That was created in camera with the lens. No Photoshop. All that was done was a couple of tweaks in Lightroom.

I'm not feeling these, man. Making everything sepia and shallow dof isn't all there is to tintypes. If you want to try and fake something like this you really should spend a long time studying the medium and maybe even take a few real ones.

If you look at the full size images, you will see that I took great care in recreating the look...and I'm super proud of the preset that resulted from it. I made sure things are ridiculously sharp and have a bit of that high-contrast look, plus, in camera I focused mainly on the eyes.

Anyway, thank you kindly for your feedback. I am planning on taking some true tintypes this summer...I'll let you know how that turns out. :)

Having viewed a lot of tintypes in person and having done a workshop at PhotoboothSF where I was very intimate with the developing process of more than a few tintypes I can tell you that you're wrong. Your pictures are lacking the contrast of real ones and in general feel muddy in comparison.

I'm not trying to be an ass or anything, but if you're going to tell me I didn't look at the "full size images" and that you took great care in recreating the look then I'm going to call you out on it. Please take this as legitimate constructive criticism when I say this: Your pictures don't look like tintypes, they look like very obvious fakes.

dude you need to lose that victim complex, someone is offering you friendly constructive advice and because you can't accept that you're 'wrong/not the best/didn't get it right first time' then you feel victimised by his constructive advice.

nobody is picking on you dude. We're not high schoolers trying to get a rise out of anyone, we're a friendly part of this forum who is keen to see anyone improve, and people tell the truth and give their honest opinions and that is something that we all value so that we can all improve and mature photographically.
