The civic is at like 4k rpm as well at around 75mph. I could have ordered the LX transmission with longer gearing for the highway (it'd do lik 75mph at 3.5k or something,) but i just rather have short race car gearing. That way i get to wrap out the gears more often, and it helps the weak engine still feel peppy.
I live in Arlington, and I commute to Ashburn.
I do at least 75 the whole way there and back
(Until I hit the 495 traffic, then I do about 5mph)
I said the max speed, as in the speed limit. Outside of Roanoke, the speed limit on 81 is 70, so 11 over is reckless, and state troopers are very strong in Botetourt (where reckless is a jailable offence) and Salem where their barracks is. Typically about 6 over here and we start getting tickets, even in the 60 zones around Roanoke which is from about 152 to just past Salem at 138 where it goes up to 65 until 118 in Christiansburg where it goes back up to 70.
581 is watched hard by troopers and County cops going into Roanoke, where they will fluctuate and let you drive 15 over some days in the 55 or ticket you for doing 60. They're kinda wonky I guess on where their quotas are for the month.
So no, we really can't speed here much.
actually it's 73mph at 3400rpm with the EX transmission that i ordered, vs 83mph at 3400rpm with the lx transmission.
that was pretty much my point haha, I just didnt feel comfortable cruising at high rpm for extended periods of time. also the speed limit thing, red car with a 3 inch exhaust meant screaming down the freeway at 80 is a bad idea.
I feel ya there. Stock exhaust, but my Charger still cruises down 81 doing 75 at 2.5k generally, which for the exhaust is right on the threshold where it stays quiet and subtle, or starts to get groany if you put your big toe down just a tick too hard.
My accord is at like 2800 at 70 lol
Exactly 2500 at 65
[editline]11th December 2014[/editline]
Half of my commute is a 70mph zone, the other half is 60mph.
Bad tires pull, badly balanced/bent wheels vibrate. I took my vibrations down to about 10% what they were by replacing my wheels and tires with new/unbent tires and wheels along with a good alignment with new tierods.
The tach is off on the miata, and my civic doesn't have a tach, but I hardly take the civic past 75. 80 sounds like I'm killing it. 80 in the miata sounded much better. (and having a 5th gear is nice, civic is a 4 speed)

That's awful I feel bad for you.
Wow getting tickets for going over the speed limit what a travesty
10 km/h over speedlimit is normal here, after that cops might get interested.
I think speed cameras trigger from speedlimit+3km/h, but only +8km/h and over will be fined. Otherwise they just send you a warning letter.
Then again police have had their budget cuts so much you rarely see them in traffic so you can pretty much do 70-90mph in the back roads with 50mph limit
I speed all the time and never get pulled over. I'm just sensible in how much and when I do it. I regularly go 20+ over on my way to work though. :v: I once ran a red light right behind a cop too, no he didn't have his lights on, the light changed as we both went through it.
Even though the speed limit on the saw mill parkway is like 55mph, you arent with the flow of traffic until you are going 80mph
I only ever hear this mentality from Americans, never hear it over here
We don't have speed cameras every mile fining us for 1 over the limit.
this is a part of the m6 where every gantry (you will pass one every 60 seconds) has average speed cameras and if you speed for 2 or so junctions you are plain old fucked

Conversely though I often drive on the M50 which (For the stretch I drive on at least) seems to have no cameras, no police presence and fairly rarely even any other drivers, it's great.

I also got a new car, a 2006 Fiat Panda active, 54hp rampant italian horses baby.

yeah some motorways you can speed all you want, m6 toll is good for speeding as the road is smooth, 0 highway patrol and 0 speed cameras, but you gotta pay obv
the m6 is probably one of the worst motorways along with the M25
I got up to 100mph (The top speed of my car is 94mph oh yeah) once on the M5 but it felt like my car was having a panic attack so I stopped that fairly sharpish. That was at night though when everyone increases there speed by at least 10mph by my experience.
I just don't understand how someone could live with less than 100hp.
because a fiat panda weighs like 20kg so you dont actually need that much power to get it to a reasonable speed?? plus its a city car really, and for fuel economy, and low road tax

not every car is a 300000ton crown vic
I just don't understand how someone could live with less than 100hp.
It's all about the weight of the car and actual power, we just swapped the 70hp 8 valve motor into a sedan and it's slow as all hell but will happily cruise down the freeways at any speed you want. You just have to give it everything to accelerate.
90-95hp in a 2000lbs car is adequate for what it is and is plenty to spin the tires more than my 140hp 2700lbs Integra, the 70hp 2300lbs Civic sedan with the most silly longest geared Honda transmission ever however refuses to spin tires at all ever and instead slips the clutch hard.
It all depends on what the purpose of the car is, I'd happily drive that sedan long distance and we just might today. It's not engaging to drive but it DD's amazingly with 50mpg possible in it's original CX hatch trim. My 95hp wonder hatch however is pretty damn fun to beat the piss out of as it feels like it just wants you to get on it everywhere otherwise it's pretty slow.
Although to think about it you're probably talking more about less than 100 and not more near to, it really depends all on the gearing, weight and how far it really is from 100hp.

Like has been said before, the price of fuel and insurance makes it really difficult for a person under the age of 20 or so to drive a larger car in the UK.
It is slow as fuck though. Luckily the car I'm planning on getting next may have as much as 100hp!

I get what you're saying, but lesbihonest here. I could have an adult go-kart that weighs 150 lbs and I would STILL want to put something with at least 150 hp in it......

The Saw Mill Parkway is an awful road to drive on. My parents, who both have lead feet refuse to drive on that road. I also won't drive on it because that road is bonkers.
So I got a new car

Chevrolet S10 4.3 Vortec but with some other crankshaft. Pulls like a fucking beast.
4x4, high KM but kept in good shape in the drivetrain/brake.
Front fenders need to be changed and some minor cosmetic rust on the bed.
Still a good buy here in Sweden for 1100$ Taxed and all clear to go until next autum.

Helped my mate move, with this wagon fully loaded with furniture, and the bed loaded with various crap. Still pulled like a beast upphill.
[editline]14th December 2014[/editline]
Also. Dads wreck "cadillac" behind my beast.

You do realize that a Hayabusa makes just over 150hp right.
But imagine how much better it could be with 170 horsepower. Or 190. 'Tis the nature of the gearhead, always demands more power and more handling. We can't ever settle for 'just' 150 horsepower.

my last car had 175 hp and i hated how slow it was, enjoying 286 bhp right nao

I speed all the time through the variable speed limits on the M1 near London (unless it's at 50 or 40, can almost guarantee a queue is ahead at that point), never been caught by cameras even though there's a camera sign at every gantry
[editline]14th December 2014[/editline]
It's either speed in the fast lane, or get stuck behind the lorries in lane 1 and 2
