Hell, I had to take 3 years of a language (or 2 years of 2) just to graduate Middle School. Being a massive nerd, I did three years of Latin, but they had Spanish, French, German and (in my third year) Japanese, so some people actually learned a skill more useful than being able to quote "Quidquid latine dicitur, altum videtur" et cetera at people.
Well excuse me Mr. someone who is placed in an educational system in where they set a student even higher than I, who also set myself rather high compared to the rest of California yet does not make it as high as YOU
Oh my god I love you OP Though I doubt this is an American only problem, I'm sure it happens in every country. But living in the southwest there's tons of illegal immigrants (Border state woop woop), I mean they're nice people but god it's awkward talking to some of the cashiers at the stores in town. Mother fucker called me an amigo >:o [editline]15th May 2011[/editline]
Well excuse me Mr. someone who is placed in an educational system in where they set a student even higher than I, who also set myself rather high compared to the rest of California yet does not make it as high as YOU
At least he knows better than to use fucking HUGE run on sentences
You must have went to a really shitty middle school.
Forcing kids to be cultural and learn different languages makes it a GOOD school.
Did you even read the OP? At all? He didn't say everyone needs to learn english, only if you live in an english speaking country.
Did you read my post? At all? It was obvious that I was talking about America from the fact that I brought up America specifically in 2 instances, and referenced it in one. The whole post was me stating how they have no real reason to other than to accommodate english speakers, when they can get along fine, and shouldn't be forced to learn a language if they don't wish, when they don't have to and there's no need for it. This is different from asdf's problem, as his is due to the response by businesses and schools to this. He shouldn't be forced to learn another language for a job, but then he falls int he same problem as the spanish-speakers: it's an inconvenience ot him, because he would have trouble int he job market. Same problem.
i've never heard of that one the only one i've heard was one course of language or arts and that was in california :v:
You never saw this?
Because it's a common language that you will have to deal with in a job environment. That is the case. Employers expect that you can deal with that. Maybe it could be spent better, but there are spanish-speaking Americans in America and you live in an area that has a higher concentration of them. Employers want their service, so they want employees that can handle it.
My only real problem with all this is that, if I move to a country I would be more than happy to learn the language, but I have a fair share of people that blatantly disregard my language when moving here. I would like to learn some german or russian though.
-The American People
don't assume you're speaking for everyone. I don't understand why you're complaining. You're a fucking telemarketer. Learning English would be nothing but a benefit to them, so if they don't want to that's fine. It's America, you're free to do what you want. Stop bitching because they're making your job harder. Answering in a different language? Gee, maybe most of the people they know and would be calling also speak that primary language. Excuse them for not telepathically knowing you aren't someone they know. PS I pretend not to speak English when telemarketers call.
pretty stupid to tell someone "you can't be here unless I can communicate with you" people are just doing what they can with the short time they have on this planet and you gotta bust their balls for trying to find a place with greater opportunity - which everyone should be entitled to seek out.
it's more like "please, at least try to make an effort to blend in with us"
Oh my god I love you OP Though I doubt this is an American only problem, I'm sure it happens in every country. How was I being an elitist bastard by saying that? Unless you mean "high" as in "intoxicated on marijuana or other mind-altering substances", which given your syntax I could definitely believe.
They won't be able to find much opportunity in America unless their dream is to be a gardener if they aren't at least able to communicate with half of the country
that is a pretty fuckin ignorant thing to say. example: you have 2 kids and a wife, and you are 29 years old living in mexico as a mexican citizen and you are planning on moving to the US do you: a) learn english for a year or 2 somehow while staying in mexico (which would be pretty difficult) while your family waits in poverty or; b) get the fuck out of there with your family/move by yourself+send money back home and do the best you can to communicate and pick up the language
also stop using the word mexican to describe an ethnicity far more ethnic groups in america speak spanish than just mexicans [editline]14th May 2011[/editline] pretty sure it's not
Actually it is, and it is 3 years of language to graduate.
[img_thumb]http://www.collegeisnext.com/webfm_send/17[/img_thumb] You never saw this?
well again that's for college admissions not graduating high school

OP is just complaining about how annoying it is that people will move to another country without learning the fucking language, so that they can hardly function in society.
