This happens often for me:
Im falling asleep, all of the sudden my buddy jerks (as if scared or suprised by something) and I feel like I landed on my bed, but nothing happend.
What could this be?
I get this a lot. Usually it's accompanied by a mental image of hitting a tripwire with my ankle which causes my leg to jerk. I really hate this, it always startles me.
I used the MILD method, and didn't get lucid. I had a dream about being lucid, but was not at a concience level. Help?

I sometimes feel like I'm standing up and I trip, so I flail to catch myself for a second but I was laying down the entire time.

its totally normal and really annoying
[editline]7th July 2012[/editline]
oh wow didnt see orkels post there
Completely normal, happens to most of us. Sometimes accompanied by hypnagogic imagery and sounds, for example the last time I had it I had a hypnagogic image of a basketball flying towards my face and it made me jerk. Another time it was a loud hypnagogic bark of a dog that made me jerk.

I've had those sometimes. One time I had one in the middle of Study Hall in my senior year of high school. I fell asleep and started dreaming about playing rugby and when I got tackled My entire body jumped forward. Totally didn't get any strange looks for that.

I also achieved a sort of lucidicity. I wasn't really in control but I was fighting a blob monster on a beach and I had some hot chick who was with me at the time give me a flamethrower. Okay It was a bottle of hairspray and a match but still I sorta managed to summon something.

How do you summon things? I usually start off the dream with someone, so if I want/need something I ask them for it and they hand it to me. It doesn't always work though, sometimes they shrug and tell me something to the effect of "You're on your own, bub."
I tend to get hypnic jerks when I am sleeping very uncomfortably
that is to say when I am sleeping on my desk in class then suddenly flail around for a bit and get the attention of half the class
[editline]8th July 2012[/editline]
but that's only happened once or twice before
Have any of you ever had a WILD in the afternoon? I hear that you don't need to have any sleep prior to the WILD attempt if you make the attempt in the day.
I've been able to use this prog now that I got a new phone, here's one of my more active nights (about 1 week ago). Each triangle means that I woke up from a dream and drew a gesture on the touchsreen signaling a dream event. Blue is audio and yellow movement. My sensors weren't calibrated properly this night, so there was barely any movement at all registered. That's a lot of dreams!

Here was last night. Only bothered to input one dream, probably was too tired or the rest of the dreams were too boring to bother adding them up. Sensor calibration was much better this time, still need some work tho. The square means I had a lucid dream and drew the corresponding gesture on the touchscreen after waking up from it. You can see movement and audio spikes but no triangles, means I didn't bother :v:

What program is that? Is there a pc/iOS alternative? I've got that sleep cycle alarm thing but it isn't really useful for much more than finding out when your REM vaguely is

It's lucid dreaming app for Android/iOS. Uses your phone's/tablet's accelometers and mics to record how much you move around etc. There's no PC version and it wouldn't even work on it.

Literally called lucid dreaming? Heh.
Tried to wild at 8PM, I haven't really gotten back in the swing of things yet, tried that relaxation point thing and had some auditory hypnogogia before ending up feeling genuinely sick. Must have ate something funny.
So i've been studying up on lucid dreaming for about a week but with no success. i have lucid dreams every once and awhile but thats just by chance but last night i managed to trigger it by myself. I was in a school being chased by some floating Shadow man that was being swarmed by bees. after awhile i started to think if i was in a dream or not so i tried a reality check where i push my fingers through my hand. after realizing i was in a dream and was lucid i turned around yelled "WHAT DO YOU WANT" at the shadow. He stopped and simply asked for some water, i walked down the hallway to the water fountain and filled up a cup with water, when i walked around there was nothing but a note on ground where the shadow was. When i opened it up all it said was "Video". After that i started waking up so i tried spinning like Orkel said and it worked a bit, somehow i ended up next to a industrial complex, after walking around a bit i finally woke up.
I think next time I'm going to try to talk to my Subconscious. and sorry if there's a shit ton of spelling errors, i have the Grammar skills of a 5th grader.
Ive only found out I was dreaming once. I dont remember the dream but I do remember me sayig nothing made sense and I peiced together that it was a dream and woke up, it was the strangest feeling.
Also can someone tell me what DILD is?
I don't like people who think Lucid dreaming is some form of spiritual awakening. I want to do it so I can do shit I can't do in real life. Like the worlds greatest video game or something.

I think that's the reason everyone wants to do it.
I want to do something with all that time I'm dreaming. Might as well be large n' in charge of my sleeping brain, but I can't get lucid often. Even then, I lose lucidity quickly.
What sensation do you feel when you go lucid? When I find out, it's a feeling of strong goosebumps across my body, like I'm in awe. Everything sort've jars into focus.

