I can't wait to see what the comparison for the 2010 vs. 2020 is going to look like.
It would be cool to have a computer that looks like the one posted on first page, but runs good enough for today's standards. :3:

Then there will be the transition of rasterized graphics to Ray tracing and there won't really be a high noticeable difference since rasterized graphics will look so close to real life. It would probably be much simpler to use Ray tracing once we have it instead of having all of these crazy light algorithms. No need for tricky unrealistic SSAO that isn't affected by light when we have actual rays of light bouncing off creating soft shadows. Graphics have barely improved since Half Life 2 was released: Doom: Half life: Unreal Tournament 2003: Half life 2: FEAR: Gears of War: Crysis: At this point graphics haven't really gotten that much better. Crysis already looks like something that could be rendered in Maya and put in a movie.

I think that the graphical department is getting rather close to real-life looking visuals. After that it's all about taking it to the next level. We are already seeing early tests like Project Natal or whatever the final name is Kinect or something.

I wish I could peek into the future like 20 years to see where technology takes us. It's a bright future indeed =)
I still have something like that. It's a fucking whore to play newer games on the 360 because they insist on making the text small on older tvs.
Worse than playing games on them (my 37 inch behemoth is starting to warp at the bottom of the picture) is moving them. I just moved my giant TV, which i'm pretty sure weighs almost 80 pounds. Also, i have a sneaking suspicion that the guys in the factory filed down the inside edge of the bottom so that it cuts your hands when you lift it's massive body. :( [editline]12:26AM[/editline] Also, why no love for AOL. Sadly i kind of miss being greeted with "YOU'VE GOT MAIL!"
Fallout 2 is better than Fallout 3. For all this great improvements in regards to graphics, we've regressed on story development in this case. I'm not denying that the general trend shows significant progress and a positive correlation between time and the advancement of technology, but I'm just making the point that it isn't necessarily positive in all regards.
Statements like this are just fucking stupid, Sure some company could have had better writers many years ago but by saying 'GAMEPLAY/STORY OVER GRAPHICS' is an even dumber statement, graphics ARE gameplay unless you would say flat geometry, untextured walls, lighting that doesn't make sense and ladders which appear as long thin blocks along a wall is better a better game because it has an IMMERSIVE STORY.
why did you an American patriot emote for a disaster that happened in France? :-/
The same reason they would emote about the holocaust, D-Day, etc. because disasters are disasters and that's that.

Also ray tracing isn't the final solution to the rendering equation.