As a telemarketer for a charity, I call a lot of people everyday. And it pisses me to no end when I call someone and they answer and say "I don't speak English" or they answer the phone speaking Spanish. If you're going to come to America, learn English first. Every other culture knows how this works, they have come to America and integrated into society as normal people. The British, French, Chinese, Russians, Germans, and even the Bosnians have all integrated into American society. They only group that has failed to is the Mexicans. Now I understand that some Mexicans are good people and have learned English and integrated into American society, but many of them have not. And you know that these Mexicans who don't speak English are illegal immigrants, because you have to learn English in order to become a US citizen, it's part of the citizenship test that all legal immigrants are required to take. This doesn't just go for America, it goes for all countries, please, learn the language of the country you're immigrating to. I wouldn't move to France if I didn't speak French or Japan if I didn't speak Japanese. -The American People
Just because they're not a citizen doesn't make them an illegal. They could be in on a work visa, and then have achieved naturalization through having children here. Also don't complain about people not speaking our shitty language. It gets harder and harder to learn a language the older you get.
that is a pretty fuckin ignorant thing to say. example: you have 2 kids and a wife, and you are 29 years old living in mexico as a mexican citizen and you are planning on moving to the US do you: a) learn english for a year or 2 somehow while staying in mexico (which would be pretty difficult) while your family waits in poverty or; b) get the fuck out of there with your family/move by yourself+send money back home and do the best you can to communicate and pick up the language
I don't have a problem as long as they care enough to try.

Japanese, German, and Latin provided?! My school already cut out German, Chinese, and Sign Language. Bourgeoisie
God you fuckers would not have survived the immigration age. Little Italy, China Town, etc.
You snipped it so I had to look at that stupid shit on the next page too?
Okay, it wasn't just me. I swore I rated that guy dumb on page 2.
He called you amigo? Seriously? I would punch him in the face. Okay, I wouldn't, but I would want to, or I'd just laugh.
It's a joke, I test out my shitty Spanish whenever I check out, he's a bro. Pretty sure I called him a dick last week though.
You snipped it so I had to look at that stupid shit on the next page too?
yes, now tell me why it's dumb or I'll just assume you're an idiot.
College prep is the graduation path to graduate with the class in cap and gown. GED is the retarded path of dropouts and night schoolers.
Hm. Well, everyone of my aunts and all but one of my uncles have an associates degree and they didn't need to learn any languages, at all, and my mother just graduated with a baccalaureate in social work for drug addiction counseling and neither did she, so I assume any sort of language requirement is a per-school basis, and I don't know of any in Michigan, Pennsylvania, or Colorado where you do need to learn a language, based on my own college findings and my friend's. May be wrong though.
christ this thread is moving fast
Yeah you fight the power man, you'll really teach those telemarketers a lesson. OP is just complaining about how annoying it is that people will move to another country without learning the fucking language, so that they can hardly function in society.
that affects OP how because pretty sure that's their problem and you shouldn't be having a fucking hissy fit about it.
Yeah you fight the power man, you'll really teach those telemarketers a lesson. OP is just complaining about how annoying it is that people will move to another country without learning the fucking language, so that they can hardly function in society.
Excuse their country for being a shithole and thinking that your country is such a great place that they want to rebuild their lives their ASAP. DEY TUK ER JERBS
God you fuckers would not have survived the immigration age. Little Italy, China Town, etc.
Let me move to Chile and speak made up words so you have no idea what I'm saying, Captain Culture
that affects OP how
If you read the thread you'd know it makes his job as a telemarketer very difficult, and I imagine it would affect ANYONE trying to do their job that encounters someone who doesn't speak the same language as them.
Excuse their country for being a shithole and thinking that your country is such a great place that they want to rebuild their lives their ASAP. DEY TUK ER JERBS
I feel like you were trying to be clever but you missed the mark so hard you may as well have just given up before you hit "Post". I'm not even sure what you're trying to say here.
I don't have a problem as long as they care enough to try.
okay while they work 40+ hour jobs for less than they'd pay the equivalent US citizen while trying to keep a family in mexico or locally supported tell them they need to find time to try to learn fluent english. I would be willing to bet that most of these "illegal immigrants" are coming up because they are trying to give their kids a better chance than they had, not so much as to live the american dream because it isn't so easy when it takes you forever to get a green card and learn the language
yes, now tell me why it's dumb or I'll just assume you're an idiot.
The only dumb part is the "ps", that's just a dick move.
Oh yeah, that's why it's a requirement to take 2 years of a different language to graduate highschool right?
no it isn't it's a requirement if you want to get into a four year university but you can graduate high school without ever taking a foreign language class. Personally, I took five years of different language courses in high school, but I know for a fact that I wasn't required to.
Two years of two languages or three years of one?! Japanese, German, and Latin provided?! My school already cut out German, Chinese, and Sign Language. Bourgeoisie
The school was also overcrowded as FUCK - there were 1200 students crammed into a building designed for 800, with trailers for another hundred or so. Between classes, the main hallway was PACKED - it was literally wall-to-wall people.