I always get this feeling like I've just been horribly startled, like this weird jump in my chest. There's usually someone behind me who tells me to calm down. It's odd, it's like I have a whole cast of characters in my mind who show up in the dreams I don't consciously construct.
Just had my first lucid dream a few days ago, woo.
I fell asleep listening to music, and then I learned that I was lucid when, even after I took off my headphones in the dream, the music was still there (And I was deaf).
I tried to do the spinning thing to change my location but I opened my eyes while I was spinning, and I ended up far above the sierras somehow. However, I wasn't able to fly.
The whole thing only lasted a few seconds but damn it was awesome.
[editline]9th July 2012[/editline]
But now I get too excited when I try to fall asleep with music, so I'm essentially screwed.
Tried to WBTB last night, but I just ended up feeling sick and not being able to go back to sleep after reading about lucid dreaming for half an hour after I woke up. The main reason was that whenever I started to drift into sleep I got this tingling sensation all around my body, which caused me to jump up and inhale quickly. I don't know if that was related to all of the reading I did or not.

Oh its related alright! Fight the urge to jump up and just let it happen. That's the key to getting lucid.

That tingling happens to me every night I just thought it was a hypnic jerk ( annoying little buggers look en up) but good to know
Oh its related alright! Fight the urge to jump up and just let it happen. That's the key to getting lucid.
Wow, really? Gonna try WBTB again then tonight. I really want a lucid dream because I haven't had one since my first one, which was when I was 8. That dream consisted of starting in a picnic area at a park, jumping onto one of the picnic tables, and waking up. What a waste of a lucid.
Is there any way to stop my stupid fucking paraphilias from crowbarring themselves into my dreams? They don't even have the courtesy to be wet dreams, they're just kind of there.
My dreams are nothing but a Freudian clusterfuck of weird shit and videogame references. I don't really know what the fuck is wrong with me.
Ok so last night I was considering have a WILD, but didn't because I didn't feel like it. However I woke about two hours ago and thought id try it then, so I did... but I guess I just dosed off because I had a dream about Ashens being my dad and things. At one point I felt myself being able to get my tongue under one of my teeth and I thought that that was strange and that it was more than likely because of all the sugary food I have had recently. I then remembered the reality and woke up, I then remember waking up in darkness but I never tried to see if I was in paralysis. However I believe I was because I could hear Ashens tell me he would help to get me in lucidity. He then tugged at my feet and pulled me from my bed much like an OBE exit method.
I then walked downstairs and announced to my mum (who was decorating) and my non-existent brother and sister that I was dreaming. They congratulated me, saying "Oh, finally!" and stuff like that. I then decided to go outside and the first thing I did was try to make myself more lucid and make the dream more vivid so I started to rub surfaces and my hands together; the concrete felt so real and I could see the odd insect crawl on my finger. I then wanted an apple pie that I could smell, but couldn't make anything appear... so I went home and asked what to do, they didn't know so I went to the front door thinking that I hope my ex-girlfriend doesn't appear. She opens the door and stands outside with her new boyfriend and I grab her and cry profusely into her shoulder. Everything blurs and I think "Oh shit, quick rub my hands together!" but didn't do it in time and woke up.
Nothing scary, which I am really happy about!
Any tips on increasing lucidity and things?
[editline]9th July 2012[/editline]
OH and... the streets were empty, which was odd...
I had a lucid dream. I was at a hardware store during night time when I saw people shooting at eachother and then I ran away only to say to myself "this is a nightmare". Then I realized that this felt exactly like a dream. I then controlled it, I plunged myself into a blanket of gray to have myself show up at a family party in some random apartment. Was cool.
I don't like people who think Lucid dreaming is some form of spiritual awakening. I want to do it so I can do shit I can't do in real life. Like the worlds greatest video game or something.
Yea. I wouldn't really call it "spiritual awakening" bs though, instead when you get your first really good lucid dream it's more like it gives you a whole new sense/perspective of just what your brain is capable of and how powerful it is.
Oh my god first lucid dream.
On my laptop with my hand resting on my temple holding up my head and I became very sleepy and fell asleep like that.
Can't quite remember what I dreamed about but it was fucking incredible. Like seriously one of the best things ever.
[sup][sup][sup][sup]and I kept on not trying to talk because I was afraid that if I would talk in the dream I would talk in real life. [/sup][/sup][/sup][/sup]
I just dream about a simulated cataclysm involving an asteroid
[sp]rainbow dash was the only survivor and I dont even like ponies...[/sp]
I originally wanted to LD to do crazy shit, which I still want to do, but I also want to ask my subconscious a few questions (that won't land me in spookyville) and figure out why I get anxious all the time about stuff, possibly by asking the sub. But I've only had one LD, which was in december 2010, after which I didn't attempt again until recently.

Have you tried WILD? I tried lots of things to get into LD before it and nothing really got me anywhere until I attempted WILD.
Have you tried WILD? I tried lots of things to get into LD before it and nothing really got me anywhere until I attempted WILD.
I have tried it, I just can't get the hang of it. If someone could point me to an extremely straightforward WILD guide, that'd be greatly appreciated.
Whenever I try to WILD during the afternoon, the furthest I'll get is some visual/audio hypnogogia (for example, I had vivid imagery of a skatepark but I forgot I was trying to WILD until I 'snapped out of it') and then 'snap out of it' which resets me to when I was starting to fall asleep.
WILDing at night is something I want to try once I find out my REM sweetspot. Using an app called DreamZ on my iPod, I'm gonna try figure out when's best to set an alarm for, although there's only so far a cheap-ass app can go. Is it like, 30 minutes before the REM period or something?
