I don't want to sound pretentious, but Prog is entirely about the song writing, progressive music is called progressive because the way it is written is through the progression of ideas rather than verse, chorus, verse structure like in pop and other forms of music. Several prog bands happen to be very technical and half the time it is unnecessary, but good prog is all about the writing.
i suppose, but the primary problem with a lot of prog bands is that the writing is crap
which is not at all true with your song, i was just expressing a qualm with the word progressive rock
and speaking of the verse, chorus, verse structure, almost any porcupine tree song worth hearing has that structure anyway so it should come from melody and rhythm, your band seems almost uncomfortable with anything besides alternate rock beats so i would suggest healthy doses of funk and jazz to combat that
im sorry this sorta sucks

True that, prog has lost its way a bit in recent years. And they do use the verse chorus structure, our song uses it, but it's used in a way so that every part has an overarching idea theme or feel, not just 2 sections put onto each other.

[Sarcasm]Thanks, that was very helpful and constructive.[/Sarcasm]
Why don't you like it?

I rated you funny before realising you weren't trolling. Unless you are, in which case, well played. Then again, with an avatar that has a ridiculously generic hardcore logo in it I really shouldn't have expected any intelligent criticism from you.

I don't think you quite understand what "constructive feedback" means. If you don't like it give ways you think it could be improved, otherwise don't just come in here and tell me my music sucks. I'd like to see you do better.
Anyway, getting back on topic would be nice.

Hnnnngh never use that when responding to critics, be they stupid or not

True, re-reading that post, I sound a bit stupid myself in the end
same that was fucking retarded seeing as we have both done much better many times how about you hack something useful and hack your cock off so you never reproduce
That was... odd.
Also, 1000th post!

Please leave.
Instruments sound great.
This Golden Garden Gnome guy is really the asshole Facepunch needs for us to laugh at his shitness.
Alright it's been a few months, but for those of you that care here's an update on how things are going.
First of all we finally have a permanent keyboardist, it's a gurl. So now we're hip apparently.
We've played a couple of gigs, mostly local BOTBs and the like, it's been going pretty well. We came second in 2 of them. Taken down by my and the other guitarist's stage presence I think, but we're getting better. I'll have a couple of videos from one of those later on in the post.
We've also started recording a demo, it's been somewhat hindered by my 2 month holiday overseas, but the guys seem to be getting things done. We've got a video of Zak recording the drum parts for one of the songs (our new live arrangement of Intermelocity with the ending section of Octavarium tacked on the end) along with some pretty horrible scratch vocals I recorded for the Octavarium section before I left because Ashley thought he would like me to be embarrassed I suppose.
The demo will probably consist of a 7-8 minute song we've played live a couple of times, but you guys won't have heard, lyrics are still up in the air so it has been named Face for now. A soft acoustic driven song that I'm writing that's only just started to take shape, so no time estimate. And Intermelocity. So while that seems tiny, it should be between 20 minutes and half an hour of stuff, which isn't bad.
The album that we've planned is coming along. Slowly. But it's coming along. We've extended Liquid Kitten, added a 3rd and 4th part to the song suite started with LK and Medicated, and tentatively started writing the 5th track. As well as some basic ideas for the last couple of tracks. So far we have about 40 minutes of music along with another 10-15 of raw ideas.
Now, videos. First of all, the good live videos, unfortunately these are just one static shot as we couldn't find the second camera which was moving around, but we have a proper live mix of the set over the top rather than the shitty cam mic like in the one further down. First video is the extended version of LK, Medicated and the third part of the suite which we have called Personality Lapse for now. The 4th part, Haze, wasn't finished in time for this gig, so we played a song in a similar style, which was Demon of The Fall by Opeth, which is in the second video.
Please excuse the keys in Personality Lapse, Liz only had 4 days to learn every part, so given that I think she did a great job. And the growls in Demon aren't great as Ashley had a cold.

Here is a shitty video of us playing Intermelocity. Camera work is better, however the house mix was complete shit and it was all recorded using the cam mic. Still gives a general idea.

And here, just to show how fucking amazing Zak is, especially for his age, here is a vid of him recording drums for Intermelocity. As well as a bit of foul mouthed commentary from him and Ashley at the end. (This is the actual mix of the drums. For now. Comments on the production/mixing would be great)
