Something about Hunter always having a smoke added something to his character for me.
What are those cigarette mouthpieces called anyways?
I was thinking more like cigarettes in movies haha.
Hence the "herp derp"
Hence the "herp derp"
Oh alright.
Fuck all the stupid associations yelling at movies because people smoke in it... seriously, even if people in movies look badass and can force people to smoke just to have the same badass attitute, forbidding it won't change a fuckin' thing since they are already a shitload of movies like this, and because they are so many ways to be induced in smoking anyway...
There's a french woman, whose name's always out of my mind, who yells at this EVERY FUCKIN' TIME a movie's released in teathers. What's the point, seriously ? She even tried to make Avatar disappear from teathers because Sigourney Weaver's smoking ONE cigarette in it... and I ain't even talkin' about a film which is actually about a french singer who just spent his whole life smoking...
And, as already said, it's not a problem if there's rape, murder, boobage or stuff like this, as long as a cigarette isn't shown on screen... And, it's not even like a cigarette manufacturer name is clearly shown or something, cigarettes are always generic stuff you can't recognize. It's basically just a stupid barking from people who can't bear something in a movie which actually just participate of a character's appearance and personality (just take away Keanu Reaves' cigarettes in Constantine, you lost half of the movie's interest).
Anyway, regardless of this shitty problem, cigarettes have always been used to make people look badass. It's a stupid human reaction to find someone badass or cool just because he's smokin' some shit, but it's probably due to the fact cigarette is highly dangerous for every human being on this earth, then a character who smoke is a character who don't give a fuck about cancer and shit, and then is badass, because he ain't afraid of death.
Oh, glorious human mind.

For some reasons I laughed hard when the french redneck is getting a small pipe, then HE takes his fuckin' huge wooden pipe from nowhere...

So smoking makes anyone a badass?
I'm talkin' about movies here, everytime you see a character smoking you can be almost sure it's to make him look badass.

You can be damn sure that these were real cigarettes. Depp loves smoking. He smoked constantly throughout this movie.

Yes but people who smoke IRL don't become badass instantly.
Sadly, no.
Leonardo DiCaprio is the fucking man anyways.

Bruce Willis. now there's a man.

Well if he's a fag, I'm jealous. Apparently fags can bag any girl they want, make millions of dollars, and party all the time. Where do I sign up.
How could you forget The Comedian?

Oh yeah, and they use real cigarettes/cigars in movies they just don't inhale the smoke. They say that they don't use real tobacco and it's just props, but that's a bunch of bullshit. The producers of Watchmen said they used Dutchmaster Cigars for The Comedian's scenes where he smokes. Even in shows like Breaking Bad/Weeds with scenes where they smoke weed, they have this toned down version of weed that's supposedly legal in California they use for these scenes. As for crystal meth scenes, they just use candy rock, and don't inhale into their lungs. Cause y'know, if you inhale burning sugar, you're going to die.
Wow... That's amazing...
Inhaling burning sugar kills you?
Wow... That's amazing...

I highly doubt Hollywood would risk killing they're lead in anyway. If there was even the slightest chance inhaling the prop would kill you, they wouldn't allow it. I'm calling bullshit.
Oh yeah, and Uma Thurman as Mia Wallace:

The smoking definitely added something to her character

Shaun of the Dead. Shaun does promise to quit smoking, but he keeps doing it anyway or something.

Granted, that's not Shaun, it's Ed, but I thought he looked much cooler like that.

She's smoking like one cigarette in the whole film, and it's just a neutral shit, there isn't any badassery behind it.
Making a problem out of nothing.
Westerns, WWII films.
America has had a freak out about people smoking in films. Personally, if one wants to light one up and get a cancer, fine by me.
In Casino, nobody is ever not smoking. Seriously, every single character in every Scorsese movie chain smokes non-stop. And I'm pretty sure Hunter S. Thompson has a cigarette in his mouth for every single minute of screen time he has in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
I need a smoke now >.>
I really don't care if people in my movies are smoking or not. It's a characteristic used to make actors look as if they "don't give a shit". IMO it works quite well.
I need to start watching Mad Men.
