Great depression was like...90% unemployed...we aren't anywhere near that level
Great depression was around 25% unemployment and another 25% underemployment.
America's dying because we don't produce anything anymore. 12 million cell phones were sold since 2001, 0 of them were made in America. Our production is dying because it's too expensive to make products in America. Why is it too expensive? Our government regulates EVERYTHING, taxes are getting higher each year, plus now it's required to have health care for all employees. Believe me, I don't want some fucking religious conservative in office (Palin, O'Donnell), but just someone who will get the country back in it's feet the right way. I'm not voting for Obama in 2012 because I don't believe his policies will work. Unless a fucking miracle happens and production goes up, debt goes down, and we all live in the Utopian States of America, he's not getting my vote.
Don't produce anything my ass, we may outsource but that doesn't mean we don't do nothing, the companies still get the money and work done
Well, seeing how there's so much namecalling in this thread, it's same to assume the majority of you are bleeding heart liberals.
I'm not affiliated with any party, but if you actually gave a damn about what the majority of people think about Obama right now, it's not good. He'll have a fun time trying to get re-elected. Hell, he's busy campaigning right now, and, apparently, for some reason, has the time to go on The Daily Show, a fucking comedy program of all shows, (and get torn to shreds by Jon Stewart I might add). You think people have faith in someone like that? Where is the problem fixing? He's still fucking campaigning in 2010?
And if you actually believe the Republicans are going to let lunatic extremists represent them in 2012 after someone so far left and extreme like Obama won, you better get your head out of your ass. They're not making the Democrats mistake again.
I guess I did pull that number out of my ass, I do remember hearing or reading that before but whatever, and I'd say saying "Economic collapse almost as bad as the great depression" is pulling shit out of your ass too
at least I ain't seeing it
I don't know, I was 4% off... you were 69% off..
I think 4% is significant, but I still would say, considering inflation, and the current deficit, it is somewhat safe to say it is almost as bad economically.
Because we have a regulated economy, the impact of an economic collapse is softened on the citizens...for the time being.
Don't produce anything my ass, we may outsource but that doesn't mean we don't do nothing, the companies still get the money and work done
Go to a store, find something that's made in America, and compare it to the price of something made in China or Indonesia.

Go to a store, find something that isn't made by an American company
which iirc the republicans have the majority
Far from it, in the Senate, Democrats, plus two independents who side with democrats have control of 59% of the votes. In the House, Democrats hold 58.9% of voting power. By the way, this is the 111th US Congress.
Even Obama's proposed railway system improvements were blocked...
Yeah, well you gotta have all of your own party vote for the bill, too.
Go to a store, find something that's made in America, and compare it to the price of something made in China or Indonesia.
Your computer, every aspect of it is made by a United States company
Your car is, unless it's some sort of sports car, made by a United States company
Don't produce anything my ass, we may outsource but that doesn't mean we don't do nothing, the companies still get the money and work done
We don't produce much at all. What are you talking about? The only thing I can think right off that is produced in the USA commonly is musical instruments.
Go to a store, find something that isn't made by an American company
You don't see my point. Companies that are based in America generally don't have their production plants in America. If there plants were in America, American jobs would be created. But instead it's fucking expensive to hire employees nowadays, so they outsource.
Dank You Ford Calling Dell Customerrr Serrrrveece How may I help you?
We don't produce much at all. What are you talking about? The only thing I can think right off that is produced in the USA commonly is musical instruments.
Then why are we so economically powerful?
I would vote if I could, but I'm not american. Well, good luck with not getting an idiot president, i'll keep my fingers crossed for you
Go to a store, find something that isn't made by an American company
Now I see how you got so many posts. More and more shit posting.

Japanese cars are largely produced here (which account for a vast share of the auto industry)
Your computer, every aspect of it is made by a United States company

Toyota and Honda are United States companies?
and some American cars (though a lot are made in Canada)
Now I see how you got so many posts. More and more shit posting.
And what is it you're doing?
Toyota and Honda are United States companies?
They might as well be. They hire as many American employees as the American car companies do.
Toyota and Honda are United States companies?
Ford and GM are
Your computer, every aspect of it is made by a United States company
Apple is made in China.

Lol. Toyota, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, Renault, Mercedes, Mazda, to name a few. Most cars are bought from foreign companies.

Even if Obama lost, labor will not be cheaper compared to the outsources. The corporations will get HUGE tax breaks from the conservatives, resulting in less $$$ circulating within the lower class people. We will pretty much have a dystopia without him. America is slowly turning its field to innovation within engineering & technology rather than actual production goods. Actually, there is more generation of wealth through innovation.

Being built outside of the country means what? It's the United States companies that get the credit for the objects being built.

Why is China going to surpass us by 2020?

and partially designed, built, and marketed in America by American employees
Then why are we so economically powerful?
America isn't?
Sinking ship as far as I can see. China is the powerful one now.
Ford and GM are
they suck
Then why are we so economically powerful?
Companies sell stuff here and have to pay taxes here and hire employees.
Why is China going to surpass us by 2020?
Because they have literally 3x more people than us? It's sad that they will take so long, really.
Being built outside of the country means what? It's the United States companies that get the credit for the objects being built.
But there are less jobs available to American citizens. Less jobs means less people paying taxes, less money the government gets to reduce the debt and build a surplus, which means less money available for tax cuts, etc.
