Everybody smoked in Ghostbusters, but no one did in Ghostbusters 2.
"Derp. I seez peoples smoking! That makes me want to smokes! HURR :downs:"
Sometimes I honestly think this is the image people believe we're being told by simple things like smoking.
Chainsmoking says a lot about a character and sometimes it adds to the movie or how badass they are. People need to just chill the fuck out. Almost all major movie production companies don't allow smoking to be included in any movie rated under R.
Don't forget this classic, assholes.

I don't care, if it fits the character, sure. I mean, a cowboy, yes, a mafia boss, yes, Scarface, yes, A nurse? she is supposed to know everything about being healthy so I wouldn't really fit with the character, but if she did, who cares? It's a choice, and it's theirs, let it be theirs.
James Bond smokes :smug:
Actually they changed that with the Daniel Craig reboot, he no longer smokes.
Fucking Daniel Craig.
Original Post and example thread make me want to cry. I find it laughable that anyone would argue about cigarettes in a film that features people killing other people. Apparently, second hand smoke is worse than murder.
This doesn't need to be debated.

I've never really noticed nor cared, just curious does anyone know if actors use real cigerettes, what with the health implications etc.
I think most actors can live with a couple of cigarettes for the sake of film and art. Unless their role calls for excessive use, in which case they may use fake cigarettes given that the actor absolutely objects to smoking real ones. Or maybe they're just smoking something like shredded bark instead of tobacco. Fuck if I know.
Wow... Just wow. That website is both disturbing & deeply sad.
It's not a goddamn movie's fault; talk with your kids, parents! The whole site is just a silly scape-goat.
They're just trying to distract us from the real menace

You still gotta admit, Bruce looks fuckin' cool with that cigarette :downs:
I know it's not a movie, but every episode of Mad Men. Literally every scene involves a character smoking.
The parents concerned on smokingscene.org need to get a life. They clearly aren't suffering from financial issues or overcoming any important challenges if their biggest threat is an animated cigarette in the Simpsons or Wolverine's secondhand cigar smoke. Any kid that experienced any kind of financial hardship growing up can agree, parents with bigger problems do not need to give a fuck about smoking in movies. The way it should be.
Start posting some characters that smoke.

I think the guy in the X-Files, whose character was a heavy smoker, only held the smoke in his mouth before blowing it out, and never actually inhaled.
I'm probably wrong, though.

In the past they used real cigarettes but now they just smoke some herbal crap (not pot). Supposedly it tastes awful but it lets them shoot a lot of scenes. Just imagine having to smoke a real cigarette for multiple scenes...
That would suck so bad if you weren't a chainsmoker.
Not sure if mentioned or not but

Nuff said.
How could you forget The Comedian?

Oh yeah, and they use real cigarettes/cigars in movies they just don't inhale the smoke. They say that they don't use real tobacco and it's just props, but that's a bunch of bullshit. The producers of Watchmen said they used Dutchmaster Cigars for The Comedian's scenes where he smokes. Even in shows like Breaking Bad/Weeds with scenes where they smoke weed, they have this toned down version of weed that's supposedly legal in California they use for these scenes. As for crystal meth scenes, they just use candy rock, and don't inhale into their lungs. Cause y'know, if you inhale burning sugar, you're going to die.
What about the Chief?

I was thinking more like cigarettes in movies haha.
I smoke, I wasn't influenced by films, Ciggarettes, drinking and swearing simply show more about the charactor.
Also they seemed to make it adamant that the main characters of 'Shutter Island' and 'Daybreakers' had to smoke in every single scene.

Something about Hunter always having a smoke added something to his character for me.
