why is avatar on so many people's lists? it's terrible. I mean, I understand taste, but I just have a hard time understanding how someone could like that movie at all. it's the most unoriginal and highly predictable film I've even seen.

That movie visually, left me in awe. Mind you, it wasn't story line entertaining, but none the less; revolutionary.

While it isn't anywhere near my top 10, the visual effects allowed me to get drawn into such a shitty plot. It's sort of like Crysis. It'll be remembered for its incredible visuals as opposed to the storyline and other mediocre elements.
The story was original, but predictable. Still amazing. I don't see how someone could [B]not[/B] like it, just because it was predictable.

and really quite literally the same story. change native Americans to Na'vi(which are really just 10ft tall blue native Americans), change the frontier to space(another frontier) and change wounded/crippled union soldier to crippled space marine and you've got avatar.

Can't believe no ones mentioned[B] 1984[/B] It's one of the most original Big Brother premises that appears in so many other stories (HalfLife2, Brazil, Equilibrium and so on..)
I really don't see movies often so I do not have a top 10. I would say one of my favorite movies was I am Legend.
