I like clipped shadows...it gives it a filmic look. And, I want these photos to kind of look like artsy snapshots. Ah, shit, who am I kidding I'm a frigging hipster. :suicide: [editline]8th June 2014[/editline] Why do you get nice clean photos and I get purple lines? No fair! D:
The first part of your post really belittles what we do here. I'm not trying to be a dick to you I'm just saying that many of us take photographs seriously and using a phrases like "artsy snapshot" or "frigging hipster" casts you in a negative light. It's like anything, it comes with time and practice mate. I personally have been shooting for about 3 years and using image manipulation software for roughly 6 years. Just keep at it and you'll learn more and more techniques.

And, I mean no offensive -- I am a hipster. I listen to indie bands and all that jazz. Jesus...I hate myself sometimes. :suicide:
Eh, grain...I like smooth photos. Just part of the aesthetic, I think. Also, I'm a poor college student, so shooting film is out of the question right now. :suicide:
You could get a sweet film setup including a good body, lenses and film for less than $100 - film is, for the most part, cheaper than digital.

those last few pages... wow everyone here is getting really really fucking good at taking pictures

I started on film. The first thing we learned in my photo class was about exposure. I just constantly shoot at ISO 100, for reasons I don't want to explain. EDIT:
where do you live? i'm sure there's a cvs or costco near you which will do it for a couple of bucks - their scans are shit but i'm sure you can get a decent scanner in time
There is a CVS near me that develops film for...about $30-$40 bucks a pop. That ain't cheap.
If you're got somewhat steady hands, and your subjects aren't moving around, you should be able to go down to 1/20 or so. just had a small thunderstorm
What do you mean "which CVS?" It's...It's a CVS. And it's ridiculously overpriced.
What do you mean "which CVS?" It's...It's a CVS. And it's ridiculously overpriced.
i was going to phone up and ask how much they charge for a dev + cd how about costco, that's $1.50 a roll
Dude, I've been shooting for...five years. I'm just digressing and getting worse at this point. I might as well stop. And, I mean no offensive -- I am a hipster. Maybe you should stop trying to fit the hipster bill and instead focus on what makes a good picture? Stop 'experimenting' and shoot some photos.
i was going to phone up and ask how much they charge for a dev + cd how about costco, that's $1.50 a roll
There are zero Costcos around my town or anywhere near me. :/
I just constantly shoot at ISO 100, for reasons I don't want to explain.
??? why so mysterious
allergic to noise
??? why so mysterious
because hipster [editline]8th June 2014[/editline] Photo31_30 by skoinks, on Flickr Photo13_12 by skoinks, on Flickr
Noise isn't a bad thing, if you remove the colour noise from it using the slider in lightroom it looks a bit like film grain and looks a lot nicer generally
is it normal for lightroom to nip color noise in the bud the second i import? I'm not complaining
is it normal for lightroom to nip color noise in the bud the second i import? I'm not complaining
It does a bit automatically but for noiser images it needs to be bumped up a bit to get rid of all the colour noise
What do you mean "which CVS?" It's...It's a CVS. Things in my town are just generally expensive... :/ Wish some of you lived closer to NY, we could totally go on a photo-adventure. And I could show you guys how crazy expensive my CVS is. :v
if you live in NY, theres plenty of in state places you can mail rolls to for less than $30
I just constantly shoot at ISO 100, for reasons I don't want to explain
you're only limiting your potential like this. stop worrying about grains, even ISO 100 has grains when you go and pixel peep
i find adding grain in post has a kind of masking effect to the digital noise, on top of removing colour noise in LR
you're only limiting your potential like this. stop worrying about grains, even ISO 100 has grains when you go and pixel peep
Oh gee! In my 5 years of photographing, I NEVER thought to pixel-peep! In fact, I was so sure that digital images did not have any noise and in fact were comprised of fairy dust! :|
look we know you want help here but what's the point in being so stubborn and secretive
look we know you want help here but what's the point in being so stubborn and secretive
Who said I wanted help? I just want some cc on my images, not to be attacked for slightly underexposing an image, or shadow-clipping. It's a wonder why I'm so secretive...
this is cc. we aren't attacking you at all, you're just acting defensive for some reason
