I don't know what to say about brightness...they look bright enough to me....my screen may not be calibrated...but I haven't had problems with it in the past... :/
mate they're at least 2 stops underexposed.
As for focal lengths, I'm a poor college student, so I can only afford the nifty-fifty and vintage lenses (I used a vintage 50mm in these shots). I was kinda hoping people would complement me on the colors because I just learned how to use curves, haah...
didn't your camera come with a kit lens?
It's cool that you're learning curves and shit mate, keep at it for sure. Could i see some original RAW files or something for comparison?

I was already at 1/100 or 1/200 and I didn't want to go much lower than that...it was really shaded and my flash wasn't working. :/

For sure! Want me to put them on Flickr?

you were using ISO 100, just bump it up a bit
you were using ISO 100, just bump it up a bit
I know, I know. It's just that the T2i is really, really noisy at even 400.

You can shoot slower than that mate, I shoot at 1/60 - 1/30 all the time. And you can also bump the ISO up pretty high on a T2i without much noise (also, noise isn't such a bad thing pal).
Definitely post some originals, I wanna play with them haha

If you're got somewhat steady hands, and your subjects aren't moving around, you should be able to go down to 1/20 or so. I can usually go down to 1/10 before I start noticing the blur.

the 550D can go up to 1600 without much problem:
1600 on a 600D:

a lil bit of camera raw noise reduction and it's no issue! original

If you want the actual raw files, how should I get them to you?
600D and 550D are basically the same camera, you shouldn't have an issue with noise.

And yet, I do. :/
I really have no clue what's up with my T2i. I can barely, barely shoot video on it...

I've tried troubleshooting this problem on several occasions, and nothing works -- I start shooting video, everything is fine, everything is stable. Then, all of a sudden, a little bar pops up on the side of the screen and when it reaches the top, the camera just stops recording and says "video recording has been stopped automatically." And yes, I have tried several different types of memory cards, even the super fast ones.

why do you make your shadows so dark? bring them up. if you're going to keep them there, don't have that guy on the left in frame, it's distracting
clipped shadows like that dont really work for things apart from portaits imo tbh

this used to happen w/ my T3i! magic lantern has an "automatically resume recording when stopped" feature that works like a charm. never turned it off since :D
strange, that shouldn't happen with a good SD card. unless you're hitting a recording limit imposed for tax reasons or whatever (usually 20-30min)

recording limit is cos single file cannot be bigger than 4gb in fat
recording limit is cos single file cannot be bigger than 4gb in fat
newer cameras split at 4gb but keep recording until 29 min

I like clipped shadows...it gives it a filmic look. And, I want these photos to kind of look like artsy snapshots.
Ah, shit, who am I kidding I'm a frigging hipster. :suicide:

Why do you get nice clean photos and I get purple lines? No fair! D:

if you want your photos to look like film, for the dynamic range, highlight roll off and GRAIN then actually shoot film. clipped shadows are not a "natural" part of film: they are a byproduct of processing and post processing.

Eh, grain...I like smooth photos. Just part of the aesthetic, I think.
Also, I'm a poor college student, so shooting film is out of the question right now. :suicide:

So... You want them to look bad?
