if the person expects and can not deal with people who will bully him because of him being gay, then I'd think it'd be best for him to stay in the closet
ugh you make me sick
I think people are just pussies now a days. Like I'm fat, I've been bullied at school, but did I start crying and let it bother me? Sure it hurt right when they said it, but then I shrugged it off and walked away. They said it to me again the next day, I walked up to them told them to go fuck themselves and if they had a problem lets settle it. Never got bullied after that, and that was in grade 9. I'm in college now, haven't been bullied since. When I was finished high school I was friends with all the jocks and friends with all the nerds, no one started anything with me and I stuck up for anyone who was getting bullied. People just need to toughen up and understand that it's not the end of the world if someone makes fun of you. If someone starts something with you, confront them. I've been in fights, won some, lost some, gotten my ass kicked. But by standing up to the bullies they learned that I'm not about to take their bullshit, and I'm willing to do something about it.

It's ridiculous.
Yes, elementary/middle school kids who can't handle kids taunting them for being different are definitely pussies.
I'm sure that's not what he intended to say, moreover he thinks that people should be encouraged to stand up for themselves.
Bullying builds character.
Bullying builds character.
No it ruins people's lives.
No it ruins people's lives.
Correct. As Pascall said, bullying is damaging. Teasing isn't.
Correct. As Pascall said, bullying is damaging. Teasing isn't.
No it maintains mental strength.
No it maintains mental strength.
I didn't know suicidal tendencies as a result of bullying have a mentally bolstering effect. I guess the large portion of children who can't handle bullying by themselves are mentally inferior?
OP, there are millions of better ways to 'build character' then bullying. Bullying is frankly disgusting and unexcusable. Bullies always have problems. They solve them disgustingly through means of mental and physical violence. You saying 'suck it up, it's a part of life' is ignorant. We could make the world a whole different, and better place if it weren't for people like you. I hope all this feedback hopes you change your mind.
Just some scientific journal evidence.
Abstract The recent school shootings in Europe and the USA have raised the question of whether victims of bullying run an increased risk of committing violent crimes later in life, but scientific research in this area is scarce. The aim of this work was to investigate whether bullying behaviour is associated with later criminal offences committed in adolescence and young adulthood. We studied a sample of 508 Finnish adolescents (age 12–17 years) admitted to psychiatric inpatient care between April 2001 and March 2006. Data on crimes committed and the age of onset of criminal activity were extracted from the official criminal records of the national Legal Register Centre in October 2008. The Schedule for Affective Disorder and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children, Present and Lifetime (K-SADS-PL) was used to define bullying status, and to obtain DSM-IV-based psychiatric diagnoses for the adolescents. Violent crimes were statistically significantly associated with bullying behaviour, but not non-violent crimes. Furthermore, being a bully was predictive of an early onset of severe violent offences. When controlled for the psychiatric diagnoses of the adolescents, we observed decreased likelihood of criminality among victims. Thus bullying others may increase the risk of violent offences, while being a victim is not a risk factor for criminality.

Abstract Childhood bullying behaviors (bullying and victimization) were studied as risk factors for substance use among Finnish males. The study design was a nationwide prospective general population study, where information was collected in 1989 and 1999. Bullying behaviors and childhood psychopathology at age eight were collected from teachers, parents and boys themselves. At age 18, self-reports of frequent drunkenness (once a week or more often), daily heavy smoking (10 cigarettes or more per day), and illicit drug use during the past six months were obtained from 78% of the boys attending the study at age eight (n = 2946). Being frequently victimized at age eight predicted daily heavy smoking, and this was evident even after adjusting for childhood family background, psychopathology at age eight and at age 18, and other forms of substance use. In multivariate analysis, bullying others frequently predicted illicit drug use, while being a victim of bullying associated with a lower occurrence of illicit drug use. Bullying behaviors had no association with frequent drunkenness independent of other factors. Accordingly, being a victim of bullying predisposes in particular to subsequent smoking. Bullying others in childhood can be regarded as an early indicator to illicit drug use later in life. The screening and intervention possibilities in order to recognize the risk group for later health compromising behaviors are emphasized.

