I don't need this but pretty much 99% of facebook does
Or maybe they just don't type on the internet as if they're writing a job application 99% of the time.
Or maybe they just don't type on the internet as if they're writing a job application 99% of the time.
cuz typin 4 real taks 2 lng bcuz i need mor time 2 bcum a fan of evrythng
Wrong, it is Ellis's. If it's plural than you put the apostrophe after.
i don't know why people have a phobia of putting an apostrophe s after a word ending in s. i hardly EVER see that, and when i do, it's almost starting to look odd.
Wrong, it is Ellis's. If it's plural than you put the apostrophe after.
Do you mean possesive? Ellis nor the car are plural..
cuz typin 4 real taks 2 lng bcuz i need mor time 2 bcum a fan of evrythng
If you actually care about how other people type it just makes you a pretentious douchebag.
Do you mean possesive? Ellis nor the car are plural..
No I mean if, in an unrelated circumstance, it's an object that belongs to multiple things which have a plural form ending in "s" it is written with an "s" after the apostrophe. Example: the birds' nest. I'm talking about the nest that belong to multiple birds. [editline]10:47AM[/editline]
If you actually care about how other people type it just makes you a pretentious douchebag.
I really rarely care until it's unreadable, which actually it quite commonly is. It's really hard to take someone seriously when they type like that, it's like trying to critically listen to the guy in the park wearing a potato sack.
I'm tired of seeing people making these kinds of mistakes, it isn't very important but some people have trouble figuring it out
You should have used a semicolon instead of a comma to separate your independent clauses. :smug:
You should have used a semicolon instead of a comma to separate your independent clauses. :smug:
It looks like he isn't such an expert after all. :smugdog:
Now, when to use "a" and when to use "an". Whenever you're talking about something and that something starts with a vowel (a, e, i, o, u), you ALWAYS use "an": An Asset An Elf An Island An Omen An Ulcer You use "a" whenever the word starts with a consonant: A Hero A Dog A Cat A Person The only exception is when said consonant is a silent "h" followed by a vowel (meaning you don't read the "h" when you read the word), as an example: An hippopotamous HOPE I HELPED
actually dumbass theres another exception ex. "a union" not "an union" before you try to educate everyone know what your talking about idiot
actually dumbass theres another exception ex. "a union" not "an union" before you try to educate everyone know what your talking about idiot
Oh no he didn't list every single exception in the English language about using a/an. A quick bit on infinitives. An infinitive is a verbal noun. It has characteristics of both a verb and a noun. It functions in a sentence as a noun, but can also be modified by an adverb and have a direct object/indirect object. Its form is easy, just like "to go" or "to eat." Both of the words are part of the verbal. It is incorrect to split the infinitive with an adverb or anything else, like "to boldly go" or "to not go." I grew up hearing infinitives being split, so it's natural for me to split an infinitive in natural speech. However, when writing, avoid splitting infinitives.
Oh no he didn't list every single exception in the English language about using a/an.
well when he says the only exception youd expect there to be only 1 dumbass
well when he says the only exception youd expect there to be only 1 dumbass
He said the exception rule, not a specific exception.
He said the exception rule, not a specific exception.
and "a union" doesnt follow the rule he listed. goddamn you are dumb
Also the h in hippopotamus isn't pronounced silently. At least not where I live.
He said the exception rule, not a specific exception.
It is a different exception. The OP mentioned silent "h" sound. What this guy is pointing out is adding a "y" sound to words that begin with u, like union. I don't get why his panties are in a twist though.
Also the h in hippopotamus isn't pronounced silently. At least not where I live.
Here either, but hour is. I think that's a better example.
and "a union" doesnt follow the rule he listed. goddamn you are dumb
Why are you not banned yet. Jesus Christ that's a specific exception, there's a shitload of those and he didn't list any because there's no point. [editline]11:31AM[/editline]
I don't get why his panties are in a twist though.
It's a troll.
Why are you not banned yet. Jesus Christ that's a specific exception, there's a shitload of those and he didn't list any because there's no point.
a union a useful a utensil there are more dumbass
Why are you not banned yet. Jesus Christ that's a specific exception, there's a shitload of those and he didn't list any because there's no point. [editline]11:31AM[/editline] It's a troll.
I appreciate him somewhat, since it is a different exception to the rule that I didn't consider. He'd be an alright poster if he didn't call everyone an idiot after his post.
Well the actual a/an rule is that if it starts with a vowel sound it is an, if it starts with a consonant sound it is a [editline]04:34PM[/editline] I think
a union a useful a utensil there are more dumbass
Okay fine you're right about that then.
thank u for the thread op, i really learned an lot about grammer, i hope this thread stays up because their is always other people who is struggling with grammer as well
A lot of this stuff only applies if you're English. Americans don't use "I've", we just say "I have". And yea the hippopotamus thing, you sillynannies for whatever reason pronounce it without the "H". Dunno why...
Americans don't use "I've", we just say "I have".
Since when? I didn't get the memo.
