• Help, my mom is being sued

Move to Denmark... the court would say to that man: "Go fuck yourself instead of sueing this lonely mother, you assholl!" Denmark is a great country becuase of the "Jante-law", it basically means that if you hurt yourself, it's mostly your own fault (and it say too, that you shouldn't think your anything, but that's another aspect..). I know you have to pay your own insurance in Canada, but the man must have insurance, doesn't he? If he haven't, it's just him being dumb as shit (Or poor..), and then it's his own fault that he had to pay that Hospital bill... Just try to convince the court that you had nothing to do with it.. They can't sue you if you haven't had a part in the act, right? Hope it goes well for you (And your mother!)
He won't win. And even if he does he probably won't get more than 10k.
Nope it is your property.
no, the state actually owns about 15 feet from the road to your house. I know this because the state cut down out hedges next to the road because they needed to redo our road in our neighborhood, and the plants were in the way. that's how it is in the US
If you are responsible then yes you are either fucked or your insurance company covers you. Anyway hire a Jewish lawyer and everything will be OK.
Or a Mexican lawyer.
-becuase of the "Jante-law",-
Uh. That makes no sense. IIRC The Law of Jante is pretty much just racism rules. We've had about it in our classes at school. There was this town called Jante, that did NOT like immigrants, and made said rules so the immigrants knew how inferior they were. I think, what you mean is, is that Denmark is great, because we as danes have this understanding. This understanding is, that if you, fall and break your wrist, it is only the fault of the one who owned the streets fault, if he did it on purpose. Otherwise it is no ones fault and you get on with your life. Incase someone cares; The Law of Jante: 1. You must not believe you are anything. 2. You must not think you are just as good as us. 3. You must not think you are smarter than us. 4. You must not make yourself believe you are better than us. 5. You must not believe you know more than us. 6. You must not believe you are more than us. 7. You must not think you are good for anything 8. You must not laugh at us. 9. You must not think anyone likes you. 10. You must not think you can learn us anything.
Don't worry he'll die from unknown causes soon. Just pay that bloke down the road $2.50.
This is why we think americans are retards.

Now if Lankist was here...
snip
I wouldn't even bother getting a lawyer, he has no proof he was even there AND it's not your property. How can this fucktard think he has a case?
If it was your sidewalk and 100% your property, it was his fault. He went on your property for Christ Sakes... You can sue anyone for anything anymore. Its really annoying
Sorry if i'm late but in Canada you are responsible for maintaining the sidewalk in front of your house.
OP is officially an idiot. 1. The guy slipped. You did not do anything to make him slip 2. That is way too much fucking money to be suing for. Correct amount should be no more than 1k 3. This was 2 years ago, so why is he suing now?
Kill them unless you live in Texas.
That's a big fucking city.
Ontario is a province in Canada. Happy now?
Ontario is a province in Canada. Happy now?
Yes.
sidewalks are public property
counter sue him for being ugly [editline]10:31PM[/editline] and shit balance
If you followed the series, you kinda know hes a hobo now. Something with creating evidence IIRC.
He used forged evidence. (Accidentally of course) Anyways that's what a time machine is for :colbert:
The man probably got downs syndrome, add, aids, hiv and other stuff from falling down on your sidewalk too.
Sidewalks are usually city property. If they say it is your property, just sue him for trespassing. Problem solved.
he shouldn't have been walking on your sidewalk
Challenge the suit on the grounds that's it's frivolous. Seriously. It's an obvious money grab from complete idiots. If the judge doesn't dismiss it immediately he's an idiot too. The sidewalk is city property anyways so they shouldn't even be suing your family anyways.
What a fucking pair of bloody cunts.
Your fault really. If your to dumb to not put any gravel on the icey path you and your mother deserves the lawsuit. Not or 1 Million dollars, but maybe 50-200 thousand dollars.
People are such entitled pricks. In cities in the US it's your responsibility to shovel your walk. I hope you win OP.
That stupid, unless it's your land you shouldn't have to and if it is your land you should have the choice not to as it's private.
Someone is suing your mom because they slipped on your sidewalk...TWO YEARS AGO? What the fuck?
They shall be arrested for fraud and for being late! Jokes aside, this is pretty stupid. Why the fuck are they sueing you for an icy walk? You control ice? Seriously, don't worry. Y would have accident in front of X's house, and then proceed to sue X, even if X didn't have anything to do with the accident. That's one of the most stupid cases ever. I wish there was some law or some punishment to prevent this kind of shit. [editline]12:22AM[/editline]
Your fault really. If your to dumb to not put any gravel on the icey path you and your mother deserves the lawsuit. Not or 1 Million dollars, but maybe 50-200 thousand dollars.
For all we know, this could even be a scam. If the path you walk is bad, you either use another or use the same carefully right? Who knows, this might have all been on purpose. OP, tell us how this ends.
I just asked my mother ( she is a lawyer in canada) and it depends if it is your towns responsibility or yours. Addititonally if you didnt make any attempt to clear the sidewalk like putting salt down then you have problems. If you atleast tried to clear it like putting salt down etc. then you have no problems. P.S they wont get a million, maybe 150K
take a lot of strolls on his sidewalk
