I feel like the way I edit my photo's makes them look a bit bland.
Heres an example, Something about it makes it look really flat and boring to me, can somebody give me a few editing tips so it doing look so boring, or is it just a bad picture? I dont know.

what's the subject?
The stairs / rail
I also took this, im happier with this one

that one's better, but I still can't tell what the subject is - my eye is naturally drawn to the orange panelling and then the red graphic, but netither of them seem to be presented in a way that makes them look like the subject, which just leads to my eye wandering over the piece and not really seeing anything
I guess I dont really think much about subject when taking this kind of photo, I just liked the look of the area and took a photo.

anyone have tips on how to straighten photos?
the straighten tool in adobe
So does the fact my photo doesnt have a clear subject make it a bad photo? sorry if im sounding really dumb here but I liked that photo and this whole subject thing has threw me off. I Understand what a subject is, but I just wanted to take a photo of that entire place, so was there something I did wrong. im confused...
well you wanted to take a descriptive photo of the place for memorys sake im guessing, but theres nothing about the photo that makes it interesting to other people, your image doesn't 'say' anything, contextually or really aesthetically. It means more to you that it does to us.
keep shootin

Got a 70-300, obligatory bird shots incoming
mostly cropped out the ass unfortunately, but I plan on making a bird table to attract small birds to and figuring out some kind of hide so I can get super close

good work dude, nice tones in the non bird pics
i think the fourm is subconsciously pressuring me to take more verticals, because they fit better than landscapes.
Fit better? Do you have your monitor oriented portrait-wise? :v:

The second photo you posted works because there is a lin for your eye to follow, while it's not the usual left-right it still works, you've got the rail connecting to patches of red and that gives the eye something to read.
The first straight on shot had nothing for your eye to really follow or look at other than just wonder around the image.
IMO you don't really need a definitive subject as such, just something to follow.

Don't base your posts on what you think we will like, just post what you like.

We don't see enough wildlife stuff in this forum. Please continue, Winstonn.

Well, I browse on my phone a lot, and that cuts the right side of the image off, and my tiny laptop does the same thing. Also, because one scrolls down through a set, a vertical flows much better. More image is revealed, because it takes longer to scroll through.
50% of the time the af on my camera will decide to focus on the closest thing in frame or something that isn't in frame at all, rather than the central af point which I've manually set as the only af point. What gives? What's annoying is I don't notice the focus is off until I get the images up on my computer
af fine tune issues?
I don't think so since it works fine the other half of the time
I'll try taking off the lens and cleaning the contacts, see if that helps
[editline]7th April 2014[/editline]
It's like the af is scared to properly focus on anything more than 6m away, but it's always ok with close subjects
[editline]7th April 2014[/editline]
Here's an example- http://i.imgur.com/1FmUt5H.jpg
the set af point was over the seafront buildings yet the focus is somewhere out the bottom of the frame
i think the fourm is subconsciously pressuring me to take more verticals, because they fit better than landscapes.
Shooting vertical is just a contemporary thing in reaction to vertical screens (smart phones, tablets) being a major way of consuming content.
