I would never think an animal like that would make noises like that,do they make those noises often/randomly? It must get a bit irritating.
I want to hug one around it's neck but I'm afraid of this happening to me:

What I can tell from the dog it might be a pyrenean mastiff, I have one too. Which I think we also had his dad before he died.
I heard Alpaca farming is really profitable. Is this true? I know they sell for 1500-3000 like you said in the OP, but how often are you able to make money from them?
we spent about 15 grand on them and should make a profit in 4-5 years.

only if you piss them off, most of the time they just make grunting or huming noises.
They look like the coolest motherfuckers to ever walk the earth. You are a brostein.

Your dog looks awesome.

Do you knit socks from their wool? Can I buy some of these alpaca wool socks?
sure, if your being serious I'll sell you some.
Thanks for making this thread, I always like to have these neat learning opportunities presented.

My grandparents have five Llamas, do you know if their behavior is anything alike (I know they certainly don't make as many sounds.) They are sweet animals, I don't go near them much though because I have seen them wreck each other's shit by slamming their heads against each other's sides. Afraid I might be a nice practice target. :v:
Llamas are allot more aggressive and larger than Alpacas. To be honest I do not know much about Llamas.
The Llamas my grandparents own are very tame, just not with each other. I've never actually seen one spit or present any kind of harmful behavior to a human. I'm simply a scaredy cat.
Do your alpacas normally graze/behave normally in the presence of people, or do they only like to do that in the company of one another? How social are they with humans? I really do envy you, I'd love to live on a property with alpacas.
Oh! How smart are they in the area of communication? You said that they are social animals, and that they do make a lot of sounds, but I imagine those evolved in more a manner suited to alpaca-alpaca communication, what I really mean is how well do they understand what you try to communicate?
Well, Princess(queen bitch) is like I said VERY grump and pushy. we have to separate her from everyone else so we stick her in the pen when we feed them their grain so she doesn't to much or eat the dog food, we have separated her for about...9 weeks now and at this point she learned that as soon as we open the pen door she walks in with out fighting, so they do learn and adapt.
they are skittish around people they don't recognize but will eat normally and just keep an eye out. they aren't really to social with people but if you sit down they will come up and sniff you. and they are always close to each other. when I chase the boys they will all stay together and try not to separate.
One last thing; How difficult would you say it is to care for alpacas? I say this in an entirely serious manner that I would like to have some one day. Assuming I could make a profit from their wool or the manure they produce, will they pay for themselves? I'm really not interested in making money off of them, but I'm still curious about the financial side (Maybe add that to the OP under business for the people interested? You being an alpaca farmer could certainly provide some important insight to those also willing to care for them.)
Again, thanks for making this thread!
holy crap that alpaca has some sort of sonic blast attack
it nearly blew my eardrums out

Couldn't he had punched it or "fooled" it and ran away?
What was the deal with the thing? D:
Also, OP, will alpacas kill you if they feel like it? They are so cute but they have that murdery look...
Do you eat the meat?
What's it taste like?
No, you do not eat the meat, not here in America anyways, down in puru it is considered a delicacy, but here it would be like eating a dog, since they all have their own personality's.

it takes about an hour every day to take care of all 9 of them so yeah they are pretty easy. I go through 1 1/2 hay bales each week and 1 bag of feed every 3 weeks. and about 3-4 5 gallon buckets of water a day. and about 10 pounds of poo a day.

they could kill a child maybe but a fully grown male I'd very much doubt it.
Question. Beyond being generally badass, what do llamas actually do?
i hear alpacas grow very ripe in the spring and mid-way through summer. is this true?
my cousin tried planting alpacas but he doesnt know jack shit about farming. the idiot planted them in the winter and they didnt grow at all
