• How do you get over anxiety for talking on mic

First off, I don't have any issues talking with friends in life or over the internet on something like skype. It's talking to other people who I don't know or have never met that makes me a bit uneasy. I don't have this problem in real life, I can't talk to complete strangers without much problem. It's like I get very uneasy, and uncomfortable and become super quiet and without much to say even if I have a big opinion on the particular subject of discussion. I don't have this issue in the real world. Why do I have it on the internet? How does someone go from hardly using a microphone to using one to speak with friends and their friends (and/or of friends) without any anxiety? Most of these people would be complete strangers to me. I'm asking because I want to create a youtube video describing a project of mine, but I don't want my mind reverting me back to the week I hit puberty and haven't my voice crack or just disappear. That would be hilarious but awkward as fuck. I know I could edit each frame with text but that's really lame for a description video.
practice over and over until you're comfortable, or do the video with a friend
I've found that your voice sounds deeper through a mic. At least, mine did, if that's your problem If it's just nerves then it's like anything, you just need to take the plunge I guess
Go into a game and practice talking a lot of shit to people think about the fact that you don't know any of them, and will probably never see them, so why do you care what they think
Best thing I can say is wing it. If you can muster up the courage to basically say "Fuck it" and go on with mic talking, it will be much easier.
Funny how this is the exact opposite with most people. Just be yourself and don't worry about what other people think. Most people on youtube these days are out to be trolls and flame you, so that comes with the territory. If you think you are going to choke on what you are describing, write it down and read from the script. Just remember no one knows who you are on the internet so it doesn't really matter in the first place! If you have trouble, maybe try practicing in the mirror for some loosening up.

It sounds a lot more high pitched. It's rather annoying. Although, I don't mind talking over the mic, but, it gets tiresome after an hour or two.
The weird thing is, I used to work as a CSR at T-Mobile for quite a long time and it never bothered me then when customers would call in. And some of those calls were incredibly awkward and still never bothered me. Once, this lady called in because her internet package wasn't working and I swear I heard her husband or boyfriend in the background plowing her... Bed and everything was squeaking. :suicide:
Just be yourself tbh
Unfortunately in all my live of battling social anxiety the only solution that is tried and tested is to do it over and over and over again until it feels natural. It's literally the only way to get over being anxious about doing things, practice doing it repeatedly - in your mind if need be - until you can do it fine.

(If you have it) BF3 works great for this. Just direct your squad to do things (go left, get in the vehicle, snipe the guy in front of us, repair the tank, etc) it should improve from there on.
There's no other way to make yourself more comfortable talking to strangers over mic other than, well, talk to strangers over mic. I suggest you to hop into some tf2/dota/cs/whatever and start saying something on mic. And I mean anything, whatever comes to your mind. Tell a joke in a funny voice, ask stupid questions like "Guys, guys, how do I implode a banana" in a serious voice, try to make a conversation in medieval english, just try to screw around (but don't do it in an annoying way). People will respond, and mostly they'll be friendly. Heck, if someone tries to be rude to you just loudly say "Fuck you" and move on. At first you will be anxious, you might stutter, but over time the anxiety will go away, and talking to strangers over mic won't be scary at all.

Go on a server/chatroom with a friend who talks a lot and is used to talking with strangers. You can join in on the conversation, etc. If he's a good friend he'll try to include you in the conversation, anyways.
I can talk to other people once I warm up to the conversation but as soon as I hear an echo of my own voice I think to myself "Oh god that's what I sound like?"
just remind everyone else that they sound like shit too

I Had the Same Problem as you seem to Have. 1 tip: Practice on anything else other than A hardcore Role play Server.
As soon as you do it once, it'll be much easier afterwards. This is how it was for me atleast.
practice singing the whistle stop to your friends
If you seriously have a problem with anxiety and being nervous over a microphone while talking to strangers, you may have lots of issues with your social life. [editline]27th August 2013[/editline] Christ, that wasn't supposed to sound rude, but oh well.
vocaroo.com Please post a sample, it can be anything you want, even this post. Also, please state your age.
Join a random Teamspeak or something, and say some weird shit to everyone. Alternatively, go on a game like Project Reality or some MOBA, and just talk to the team.
Don't be self-conscious, everybody thinks they sound like shit.
Shout abuse until you stop caring.
Talk like an asshole.

Don't think about it; just talk.
