... its a rat..
what a horrible thread
Cut his tail off and let him bleed to death. Other than the pain of having his fucking tail cut off, his death would be pretty slow but more or less painless. I suggest doing it when it's sleeping. Less pain.
I'm guessing you may be a bit squeamish, so I would suggest placing him under a sliding garage door. Slam it down so that it hits the neck, then you won't have to feel the cracking. Actually, any door would do.

and someone's pet. I don't know about you but i love my pets.
Put it in a trash bag, then smack it extremely hard into the ground. Should break its neck and kill it quickly.
Other than that, just pay the fucking vet if you love it so much.

...how about something a little more humane?
what i do before i feed rats to my snake, i take them by the head and tail, and pull, separates the spine all the way, instantly, no pain.
And how is he dying, he might be savable
Blender
Carbon monoxide. Easiest way to go.

This, actually. Put him inside an almost airtight container and channel the exhaust from any gasoline-powered car into it. The rat will fall asleep basically.
send a current through him

are you insinuating that forcing someone to watch twilight is even an ounce humane?
Beat it to death with another rat.
Let him go, he will die on his own.
And he will also feed an animal.

no it will asphyxiate and die
it's actually about as long and painful as drowning, seeing as it is the same thing. but for the most part, it's the best way next to just going to the vet and getting it the shot.
Let it die naturally.
Let him go naturally, rodents don't feel much pain on death.

Fucking ninjas.

Suffocation is only painful if you are physically prevented from breathing from what I know. Filling your lungs with cold water is painful, simply lacking oxygen isn't.
Why don't you just wait until it's dead? It's dying anyway, what's the point in wasting valuable effort killing it?
Um, rat poison?
You could use CO2, or one of three other methods:
A) You can "get a firm grip on the head, grab the legs/hindquarters. Bend the head up and at the same time jerk the hindquarters back and upward."
B) "Take by the base of the tail and whack on a sharp edge, hitting and breaking the neck."
C) "You put a screwdriver across the rats neck (horizontal to the vertical rat, against the base of the skull) and press down firmly keeping the rat from squirming and pull at the base of the rats tail (very quickly and sharply, mind you), this will separate the spinal column and the rat dies."
If you're afraid of missing the rat with a hammer, I would suggest method C.

Instructions on how to kill your beloved pet
I couldn't kill my bet with an object, that'd suck.
This thread is depressing.

it's not as painful but it's damn near it

These are proven methods for killing feeder rats and mice.
Couldn't you just buy rat poison, and a needle, and inject it yourself?
I know nothing about medicine, but if you feel rat poison is inhumane, by a liquid painkiller. Something like tylenol should work since it's.. a rat..
