Compwhizii, if you're the coder, it's not really acceptable to tell them to stop using a feature instead of fixing it.
Are you getting paid to code?

I don't think so

why would someone pay someone to ruin their site?
If he is getting paid it's not official
there was a lot of talk about it when he was first hired
because apparently there's loads of laws regarding the hire of minor's

Child labor laws were made during the days where young children had to work in extremely dangerous conditions in factories. Meaning it was very common to lose a limb or two, or even die. Not only that, but the pay was very little and they had to work for 12 hours straight and their boss would sometimes even beat slacking workers.
And who cares if he got 'officially' hired?

Yeah that's a wonderful way to fix it

The forum still double posts when I use quick reply.
Should I stop using quick reply?
Fix the enhanced editor.
I would but I'm kind of busy working a new project right now. When I have the time I'll fix it and/or upgrade to vB4 with the new editor.
I managed to upgrade a 20GB, 2000+ user SharePoint system to a new version of Windows, SQL and SharePoint in 8 hours on 1 day over the summer, including flattening and reinstalling the server. The few minor problems were fixed within minutes of the new system going online.
Why have there been so many problems doing a VBulletin upgrade?

Because I doubt you were using a version of windows with a heavy amount of custom code, the VBulliiten Facepunch uses is heavily modified
Can't really remember having problems 3 months after the update last time
the differences seem to be greater between the updates this time, hence the more difficulty.

That's nice.
I'm a fulltime student and a part time developer who has a project other than this forum that he is paid for, so therefore he is quite pressed for time in doing things here. Upgrading vBulletin is not the most simplest of tasks in the world, especially when you have a good amount of custom code and a well modified theme that you have to merge with upstream changes. Additionally I need to make changes to core files that cannot be done via the hooks system. Once that's all done I need to push the code to the servers and apply any hook or theme changes again, and finally babysit the thing to make sure no problems creep up.

I grant you that, it's not easy - but at the same time it's not rocket science.
It's a forum, not a NASA launch system.
And apparently the double-post bug now happens for you too.

It's repetitive and time consuming, I don't have time for it at this moment.

I'm so hurt
[editline]9th December 2010[/editline]
It's been happening to me for awhile but I'm still not sure exactly what's causing it. I understand that newreply.php isn't responding in a timely fashion (or at all) and the Javascript gives up waiting and sends the post again. It's just server side where exactly it's stalling that's the problem.

Any way to remove the part that sends again on failure for now, and have it error out? or even have it fall back to normal post?

"full time student" is a bit of an odd way to say "I'm in high school"
How come garry hasn't hired someone like pawnstick to work on the forums? Pawnstick is awesome..
No actually, we are not. This has nothing to do with cookies/session hijacking, nothing to do with salts being used in VB's password hashes, and nothing to do with dictionary attacks. Nobody has access to the hashes/salt on VB, nobody is going to bother going through the effort of crafting cookies that won't work, when it's far simpler to use rainbow tables to get the Plaintext password, which could be used on other sites.
This is about a table of unsalted hashes taken from somewhere else, that could be used to compromise accounts for a very small minority of Facepunch. If those specific users used weak passwords, and used the same passwords on other sites (email, facebook, steam, etc) they are utterly fucked unless they change their passwords everywhere asap.
Also, using precomputed hashes to get the password is not a dictionary attack. A dictionary attack is little more then guessing a password using a list of common passwords (12345, qwerty, god, sex, etc), then using any information you may have obtained via social engineering (anniversaries, birthdays, first car, etc) and then words in the dictionary (from aardvark to zzz). With rainbow tables, you know what the password looks like after it has passed through a hashing function ( md5(), sha(), etc), and you simply search for that hash in your database in the hops of either finding the original plaintext, or a hash collision (a letter combination that yields the exact same hash, which would be useless on other sites that use different hashing algorithms, or salts).
