• Why aren't you agnostic?

I'm an open-minded theistic agnostic.
"Agnostics are just lazy atheists" -Community
Couldn't be more opposite. Personally I'm (currently) an agnostic that leans towards belief in God. Eventually I hope to flesh out my beliefs further.
What is it called when you really don't care either way?
A supreme being, that has some sort of power on the world. Sort of like you and I, except on a much larger scale.
How does he breathe?
I'm an open-minded theistic agnostic.
You can't prove there is a god, nor can you prove that there isn't a god, therefore the logical choice here is to be atheistic. It's really this simple.
You don't need to know that something that isn't true, isn't true. Why can't you comprehend this? Do you need to prove that there isn't a bullet about to punch through your skull? Do you need to prove that your house isn't going to collapse right now (Given that you have no evidence pointing to something that may lead to structural failure, like an earth quake or whatever)? Do you need to prove that a god that has no evidence for his existence, doesn't exist?

Born into the first one, yes. I wanted to actually learn about my religion instead of just practicing pointless traditional ceremonies, so I started attending a church that taught me what Christianity was and what was in the bible. I started joining online discussions (around 2002 or so) along with my first Biology high school class, and the whole evolution thing came about to making me disbelieve in anything, and I became an atheist. A few months ago (6 months?) I decided that anything was possible, and science is never 100% right, and there are too many things unexplainable in this world. I believed that I wasn't educated enough about the world to become a judge of something as big as religions (a reality check that smart ass people on the internet need to do). I became agnostic. I began to read Revelations, and lots of end of the world prophecy things. I ended up thinking about the possibility of aliens, advanced aliens, being our "God". The pieces fit the puzzle, and I began looking back into religion, and I truly believe that there's a supreme being controlling everything that's happening, and we're merely his "experiment rats". This supreme beings has knowledge much beyond any human, and has "powers" (technology?) far beyond anything imaginable by humans. I believe that these/this supreme being(s) turned the older humans into hunter-gatherers, which I guess it could mean that they qualify at "creating" the modern human that was "created" around 6000 years ago. If the bible is their teaching, then I suppose that I must abide their teachings, and since I was born into Christianity, I guess I can continue onto that path. I suppose I just tied science and religion into perfect harmony in my head, so maybe that's why I'm happy about my religion and you might not be.

I ended up thinking about the possibility of
Keyword. There's also the possibility that God wants you to kill yourself right now. Possibilities don't mean anything if there's no evidence to support it. Also lol @ you being a scientologist in-between agnosticism and Christianity. And you being happy with what you believe doesn't make it less stupid, but I guess that's another fallacies your parents taught you. I think your idea sounds cool and all, but that's for science fiction, not for when you want to be taken seriously. Stop wasting your time for your own sake.
What is it called when you really don't care either way?
Apatheist.
The fact that TheMetalMan managed to get all up ons evolution and be in science discussions and whatnot and still not learn the most basic fundamentals of critical thought is fairly depressing No hope for this generation
Apatheist.
I guess I'm an Apatheist
Rename the thread: Why aren't you a thirteen year old boy trying to seem cool, while not fully understanding the concept I am defending?
And I thought my made up explanation was funny. I guess sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.
I decided that anything was possible: Can you slam a revolving door? Yes. I work at a hospital where after-hours revolving doors have "traps" that make them stop moving and you can actually slam them shut. I believe in infinite worlds, and in infinite worlds anything is possible.. I don't really want to get into this. I believed that I wasn't educated enough about the world to become a judge of something as big as religions: And why not? You don't really need to be educated to judge something that has the same amount of evidence as fairy tales? Yes you do. People need to quit being egotistical asshats. In 100 years the person that is the same age as me or you will likely be more educated than you and I. The person that is the same age as you and I 100 years ago, is likely to be less educated than you and I. This largely due to technology and other types of research. I began to read Revelations, and lots of end of the world prophecy things.: People have been predicting the end of the world since we could think about something besides getting food. Again, I'm more educated, and likely smarter than those people due to my education. Lots of prophecies in the bible have come true, and there's a prophecy about the end of the world there. That's my point.
You're probably not smarter than they are, and you're not as educated as you think you are.
Fuck you. [editline]07:08AM[/editline] Just kidding.
Sitting on the fence won't work on this topic.
"no banana" are you referring to the logic of a person saying that they have a banana and that you cannot disprove they have one therefore they have one?
No, I'm saying that if we needed an assertive belief for everything we didn't believe in, our brains would explode.
Sitting on the fence won't work on this topic.
Then have fun falling off the fence.

And yet you trust their writings more then the writings of today.
They don't disprove it. I never said that they did, but they do show that everything in the universe can and will be explained scientifically, eventually, thus it leaves a deity out of the picture, and well, occam's razor takes care of the rest.
but it does not disprove a deity, and while you guys are saying "if there is no evidence for something, you shouldn't believe in it", regardless of whether or not there is evidence, there is most definitely a precedent for it. Belief in god is something that has been with mankind for thousands of years and to call people illogical for not casting it off is to ignore the most basic of human nature: to retain elements of your culture and it's past, and to believe in things, not based on a purely logical standpoint, but on an emotional one as well. Basically what I'm saying is that just because you see no reason to believe in god doesn't mean other people don't have their own perfectly good reasons to believe. To expect people to be perfectly scientific beings, basing all of their beliefs on scientific facts and logical proofs is naive and insulting. knowing how atoms interact doesn't help people sleep at night. Hoping that there's someone watching over you, even if it is illogical and you know it, does.
i simply am i simply exist i dont need a fucking priest or athiest to tell me why i just do y'all need to be more fucking chill, i swear, you're all gonna pull something lolpage6
To those of you who say that if you saw it, then you would believe it, read this. In the Bible, the disciples were on a boat, and the the ride was tough. Waves, and harsh winds were the main point of it, and on top of that, it was at night. Then Jesus was walking on the water in front of them, and they said it was a spirit. They didn't believe it. The disciples that followed Jesus for over a year didn't believe what they saw. They then found out it WAS infact Jesus.

The thing is, we don't need such comforts anymore, as we know why these things happen. Let me reiterate that they are comforts, not anything based in logic or fact. The world would be a better place if people didn't cling to their religious beliefs.

As in most similar cases, I believe that arguing over each other's beliefs is completely pointless. 99% of the time, calling others ignorant or wrong for believing differently than you does nothing to change their minds, and it tends to only make you look pretentious or confrontational; this applies to any belief system, atheistic or Christian. My point: stop arguing over stuff no one can prove; it's pointless.