Discussion Being the victim of bullying involves the experience of suffering a defeat and humiliation that in turn could lead to entrapment, hopelessness, depression and suicidal behaviour. Conclusions Bullying is already known to be associated with substantial distress and other negative consequences and this further evidence of a strong correlation with the risk of suicide in later life should increase further the motivation of society, services and citizens to act decisively to reduce bullying in childhood.
Bullying leads to increased risk of suicide in the victim even in adulthood and being a bully leads to increased risk of committing violent crimes and being involved in illicit drug use. Yea there is defiantly no reason to want to stop bullying or anything.
No it maintains mental strength.
It destroyed mine. I'm fairly unstable now. I know he's going to call me weak.
It destroyed mine. I'm fairly unstable now. I know he's going to call me weak.
:respek: I'd like to see him be bullied for a substantial amount of time, enough that most people would be left with PTS and see if he still spouts such BS
Bullying is fucked up, it makes secluded people even more so.
I don't agree with tormenting kids to the brink of fucking suicide, but I don't see whats wrong with picking on a friend.
I don't see why anyone is generalizing the effect of bullying on anyone. It's not like everyone's the same but for the most part it's detrimental, maybe in a few cases it is beneficial.
You know what? Your views are very single sided, because of this all I can say is;
FUCK YOU
I have been bullied my entire fucking school life, I barely have ever had friends, and now because of this I'm scared of every fucking thing about a person, I can't even talk to people I know. Do you know what an experience it is for me just to fucking buy something? I can't even talk to the store clerk or anything. Fuck you and you single sided views, you bastard.
As you can see bullying has had an extremely detrimental effect on this person, forcing them to dress and act like a complete mong.
yeah in all honesty, i don't see how kids can get bullied so easily. i feel like saying suck it up but ill seem like an ass. and if anyone, i'd be the most easy target at my high school since im quite the oddball. i really don't give two shits what people think of me.
You sound bitter.
actually, im really nice, sometimes i have varying opinion strengths, like i could give two shits about one things, but want to punch someone about another. and this topic really annoys me. as you can tell.
the thing is that bullying has changed a lot these days. when i was in elementary school, i was often bullied but I dealt with it. but it only happened at school, so outside of school i was fine. but now with internet, bullies can get at you at any time and place, especially with all the kiddies getting facebooks these days. i think that's why it's a problem now. cyber bullying may seem like a joke but it can get pretty bad.
i have never been bullied. are you saying that i'm not getting a "vital" aspect of life? because if so, you're fucking stupid. in fact, even saying that being bullied is vital is fucking stupid.
It's funny how I used to be bullied in middle school, I was normal as can be, and now, 11th grade, open bisexual and a trap when chances arrive, all the bullies seem to have vanished and were replaced by great friends. One time I was about to throw a punch because one of them slapped my chest and I couldn't breathe for a few seconds, but I thought about it, and lowered my fist and started crying in rage.(when I feel very nervous I start to cry, got that from my mom like most things. Luckily, and unlike my mom, I'm an extremely calm person, only these sorts of situations make me nervous)
I didn't seem to have bullying problems. I was nerdy as fuck and I only got bullied once, and it was in an average-quality high school with 1600 students (I'm in the US). The bully just cornered me with his pals and said "I'mmah give y'all a purple nurple!" And I was like "What? No." and he went away. Then I became a "popular" nerd and all the other nerds crowded around me. I don't want to sound like I'm praising myself or anything. That's just how it happened. I guess I just dealt with my problems and didn't worry about shit.
what the fuck is a purple nurple
what the fuck is a purple nurple
take persons nipple twist very very hard congratulations, you did a purple nurple
