviceable, but not much more. If you guys like the brightly-colored Victorians, we've got thousands. I could literally spend all day taking photos of them. Anyway, I'll put up five more tomorrow, and keep doing that until I run out of photos. Let's start getting some actual content back in here.
