Would I be able to make blank ammunition out of this.
Just a thought.

do you mean snap caps?

No I mean

The only way that would be possible and terribly inefficient would be 3d metal printing.
that is probably one of the coolest things i have seen
I want to print a life size weighted companion cube, but it'd be much too expensive I'm sure.

Those blanks I posted are made from plastic. That's why I thought there might be a shred of possibility.
How complex can we make these things?
Can we print life?
I saw a documentary on Discovery about 4 or 5 years ago, about this sort of thing. The dude printed a 3D car, and it just kinda morphed out of the printer and he was able to pick it up. I had to pick my jaw off the floor.
We've actually got one of these at my school.
I haven't printed anything on it, but I've seen some of the stuff that's come out of it. It's pretty rad.
I'll have to try to make something next semester.
My school doesn't have one of these. I feel left out. I should make a RegRap printer and print a RegRap printer for the school.

Also, I have blueprints to a bunch of model airplane kits. I should try printing one and putting it together.

sorta backwards of your request
you forgot laminated object manufacturing, which is printing with stacked sheets of paper. I know architecture stuff uses it, and one company planned to make one that uses standard 8.5x11 paper
Whoever came up with that idea, and whoever approved it is a FUCKING IDIOT.
I'll just throw these words out to make the point: Rain Forest.
I'm also saying this without knowing what the other materials for the other products comes from.

So you've never heard of recycled paper?
Also isn't the biggest threat to rain forests land-clearing for farming? I'm pretty sure that paper is a small problem in comparison.
I'd so love to print the model I made in Sculptris.
So you've never heard of recycled paper?
I have, that does not mean that everyone that uses it only buys recycled paper for it.
I'm meeting with Dr. Yang today, he's pretty big on 3D printing and hopefully he'll let me work with the printers for my individual project next year.
He had this printed - says it cost him around $500

A Menger Sponge model made by solid freeforming method FDM
There's also the RepRap and the MakerBot when it comes to making stuff, but they're not based on layering on and on.
It has this weird plastic stuff it melts to make the stuff, instead of "printing" it.
They use plastic extrusion to create layers
Gabe is "obsessed" with 3D printing, and is apparently always trying to get the rest of Valve into it as well. They have one at their office and all.
University 3D printing guy wasn't around today, gonna have to try tomorrow =/
I wish it was less expensive.

It will be in time, the first computers and the first printers were expensive as fuck too.
Make this now

Bazillion times more expensive. Given how new 3D printing is I have to say it's already pretty damn cheap, even if still expensive.
First 3d printer was 1984 I think - It's not that new, but the machines cost a bomb
I wish it was less expensive.
The RegRap printer only costs $550 to build. Really, it isn't that expensive compared to other 3D printers.
[editline]10th May 2011[/editline]
Should I build the RegRap over the summer, I'm thinking of trying to print something simple like this out and seeing if it works.

New in terms of being available for the masses then. That's what matters.
My school has a 3D printer for our Engineering classes. They charge us about $10 per cubic inch to print something, unless it's school related.
We also have a 60W laser engraver that can cut shit really fast.
Speaking of that, ideas on what I should print?
I'm guessing you have to export the file from some form of 3D modelling program into a program designed FOR the 3D printer in order to print? And if so: does this program allow you to resize the model before printing, and does it tell you how many cubic inches/centimetres/whatever it will take up?

Yeah, I miss that high school. to bad im in college now that has no engineering department. Also when did they get a laser cutter i only remeber the 3d printer.

You lucky bastard. All my school has is leaky ceilings.
