No, there are lots of harmful things in having a zealous devotion to the god you believe in. You can believe in god without being a fanatic, following archaic religious dogma, or not eating fish on friday in his name.
IE you can believe in a god for no reason at all and with no consequences, but when did that ever happen? Why would the brain build a model without some sort of application? Why would it make up a God unless it wanted to rationalize something it couldn't otherwise?
Religion gives many Humans on this planet a hope for the afterlife. Right now we have little to nothing to explain what this said Afterlife is other than the sects of Religion. Humanity needs and clings to religion to ease their worriments about Death. Like I said, Religion helps explain what Humans cannot so far, we can't even find out what happened before a Big Bang or what would happen after the Big Crunch or who made it. Religion has also played a huge part in diversifying Humanity and Culture. If we seek to exterminate it or render such obsolete we would degrade.
Then why am I an atheist, and deny the existence of the afterlife, without worrying about death?
Where do you draw the line? How many perfectly ordinary people in California do you think got up, ate breakfast, read the newspaper, fed their dog, and went out and voted for Proposition 8?
how about we draw the line at voting for proposition 8, or any other use of your beliefs to justify actively oppressing others? I doubt every christian in california voted for it
Then why am I an atheist, and deny the existence of the afterlife, without worrying about death?
Because you are not a part of the larger sect of Humans that do believe in the Afterlife and are afraid of Death.
;19048938']This makes my point. Because the big bang shows that prior to it, there was no time or proof of properties similar to that of our current universe, we cannot know the "cause" of it through science. Because religion attempts to explain this through beings outside this realm, many religious claims cannot be examined by science either. These claims may not be true, but science's ability to explain happenings such as these is just as limited. Therefore, there is no logical explanation; people will always create their own beliefs for these kinds of things.
Yet another jackass who doesn't know jack. It's not that there was no time before the big bang, it's just that anything that happened before it is irrelevant because all matter in the universe was condensed into a singularity.
how about we draw the line at voting for proposition 8, or any other use of your beliefs to justify actively oppressing others?
How do you know when you're oppressing them? What if you believe that you're helping them? I'm sure a lot of the prop 8 voters believed that they were helping SOMEONE by voting for it.
Because you are not a part of the larger sect of Humans that do believe and are afraid of it.
I know, I just shit my pants every night thinking "oh fuck, everyone else believes in a magic man who controls the universe!"
He's a troll. And if he's not he's a stuck up asshat who thinks he knows it all. As you are a "mere boy" SHUT THE FUCK UP! Believe what you want. You contradict yourself "you Christians, jews, etc try to force your beliefs on me but THIS IS WHY I'M RIGHT" Really? Don't force us to be on the fence when you're trying to have us back off of you.
how about we draw the line at voting for proposition 8, or any other use of your beliefs to justify actively oppressing others? I doubt every christian in california voted for it
There's also the fact that over half the population of the US say they would never vote for an atheist president, but more to the point, I doubt every christian in california is at all comforted by their foma. But how do you distinguish between morally right morals and morally wrong morals? I know a guy who volunteered in Nawlins after Katrina because he believed God wanted him to do the right thing. He also disbelieves in evolution and gay rights. It's religion, you're getting your ideas from scripture, you don't get to pick and choose. You don't get to tell people "ok, you can keep believing in this and this but you have to stop believing in these divinely-inspired guidelines because they're evil"
I know, I just shit my pants every night thinking "oh fuck, everyone else believes in a magic man who controls the universe!"
I don't get how why some people view other people who are affiliated in Religion as idiots or 'blind' people. I mean I'm Catholic. I go to Church every other week, sometimes I just go, listen to the Priest and hang with a few friends from school even go to Retreat with them. I confess to bad sins, I even pray at night every now and then to get some comfort for the next day. Call me weak I could care less, I that is one of the few good ways to deal with stress in my life, honestly, I do not know how Agnostics and Atheists would deal with their bad days or stress of regular life but I doubt that you would talk or vent about your vices to your friends or family.
Yet another jackass who doesn't know jack. It's not that there was no time before the big bang, it's just that anything that happened before it is irrelevant because all matter in the universe was condensed into a singularity.
By time, I meant our current perception of time. Of course there's the possibility for events to have taken place and alternate scientific laws to have existed, it's just that they probably did not operate exactly like our own universe's laws. Therefore, our own science cannot properly examine the singularity and events related to it, including the period previous to and up to the big bang.
You can't prove there is a higher consciousness, nor can you prove that there isn't a higher consciousness, therefore the logical choice here is to be a-higher consciousnessist. It's really this simple.
I think debating over this on the internet is not a logical choice.
My point stands. Give me tech for walking on water and it would support your theory, at the very least, show that it is theoretically possible.
If I had tech for walking on water I would give it to a manufacturer so I could be a kajilionare, not you. This alien/god creatures that I am thinking of have this tech.
Fucking automerge double post bullshit
