We had 8.5" dumped on us in Mississippi and that is unheard of. Schools and colleges were out Monday and Tuesday but everything is getting back in order now even though my drive way is still covered in snow.
All of you guys saying that you wish school would close for more days, think about it. Instead of ending the school year the normal date, it has to be extended to make up those snow days. It's ok to have one or two days off here and there because of bad weather but don't wish for two weeks off; it will affect your summer break. Us people here in Pittsburgh have the day off and we have, what, four inches as well? We had a nasty blizzard last year, maybe we're all paranoid...
The school county I live in in Maryland gets snow every freaking winter upwards of a few inches and they close school just for the thought of snow that's supposed to happen in a week.
It seems here in Baltimore County that every surrounding county gets closed, but only 2 hours late here.
What's MLK day?? milk day?
martin luther king day why do we have this day anyway
Snow is pretty rare in the southern states, which is why they closed.
More like DOT can't control all the backroads in the school districts so they have to close.
so isnt that a good thing?
We had 8 inches of snow, -18 degrees. School open. And then when the wind picked up, the school closed for a few days. :scotland:
Dunno about you but where I live the school year isn't extended because of days off.
Makes sense, the teachers could just teach what they were going to today the day after.
martin luther king day why do we have this day anyway
to get out of school don't question it
heh, people were chanting 2012 prayers when it reached 2-3 inch or so here. It was during the chrismas holiday so that sucked. Almost 95% of our school cycles to school and the best thing they do here when there's lots of snow and when the roads are slippery is to allow you come max 10 minutes late.
We have fuckin three feet here in Finland, schools's never been canceled due to snow here...
1/2 meter of snow School is still open
It was 3 days out of school here for about 2 inches.
I live near Ottawa, capital of Canada. Over the course of one winter, it is not unusual to get 6 feet or more of snow here in the Ottawa valley. There have been days where it was -40 celcius before wind chill, with a blizzard so bad you can't see past a few meters... and you still had to go to school. One year, 1998 I believe, we had freezing rain in January. This caused catastrophic damage to the area: trees were falling apart (literally), power lines went down all over the place (some places were out for as long as 3 weeks), and the roads were so slick you couldn't even walk anywhere. While my house sat with no power and I had to sleep in the living room with my family and 2 dozen candles... I still went to go to school. Tl;DR Canadians are tough as fuck and don't know the meaning of "Snow day".
You have 3 days off because no one down there is used to driving on snow, so even 4 inches can lead to a colossal amount of accidents. Imagine buses full of kids skidding and crashing into each other.
Never happened to me and we have plenty of snow here.
Aww no high school = everyday is a snow day!
I live in NC too. Hoping to get school off tomorrow
I too live in NC though I doubt schools will be out. Unless the refreeze of the melting snow/ice would cause problems.
Here in NJ the school was canceled because of weather forecasts, and we only got a few inches.
Living in the north of sweden we had -20C and 1meter+ of snow just before christmas. I've never had closed schools due snow, and I've experienced plenty.
So your the type of person who would rather sit at home on facepunch all day instead of going to school and learning new material? If so, shame on you.
What is wrong with you
It seems here in Baltimore County that every surrounding county gets closed, but only 2 hours late here.
That's because Baltimore is hardcore.
Us Brits deal with it by shutting down :smug:
Who is us? My school are like freaking nazi's when it come to the weather.
another north carolinian here, i know what you mean, not like its much of a problem though :buddy:
Even the hint of any sort of snow shuts down everything here (south wales)
Figured this was going to be a Carolinian thread. A lot of folk around here haven't really figured out there's a difference between all-season treads and winter tires. Besides, people don't know how to drive in the rain; do you really want to be out there with a bunch of dumbasses in the snow?
Hahah. Living in Canada, I have never had a 'snow day' at school in my entire life. I remember my teacher telling me one day that it must be at least -50 degrees outside without the wind chill for schools to close down.
Yup, same here.
Us English deal with it by shutting down :smug:
Fixed statement.
Is this a complaint? If so, shame on you.
fucking slacker.
