The fire department gave a presentation at my school about what happens if you get into an accident without a seat belt and are seriously injured. That shit does not look fun.
Pictures were pretty graphic too.
Seatbelts help thin the herd.
I kind of get nervous if the car is moving and I don't have it on.
it's pretty dumb not to. i used to not wear them until a friend died in a car accident where a seat belt would have saved him. after things like that you just kind of realize how dangerous driving can be even if you know what you're doing. now i just wear it anyway whenever i drive
My brother died in a car crash a few years ago. It was the seat belt that killed him.
I never start the car until everybody puts their seatbelts on. :colbert:
The roads were covered in snow, visibility was impaired due to the continuing snowfall, and the car has already skidded three times on our trip to watch The Crazies.
And yet, I was the only one out of 5 to be wearing their seatbelt.
I mean, what's so hard about wearing a seatbelt? At least wear it when road conditions are dangerous. I just don't understand, I'd slightly understand if I was in a car with bumbling High School idiots, but these were University students, many of whom I know aren't particularly idiotic. It just takes 2 seconds, 2 seconds, and compare that to the thousands of teenagers in the United States alone that die from car accidents due to not wearing a seatbelt.
You only have one life, why should you risk bleeding out on the side of some road, drowning in your own blood and foam? Are those 2 seconds really worth it? There is absolutely no reason not to wear one.
Which is why, of course, I had to go and ask one of my friends (specifically after he wasn't wearing his seatbelt while I was driving him to get groceries) and, as he said, it's because, "I'm not used to it."
Really? Is that the reason? Are teenagers across the world dying for no reason other then the fact that they aren't used to simply moving a piece of metal and plastic across their chest in one, simple motion?
you counted people wearing seatbelts?
My brother died in a car crash a few years ago. It was the seat belt that killed him.
I guarantee you he would've died without it then.
Sorry for your loss
I am getting tired of all the moral fags around here.
In Australia it's illegal to drive without them.
Crikey.
I don't usually wear seatbelts.
Because my motorcycle does not have one, and if she did, that'd have been stupid. But if I am on a car I wear them, they're pretty useful.

Yes, we all wear seat belts because we think it's immoral not to. :downs:
I've heard an excuse from one guy that he doesn't wear his seatbelt because one of his friends died because of it. The force of the crash was so catastrophic that the seatbelt went through his body, causing him to die.
What was he going at, Mach 12?
cause theyre idiots and cant take those 2 seconds out of their busy schedules
Indeed, But thats their own fault, if anything happens to them, nobody should do anything, then they can get what they wanted since they dont wear their damn seatbelts :D
Because I've always wanted to fly.
I guarantee you he would've died without it then.

The guy driving survived with just broken legs :geno:
Damn, this thread took a harsh turn. I gotta remember to not make it personal.
Anyways, it should definitely be the individual's choice whether or not he wants to wear a seatbelt. I'm tired of all of this nanny-state horseshit.

What if this individual is a parent? What if because of their decision not to wear a seatbelt their kid winds up an orphan. Or if you're like my step-mother, don't make your children buckle up either.
I'm not all for the government controlling us in every way but because of the people who seem to go through life thinking they have no responsibilities whatsoever and the general lack of intelligence a large portion of the population seems to lack...I think sometimes a little extra incentive is needed.
It's the same sad reason some restaurant employees need a "please wash your hands" sign in the bathroom. Eugh.
Here in New Hampshire wearing a seatbelt is not required by law, and we have way less road deaths than the national average.
Yes, and I like that. I will always wear my seatbelt, but I do not like the possibility of a cop pulling me over because I didn't have it on at some small instance of time or because I forgot to.

Sorry, I should have clarified: Adults over the age of 18 should be allowed to choose whether or not to wear a seatbelt. Children should definitely be required to wear a seatbelt.

That's completely different. If an adult decides to not wear a seltbelt, they are only putting themselves at risk. If a restaurant employee does not wash their hands after using the facilities, they are putting everybody that they come in contact with (including any patrons they are serving) at risk.

I was just using that as another example of people (mainly parents) who forget they have responsibilities in life.
It dosen't match my shoes..
Here in Denmark, It's illegal to not wear your seatbelt.
