Yeah, I remember wearing a 10,000 Days shirt and some idiot thought it said "fool."
Sick band, I love them and have yet to see them live. :(

Throw that bob marley wanna-be motherfucker out of here
Why isn't Opiate in the OP? Aenima is my favorite album and all the rest are on the same level of awesome as each other in my opinion.

I had an ÆNIMA shirt on, and people thought I was trying to say I was a tool. :v:
And I totally agree with you man, seeing them live would be amazing!
I've seen them live three times. :smug:
All three were very good, with the Aenima-era show being my favorite concert of theirs.

Tool has got to be one of my favourite bands of all time. I really, really (really) wan't to see them live but I haven't had the chance so far.

Oh you smug bastard. AND you got to see them Aenima-era... God dammit I'll find out where you live and shit in your oven.
Does anyone else really really like the title track on 10,000 Days? My friends all say it's boring and nothing happens in it, but I think the way it builds up an atmosphere and then unleashes it at the end is spine-tingling

Tool's great at building up atmosphere. Another great example is Third Eye. :buddy:

The sad thing about Tool is that alot of fans are complete Tools.
I do enjoy their music quite a bit though.
Three separate tracks from the latest Tool album can be assembled into a different one -- it's like Voltron, only with progressive metal songs instead of progressive metal robots (seriously, those guys had a woman pilot before most airlines). But plenty of bands do multi-part songs, so there's nothing special about it, right?
Well, the difference is that, in this case, you don't get the full song by doing something as mundane as playing one track after the other -- you get it by changing the order and playing them at the same time.
By themselves, the songs seem completely different: "10,000 Days" (11:13) is a long prog-rock number, "Wings for Marie" (6:11) is a quiet song that builds up into a crescendo, and "Viginti Tres" (5:02) is just a bunch of weird noises. 6:11 plus 5:02 adds up to 11:13 -- that's because you're supposed to put "Viginti Tres" and "Wings for Marie" together (in that order) and play them at the same time as "10,000 Days."
If that sounds too complicated for you, check out this demonstration at YouTube-Doubler. You'll notice that the weird sounds from "Viginti Tres" seem to be in sync with the melody of "10,000 Days." That demonstration doesn't include "Wings for Marie", though, which has the most impressive part: Near the end, the vocals from both songs alternate almost perfectly, forming completely different lyrics.
The band has never acknowledged any of this, but if you listen to the full song it's pretty obvious that they did this intentionally ... which is both mind-blowingly awesome and a little bit insane.
Awesome. Although the Youtube Doubler rarely starts the songs at the same second for me.

I quite a bit of their songs a lot, but they're kind of douchebags now, it shouldn't take more than a year to post an album with mostly filler tracks.

Well they haven't been working on an album much recently. I mean, Maynard's been doing that winery thing
Also "I quite a bit of their songs a lot", what
I only just listened to Undertow the entire way through last night in bed and fell asleep to it. Was a wierd experience of changing states of consciousness because I was half asleep and it was on maximum volume
I do that with music all the time, and I fell asleep to Undertow a few days ago coincidentally. Drifting back into consciousness to hear Disgustipated is very disturbing.
