Those are a couple of the best I've seen from you.
Those are a couple of the best I've seen from you.
thanks dude, that means a lot to me. especially coming from you.
also because you've been around ever since i started posting here ages ago, while i was rocking the sony a230, so you've probably seen quite a few of my photos by now :v:
Saying that, Before I even got my camera (Nearlly 2 months ago) I had a long look through /B/rothers Flikr (and the occasional flick through this same thread). I gotta say, It drove me to actually get involved in photography. No word of a lie :v:
you guys are great, i gotta post some more around here!

Yeah, haha, thanks, that means a lot to me as well. I check this thread so much, it's a source of inspiration for me, and I'm always happy to see your photos. I've learned so much looking at everyone's photographs over the years.

cc on this, not sure on the colour?
its a little warm in my opinion, but i digg the ruthless crop and the harsh lighting.
I am relatively new to taking pictures with a DSLR (Still practicing manual focus and adjusting settings) and was hoping you guys could give me some useful tips or point me to a good tutorial site or youtube channel.
I am using an old Canon rebel XT. Right now I have a UV and polarizing filter, a 18-55mm kit lens, a 35-80mm, and a 75-300mm they are all used but seem to be in good condition.
Here are some sample shots I have taken so far:

[t]http://i.imgur.com/4IC1vnS.jpg[/t]
[t]http://i.imgur.com/x8Mlexq.jpg[/t]
A few questions:
1) What additional gear would you recommend for someone starting out?
2) Any editing/general advice to make the subject stand out more?
3) What are the benefits of shooting in RAW/JPEG, is it worth shooting both?
4) Any tips that would help when photographing in cloudy conditions or in wooded areas?
I'm not an expert on how to take good pictures but RAW is a thousand times better for post process editing, changing the temperature of your photos, colours and fixing exposures, black and whites .etc. Shoot one or the other in my opinion, I always shoot RAW
Highly recommend avoiding using the 35-80mm if possible. Really not a good lens at all, the 18-55 will be much better. Other than that your gear is good for now, just keep shooting!

I rarely use it, I just was not impressed with it. I alternate between the kit lens (Frog and warbler) and the 300mm (Hummingbird).
Hey guys, haven't been around in a while. Got a good bit of new stuff here that I think you guys may like. Critique is always welcome!

13 days in Gaza Strip, a place I'd like to call the Israeli Afghanistan. A place to urbanely-prepared, fine-tuned for soldiers to step in and lose their lives. Clay-mores, wired-doors, underground tunnels under the entire city, snipers waiting days for us to step in the right alley and get a bullet between our eyes. I'm not right winged, even Left-winged, but after this experience I think I see stuff differently.
My name's Chuck, Israeli soldier, Ex-Egoz Spec-op soldier and now Infantry photographer. My job is strict journalism, I bring what I see. I follow the laws and ethics of journalism and bring the entire picture as it is, unbiased. Gaza thought me that the enemy we fight isn't just evil, it's Have-Rockets-Shoot-out-of-a-Girls-Only-School kind of evil. It's the kind of Have-Tunnels-Under-UNRWA-Hospital and then blame us for destroying that place, just for the media to praise their innocence and our guilt.
I lost two friends, a commander, and collected the pieces of a fallen comrade who lost his life to a direct missile hit.
Fuck this war.
