hell, the manga has different interpretations in various countries. In the Lithuanian translated Dragon Ball manga it says "take a peak" "Why would i look at your stupid butt"

I just started from episode 1 with the GF because she'd never seen it.
Christ it's a different show, in every way, voice direction, tone/frequency of humor, style of animation, Smithers was black for an episode, everything.

Well it's not like Toriyama hasn't done those kinds of jokes before. Like for example, in the 12th chapter of the manga Dr. Slump (the manga that Toriyama did before Dragon Ball), which is when the character Gatchan (the thing that's in my avatar) was first named, this happens:
