A girl in my old class used to say "I don't wear them because if I'm about to drive off a cliff I can jump out quicker!:downs:".
I always wear them, I value my neck.
I mostly put it on, just for the fact that the police can sue you for it. I'm not driving myself a car though, not even got my license yet.
I only wear a seatbelt when I'm going on a really long drive or something. Not much use when it's like 10 minutes and you're out of the car.
Most car crashes happen less than 10km from the driver's home. Yeah, it's a lot use.
Here's a way to change your mind:

Get a friend to drive a car for you in an empty road

Tell him to drive at 20km/h and at some point slam the brake

Relax while not wearing a seatbelt. Do not hold onto anything or get prepared for danger in any way.
20 km/h is about 12 mph. You'll probably expect nothing dramatic to happen. I should also point out that you'll later see that you're wrong.
Seatbelts play on my claustrophobia, it makes me feel panicky and nervous and that I can't move properly, I still wear them but I by default hold them away from my body. When the car jerks, I tend to let go, so while it's not the best idea it's better than not wearing one at all.
Recently wrote a script for my local council. I was given to a film company and has been turned into a 20 minute film to be sold on DVD and distributed throughout the country. I got to assist direct and star with somebody else from my Drama class.
The script is about the dangers of not wearing a seatbelt and not just the immediate effects it can have but how it can ruin lives. I'll let you all know when it's out.
All nanny laws are bad.
If someone isn't wearing a seatbelt in your car tell them to get out if you care about yours or their safety.
Same goes if you get in a car and not everyone is buckled up. Ask them to buckle up or get out of the vehicle.
You have a voice and free will. Make use of it.
You know, I just actually thought that exact same thing before I went to bed last night and now I have to agree.
We were 5 in a car with age between 14-17 year old.
We all had our seat belt.
Canadians are Safe
To be perfectly honest, before I saw Zombieland, I never wore my seatbelt.
Now I ALWAYS do.
Well in multiplayer you can only fly off of motorcycles. Its practically impossible to launch yourself from a car like you can in singleplayer.
In The Ballad of Gay Tony you can be launched from cars in multiplayer.
I agree wholeheartedly OP!
A few years back I worked with my father at his auto shop, doing secretarial things mostly but for a while he was on call by the local police department to tow cars and on some occasions I would ride with him.
Some of the things I saw...
You guys who say you don't wear yours, even if are just going a mile or two up the road and you claim to be an excellent driver, there are always people out there who aren't. It's not something you can predict and no matter what speed your going, if the vehicle that hits you is going fast enough it won't matter.
You need to realize your a just a bit of malleable flesh completely surrounded by unyielding metal.
A seatbelt isn't always going to be enough to save you of course (I remember one car we came to tow had flipped a few times and landed upside down off-road. My dad and the police flipped it back onto it's wheels and I got a clear view of the mans head completely obliterated. Chunks of it were stuck to the roof...).
After seeing the aftermath of a few wrecks personally however it became very obvious that a majority of them wouldn't have been fatal if the passengers had been wearing their belts.
So please buckle up. I've seen quite enough people scraped off the asphalt for one lifetime, thank you.
Why use a rolling projectile to get around places in the first place?
It's one of the things parents tell you to do all the time, and kids love being rebels.
If they're too stupid to wear a seatbelt, they don't deserve to live.
It's one of the things parents tell you to do all the time, and kids love being rebels.
This is why you force them to do the opposite, so they be a rebel and actually do the right thing. Reverse psychology is cool.
Why use a rolling projectile to get around places in the first place?
Because it's faster than walking.
People like to die or receive serious injury in slow speed collision where a seat belt would have made it nothing more than a bruise.
Because they're uncomfortable.
So is flying out the window at 60 miles per hour.
Because those who don't wear seatbelts make interesting stains on the pavement.
I always wear them.

What the fuck are you driving?
I actually feel more comfortable with it on.
Cars do not explode in collisions, EVER.
But they can somehow result in fires. Hopefully no one carries propane or oxygen tanks in the front seats when one does catch on fire :)
On the whole "they can cut you" thing; they can't, unless you put it on twisted
I'm one of those guys that feels uncomfortable when not using the seatbelt, although I do remember that I found it uncomfortable to use when I was a kid. I have my parents to thank for forcing me to use it and to get used to it, every parent should.
Up here it's against the law to drive on a frozen lake with your seatbelts on. They also recommend you leave your windows open.
That makes sense, it's incredibly hard to unbuckle a seatbelt and open the windows under freezing water.
I've heard an excuse from one guy that he doesn't wear his seatbelt because one of his friends died because of it. The force of the crash was so catastrophic that the seatbelt went through his body, causing him to die.
Did that guy think for a moment that maybe if his friend didn't have the seatbelt that he would die anyway?
Seriously, an impact so strong it makes the body slice itself on a seatbelt? How do you survive that with or without a seatbelt? How fast was he going? Did he change his seatbelts for fishing line?
I wear the bottom part of the seatbeat, Not the part that goes across your chest. From experience it caused me severe whiplash
You are aware that the upper part is what saves lifes right? The bottom part is just there to prevent you from sliding under the upper part in a crash.
I always were it, If I don't, I don't fell like I am attached to the car and it bothers me, also I don't want to die.
Cars do not explode in collisions, EVER.
Actually here in denmark we have a show about the people in ambulances, and they were heading out for a car that had driven into a solid metal barrier at 160km/h, which had done a classic james bond explotion and then traveled another mile down the road with flames coming out of all holes, only to crash into another barrier.

There was a hot girl in my car that I drove about 3 km and she didn't wear her seatbelt... but I didn't want her to leave either :saddowns:
I always wear seatbelt no matter how far I'm gonna drive
I usually wear one out of habit. The only times I don't are when I'm too tired and lazy (which is VERY pathetic) or I'm concentrating on something else. But, when I'm driving I fasten my seat belt before turning on the car.
A few years ago, I used to be scared to wear one because about... 11 or so years back, someone was decapitated by a seat belt around here during a massive car pile up.
Here in New Hampshire wearing a seatbelt is not required by law, and we have way less road deaths than the national average.
I do wear my seatbelt though.
Because people naturally hate being told what to do.
If someone says
WEAR A SEATBELT
and they've been wearing it since they were born, they'll instinctively think that they're being treated like a child because someone is looking out for their safety, like when they were children.
