Whatever you do royzo DO NOT let PewDiePie play this.
I don't see why not. It'd give the game a big popularity boost.
Will you release a version before it gets greenlight? I would hate to have to wait forever to play until this gets greenlighted.
I think making the Intruder look like just a regular person would make it creepier. That's just my opinion though, this looks fantastic and I wish I still had something capable of running Source games. ):
if you hide a little piece of paper somewhere really hard to find saying "pewdiepie is a cunt" i will love you forever
if you hide a little piece of paper somewhere really hard to find saying "pewdiepie is a cunt" i will love you forever
Just imagine the Fan shitstorm, Oh the Glory. Do it, JUST DO IT
In my opinion, the Intruder should be similar to Slenderman. I'm not saying that it should have no face/be easily comparable to Slenderman, I'm saying that it should be similar to Slenderman thematically with the whole almost-a-normal-human theme, but with one or two terrifying differences (in Slendermans case, his lack of a face/tentacle arms.) Something about that kind of uncanny valley type of entity is just so creepy. edit: ooh, I just had an idea. what about a horror game where it required you to upload a picture, preferably of somebody, even yourself, as use for the enemies face. imagine creeping around in a normal horror game environment, seeing the creature or whatever, then seeing your mothers face on the creature. bonus points if the game randomly corrupts the file so that the face/whatev looks messed up.

Nah, those things never end up being creepy only laughably bad. Or if you had a My Photos section some of the photos on the wall would be you. But of course you would just end up with Porn splattered all of the walls of your game

They are represented by small bars in the bottom-left corner of the screen, so it's clear to the player how much they're being affected by it. You really don't need to look at it often though. It pretty much works as you'd expect; You get tired when you don't sleep, and not eating is unhealthy. I also tried to pick depletion times that would make sense in the in-game universe, although I'd change them in a heartbeat if it provides better gameplay. One thing I knew from the start is that I need to make sure it affects you in a way that makes sense, and that doesn't get in the way of gameplay, but rather enhances it by providing meaningful decisions. This thread has reminded me that I should give the player subtle non-visual cues as well. Right now I'm thinking yawning and stomach rumbling. Ideally those cues should tell you that you need to consider going back home, and you make a decision based on the bars.
How often does the Intruder show up?
Is it always that dark, what is the day time like?
Is it always that dark, what is the day time like?
It's not always that dark. Definitely not during the day, that would be weird. I'm still playing around with what day looks like, but significantly less claustrophobic.
How often does the Intruder show up?
I won't (because I shouldn't) talk about Intruder related dynamics until launch. I can tell you that one encounter is inevitable, but that's deeply grounded in the game's theme and marketing, so that's quite an uninsightful remark.
This is fucking awesome, Royzo. You're so fucking spooky.
Is moonlight and phases going to play a part in the night mechanic? I think it would be a neat subtle feature to have some nights brighter than others due to the moon's current phase. This would also make walking around the house a little more believable; after all, night time isn't truly pitch black, as our eyes adjusting and ambient moonlight does help us see a little better in the dark.
I really hope this'll succed, but what will you do if it doesn't?
Skeletons are confirmed to be in the game. There's at LEAST one in [sp]your body[/sp].
Jesus is this true? I may not be able to play this game then, holy fuck that's scary...
Admit it. You're the intruder Ryozo
I tried being an intruder once and I got arrested almost instantly.
SPOOKY TALKING ABOUT HUNGER AND OTHER SHIT
What if hunger affected your maximum HP? It would take away HP based on how full the hunger bar was, empty being starved for several days before the encounter and full being regularly fed. However, if a meal is skipped one day there should be a permanent effect for the rest of the game. Also thirst is almost even more important that hunger because without moisture you can't absorb any food whatsoever. I would say thirst is a must. Also, is it going to be relatively easy to map for this?
You got my vote. How large do you plan to make the game world, just the house and some adjacent areas? It'd also be great to have an option to turn off the bars and have Resident Evil-esque approximations for hunger, sleep and health.
It's not always that dark. Definitely not during the day, that would be weird. I'm still playing around with what day looks like, but significantly less claustrophobic.
Should divide the light mood into sections. Dawn, pre-noon, noon, afternoon, dusk, night. Then you can play with the lighting. Warm colours for morning and afternoon, washed whites for noontime, and blues and black for dusk and night. Would look quite beautiful. [editline]1st September 2012[/editline] Maybe sunbeams through the windows, dust, fog. I'm just picturing neat stuff in my head.
I love how this plays on the classic human fear of someone being on your property with malicious intents ( for lack of a better explanation... ). I've had several nightmares scarier than anything I've ever experienced simply based around that concept, and I cannot wait to play this.

Say one of the randomly-generated variables is the moon cycle, making some nights when the full moon hits (if it's present at all during that playthrough) brighter than others, which maybe makes it easier to see, but also easier to be seen by the intruder. Could be cool.
Got my vote, I'd play the shit of this with some mates! If I was toking with them it would be hella more interesting
Looks great, I shared the page with my Facebook to hopefully get some more ratings. This game needs to be released ASAP.
Weather would be interesting too. Not just rain, thunder, lightning, wind, but also snow/blizzardy conditions and maybe hot nights that come with the sounds of crickets. Environmental stuff.
Weather would be interesting too. Not just rain, thunder, lightning, wind, but also snow/blizzardy conditions and maybe hot nights that come with the sounds of crickets. Environmental stuff.
Snowy weather than hot nights doesn't really fit the seven day span.
Snowy weather than hot nights doesn't really fit the seven day span.
Well of course, maybe it could work seasonally... [editline]1st September 2012[/editline] Would be pretty horrifying in its own respect if the weather did that though. :v:
I agree with playing as the invade. Just to fuck with my friends
Also, is it going to be relatively easy to map for this?
I'm paying specific attention to that.
