With images like that I always felt the context beats the content
With images like that I always felt the context beats the content
Yeah, if I'd take a picture of Obama punching Putin in the face with a early 21th century nokia phone it'd be a pretty interesting photo even if it'd suck ass otherwise
Strange how such 'terrible photographers' managed to take some of the most important photos ever.
:v:
Why are you using polemics instead of real arguments?
Because there is no real argument taking place. It's banter.

Who's arguing what, exactly?

Saturn V says the composition could be better, Biscuit Boy agrees , you replied with a stupid image makro strawman argument and a condescending "you'll grow dude it's art " type post(that's where the banter started by the way).
Trogdon makes a nice post about why he disagrees, I make a post about why I think Trogdon is wrong and Saturn V/BiscuitBoy have a point and then people started "i don't understand" and "i disagree" instead of argueing or pointing out what they don't understand/disagree with and that's where the banter continues with your posts.
And now you're even asking "who's argueing what". So basically you didn't even follow the page and just shitposted. Great.
I completely and wholeheartedly disagree with you here.
Why?
knowing debating terms and long words isn't going to get you anywhere here
get to the point

:(
I just did. You're the guys devolving this into a meta-debate instead of responding to the points I made in http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1266844&p=45541626&viewfull=1#post45541626
People say they disagree but with exception to Trogdon there wasn't a single post where someone tried to raise a point.
Make a point instead of image macros, "you'll eventually get it, it's *art* and "i disagree" and we will not have to use long words and debating terms.
We could actually have a good discussion.
To the previous three posters;
There's so little content to your pictures, could you guys tell me as the creator of these images, what is interesting about them to you? Why do you think these images are interesting to other people?
As an fyi to those relevant when i pose this kind of question, the motive of my actions is to subtly challenge you to view your own images from another perspective, devoid of emotional connection to the image (something a lot of you seem to have a hard time doing). The emotional connection may be there for you because the moment you took it in was a fond memory for you, the context contains something or someone you're very fond of, or simply your emotional connection to the image is due to the fact that you took it.
Regarding those three pictures i was mentioning, i personally don't think there was anything special about them to me as someone viewing them objectively. I want you guys to challenge yourself regarding your opinion of the quality of the content you're posting and how much you think that your picture will mean and be received by others, so that you can cull the boring stuff and understand what makes a good image on average, and to strive for it.
I never say anything to spite, undermine or to put down others in all aspects of life, and especially on this sub-forum. Everything that i say in regarding to my constructive criticism of others is with the intention to the best of my ability to benefit and promote progress in our community.

I think a camera malfunction.. but I like the way it scanned. Looks atmospheric but was actually on a sunny day.

Man I thought it was an attempt at star photography where the trees either swayed a lot or camera was unsteady.

I'm noticing that other people seem to dislike my photos that I actually set up for and make stuff for a lot more often than stuff I don't really plan out. I dunno if that's because I'm secretly super boring or if I have no idea what I'm doing. :v: Probably a lot of both.
I do really appreciate the feedback though, definitely stuff I'll think about from now on.

You could spend a whole day making a boring photo but catch an interesting one in 1/500th of a second. I guess when someone sees your photo they won't necessarily see the work behind it - the only reference they have is the image. It's up to you to decide whether or not it's worth looking at.

I think this looks pretty cool, although the highlights at the top seem pretty blown out and kind of distracting.
Kind of nitpicking this one and not really something you could have done anything about but I wish the rowers wouldn't blend in with the land in the background

Yeah, I should really shoot raw, but I just don't have the hard drive space for it right now. :c
I suppose I could've stood up, but I probably would've ended up in the water.

totally wrong to do this, but I'm not a photojournalist so whatever, just for the sake of seeing how it'd look.

Looks a lot better. And that white-ish line in the background in the ground makes it kind of looks as if there's a road going through, which I think looks quite neat.
[editline]
[/editline]
Actually, that looks like it is actually a road there. At first I thought it was just you moving stuff around in photoshop and making a slight mistake.

It's a railroad track. Would've been neat if a train had been going through!

But why should I take pictures of things I don't like? It's like forcing oneself to like/practice a certain type of music that you don't like. I've tried other types of photography, and this is what I like the most, with concept photography coming a close second.
I like pictures that are well composed and have geometric patterns with a dash of lights/shadows and some humans for scale/organics and good processing. I leave all these photo-documentation thingys to journalistic photographers/newspaper photogs instead, since they not only have the equipment but also the balls to cover major crisis' and other big events. I usually don't care if you went out with your friends to drink beer in the park or sitting in a car with your analog camera.
I'm not a photographer, but a creative person that uses a camera for instant paintings, when I feel for it.
