The airport in my city closed and I see maybe one plane a week, so I'm sure it'd be fine

As a general rule of thumb: Don't point them at a plane (or anywhere near), and don't even touch them around airports. Otherwise you can get hefty fines and even prison time in some countries, including most european countries and the US.

mine's the n9000 but it's basically the same minus one aperture setting and the lead weight in the base
