I've had a plan in the back of my head for the longest time to toss a few bags in the back of my Integra and drive all the way to Socal via 101 to 1 all the way. I've been up through the top half of 101(in oregon) all the way up to about Aberdeen, WA but never much of the south half of 101. From what I could tell is probably infinitely better as far as the highway like I-5 is with the north half being insanely boring and the bottom half being far more interesting and beautiful. I'd expect it would roughly be a 3 day drive down and 2 back. I'm unsure how my car would even fair as a rebuild is in it's future and a distributor is likely in it's near future too.
Would be pretty fun to camp at the state parks on the way down when possible, my only real requirement is a daily shower and not sleeping in the car but many parks have showers anyways.
yeah, south 1 is so beautiful, especially around big sur.

You should do it. It would be fun.
Once (if?) I put the factory seat back in, I wouldn't mind doing some light-duty touring in the Miata. Maybe Hwy 1 to LA or something.
We had a fun night. Or I did at least; only thing that went wrong for me was my headlight burnt out.

Friend slid into a tree at ~15mph and wound up tweaking his front frame rails a bit, note that the bumper is about 1-2 inches to the drivers side now.
Video sometime.

Oh and the kid who rear ended the other kid also hit a baby deer at ~30mph on the way home.
Did he at least make deer burgers?
No. Sadly it broke or injured a leg and hobbled off into the woods.
Now I am going to cry myself to sleep tonight. Thanks.

You should really get a roll cage.
You should really get a roll cage.
its expensive
its expensive
Not worth preventing yourself being crushed?
No. Sadly it broke or injured a leg and hobbled off into the woods.
This is why you always carry a firearm. You could have put the poor thing out of its misery AND gotten some delicious meat...
I wasn't about to chase a fawn into the woods at 4am in 20 degree weather to kill it.
If it had been down and injured yes I would have, don't need a gun can just use a knife.
I personally would have, tbh. If I'd hit it, I genuinely wouldn't be able to carry on driving home knowing that poor thing is going to be suffering for days before eventually dying. Ah well, what's done is done. At least you would have done the right thing if it didn't run.
its expensive
But then how can you go to a track day bro?
Not worth preventing yourself being crushed?

You should really get a roll cage.
If its just a road car it really shouldn't have a roll bar. If you get in a fender bender it is common that the driver or passenger hits his head on the roll bar and can cause more damage. If you don't regularly drive wearing a helmet I really wouldn't recommend it. Not to mention it is really hard to flip a miata.

This is why there's a large market for roll bar padding—you're supposed to do it

Roll bars kinda save your life if you flip the car.
maybe he's not in to flipping his car though

Yes this is true, if you have a roll bar you should definitely have padding on it, but I know plenty of people that have been injured by their roll bar in a crash and all of them had padding on their roll bars.
Roll bars kinda save your life if you flip the car.
I'm not saying that roll bars don't save your life. I'm just saying that rolling your car, especially a miata, is extremely uncommon compared to getting any other crash and if you do get a roll bar you should know that it is possible to get a severe injury from hitting your head on the roll bar.
You're really not supposed to be in a caged vehicle without a helmet and then the cage must be properly padded to prevent cracking the helmet and your head. If you're running an aftermarket seat and harnesses you must also have a properly designed harness bar to keep you properly restrained safely in your seat.
Rear bars or bracing situated away from the drivers don't require any of that as long as they aren't located near another passenger. A common alternative to a cage in a hatchback chassis honda is to do a X bar which you can pick up a decent quality knockoff for $300. Of course these don't really provide crash protection but it depends on your purpose for it but along with a good harness bar brace, your chassis should be damn stiff.

Cages are for a track car, you don't drive on the street with a caged vehicle really.
You do if you're a tool lol
Or you're just really bad ass all the time
