I'm not hiding anything. I'm definitely fucking scared of dying, and I'm definitely insecure about what's out there, and you should be too. :v:
I'm not afraid of dying, yet it's not a concept I would like to experience any time soon.
Instead of worrying about my future I rather worry about the present. Right now I am, being.
So I make the most of it.
Well you just hit the nail on the head, because nobody is.
Which is my damn argument in the first place. :v:

So you and me are on the exact same page.

Your brain activity ceases and "you" shutdown. It isn't hard.
And then what? Where does your consciousness go?
Nowhere.
And then what? Where does your consciousness go?
Nowhere, your consciousness is your brain.
You tell me since you stated you hoped and preferred something to happen.
I don't expect to gain from having hope. Nothing you're saying makes any sense.
Users here generalize religious people as OP do it with all facepunchers.
Also, please dont use science as argument in anti-religious posts. You cant compare science and religion. Its a matter of believe, not logical thinking.
Nowhere, your consciousness is your brain.
Can you cite your sources with facts? :v:

If someone's religion says earth is 6000 years old, and that humans walked the earth with dinosaurs, then that is a claim that conflicts with science. The whole idea of science and religion being non-overlapping things strikes me as nothing more than an attempt to avoid offending religious people.
Also, if you believe in something for fallacious reasons "I believe in X because you can't disprove X" or "I believe in X because it makes me feel good", it's more than likely that X is just simply incorrect, as it is founded on nothing more than completely baseless presuppositions with zero evidence.
And then what? Where does your consciousness go?
The same can be applied to before you were conceived, where did your consciousness come from?
If it came from someone else who died, how can the amount of people being born exceed the amount of people who dies.
If it was created, who's to say it can't be "uncreated"?
Can you cite your sources with facts? :v:
All of our higher brain functions which make us aware are in our brain. No more BRAIN -> No more BRAIN functions-> No more you
Tada
sure is ignorance in this thread
I'm not going to be an arse about it, but a lot of problems can be traced down to religion. Look into it yourself.
Also, I'm a jerk towards theists because they usually give me a reason. That said, I'm also a jerk against atheists because they give me a reason :v: Bottom line; I'm a jerk to everyone who gives me a reason. And so should you

Which only proves my point that nobody knows for sure.
It came from your brain being formed and all the components of your brain working together create "you".
Why are we disputing something science has already proven.
This was my point.
All of our higher brain functions which make us aware are in our brain. No more BRAIN -> No more BRAIN functions-> No more you

That's 100% right and I agree with you. My question is if there's something that happens to your consciousness afterwards, which nobody can answer.
Uh, yeah we do.
Your brain activity ceases and "you" shutdown. It isn't hard.
But what is "nonexistence"? You can't describe it, because to feel it would mean you wouldn't be aware of it.
Besides, it's like, as an example, a room that you are unaware what is in it. Once you see what is in it, you forget about it. So how would we ever know what is in it?
Which only proves my point that nobody knows for sure.
What do you mean? He explained it pretty logically right there.
It's called the Facepunch Mentality
1. Hate religion because it's what all the cool kids do
2. Think that because one crazy guy said something that what that crazy guy said represents what the majority believes
3. "STOP LIKING THINGS THAT I DON'T LIKE!!!!!"
What do you mean? He explained it pretty logically right there.
He explained what happens in this world completely.

Can we stop with this straw man argument already?
Yes we do. Stop thrusting your ignorance on other people.
No you don't, you may know what happens in this world, but that doesn't mean there isn't something afterwards. I'm not forcing you to accept any of my views, I'm only stating mine.

I am atheist myself. Religion is about believing, not explaining. yes, it is incorrect, but it is hard to convince truly believing people that they are wrong. I tried it myself.
Can we stop with this straw man argument already?
It does apply to a lot of Athiests, but nobody on facepunch I don't think.
Religion is not the problem, the problem is people who use it to justify things which are bad.
He explained what happens in this world completely.
Is there anything other than this world? Don't waste your life thinking you'll have eternal life after you die. In all probability, you won't.
Religion is not the problem, the problem is people who use it to justify things which are bad.
Well, please read this and say that Christanity, or at least the bible, isn't full of violence
That's 100% right and I agree with you. My question is if there's something that happens to your consciousness afterwards, which nobody can answer.
It can't be answered in the same way the existence of unicorns can't be answered. No one has evidence disproving it, but that doesn't matter because the burden of proof is on the person asserting that your consciousness continues after death.
"Matter flows from place to place and momentarily comes together to be you.

Who would have guessed Richard Dawkins had an opinion on what science said reality actually is. My opinion is that sucks, and I hope there's something more we haven't found yet.
My arguments are just being met with people who basically agree with me, and aren't seeing what I'm trying to say.
It's not that Facepunch hates religion. We just hate the people who give religions a bad name. Christianity actually doesn't condemn homosexuality, people who do that aren't Christians. They're just idiots.
Actual Christianity is based off of the New Testament, which is more about peace and forgiveness than it is about violence and killing heretics.
I, though, still stay away from religion.
